EASTER SUNDAY THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

APRIL 8, 2012 VOL. LXIII NO. 15

From the Pastor’s Desk

Each year the celebration of Easter affords us the opportunity to reflect on the wonderful truth of our faith, namely that Jesus died for us and was raised from the dead so that you and I might have eternal life. The Good News of Easter, however, is not restricted only to eternal life. The hope of Easter touches our lives every single day. The new life of the Lord Jesus is infused into us at our baptism and we can rejoice in the power of that new risen life every sin-gle day. When we are challenged and it feels like the challenge is beyond our strength to face, it is the resurrection of Jesus, and our share in it, that gives us the courage to go forward. When we have reason to rejoice and be happy, that happiness and joy is a share in the joy of the resurrection of Jesus. In these days that are challenging in so many ways, the resurrection speaks to us of hope, courage and the ability to persevere. Our faith community of St. Pius X celebrates this great feast of Easter in a spirit of gratitude for the people who call this parish their spiritual home, and for the blessings that our good and gra-cious God has showered upon us. We are thankful for the op-portunity to be for others what Jesus, in his resurrection, is for us: a source of hope and courage. Fr. Butler, Fr. Walsh and I pray that this Easter is a special time of joy for each of you. May the “Alleluia” of this Easter Day resound in your heart throughout the entire year. Fr. Farano

The 2012 Bishop’s Appeal will be held on the weekend of April 21/22. This is our opportunity to unite together as one Catholic family, to answer the challenge given to us by Jesus Christ to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, comfort the afflicted, and to promote justice for every person. In these next two weeks, please take the time to prayerfully reflect on the gifts that you have been given by God and respond to the Bishop’s Appeal as generously as you possi-bly can. Your participation is essential to the success of the Bishop’s Appeal. Please join other Catholics from through-out the fourteen counties of the diocese in supporting this very import collection.

The Diocesan Service Committee is hosting a Day of Healing and Renewal on Saturday, April 21 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd., Clifton Park, NY. Maria Vadia, Catholic Lay Evangelist with a world renowned ministry in healing, will speak on Jesus Heals Today! Maria is with the Glory of God Ministries. Born in Havana, Cuba, Maria was 10 years old when she and her family fled to Miami, FL, to escape the communist regime in her native country. Later married to a wealthy man, she was gripped by materialism; yet in the midst of everything the world could offer, she knew that something was missing. Maria had an experience of the Risen Lord in 1987 and consecrated her life to the Lord Jesus Christ and to healing the sick and preaching the Gospel. Her healing ministry has taken her all over Amer-ica, the Caribbean, Africa, India, Poland and other countries bringing a message of faith, salvation and healing. As founder of “The Glory of God Foundation”, Maria is com-mitted to making Jesus known to the nations by the preach-ing of the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. She has authored 3 books; “There is Power in Your Tongue”, “Pressing On in the Spirit” and “An Arrow in His Hand”. Maria is the mother of 4 boys. Pre-registration $20 until April 14 or $25 at the door. Make your check payable to DSC, PO Box 38, Clifton Park, NY 12065-1018. There is no charge for clergy or if this is your first DSC event. For your Safety and Protection

Please remember to lock your car doors before coming into Church. Most unfortunately, even with locked cars, there have been some incidents in the parking lot during Masses. Anything such as GPS systems, cell phones, i-pads, your E-Z Pass and your garage door openers should not be visible in your cars, not to mention other valuables such as wallets, purses and handbags. Thank you for your ongoing attention to this.

PASTORAL CARE “On entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe, and they were utterly amazed. He said to them, “Do not be amazed”. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here.” + The gospels for Easter proclaim the “good news” of Jesus’ Resurrection. For His followers, what seems like a tomb for the dead is a doorway into a new life for all. Expecting to find their beloved friend dead, the women and the disciples are invited to see beyond the circumstances of the past few days. Concerned about Jesus’ death, an angel directs them to embrace new ways of seeing and touching Jesus. Initially responding with bewilderment and confu-sion, they are invited to know Jesus in spirit. His appear-ances bring a glorious new reality to their world. His Love brings Hope. His Life brings Joy. And as His Peace envel-ops them they know and recognize Him in an astounding way. No wonder the church calls us to celebrate for 50 days! He has Risen indeed! He is always with us!

Looking for Easter Joy? Celebrate Life!

Rejoice all 50 days of Easter!

Family Perspectives by Bud Ozar: That first Easter morning was confusing. Jesus was missing and Mary Magdalene, Peter and John “did not know” what to do. In family life there are confusing moments when “we don’t know” what to do. Like the apostles we are Easter people when we believe and trust in each other even when all seems lost. ***************************************************

We respectfully remind everyone to observe the No parking areas on the parish grounds. These areas provide for everyone’s safety, and in case of emer-gency they provide access for emergency vehicles. April Food Collection ~ Next Weekend April 14/15

Warmer days are coming, but the need for hot, hearty comfort foods is still urgent. Next weekend is the monthly food collection. Suggestions are ravioli, stew, hash, chili, spaghet-tios, rice, pasta, sauce, canned hams, instant potatoes, sweet potatoes, baked beans, canned veggies and fruits. Also needed hearty soups, hot and cold cereals, macaroni and

cheese, hamburger and tuna helper meals, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, mayo, juice, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, creamer, personal care items and paper products. Again, thank for your continued generosity. *************************************************** TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION: It has been said that the most convincing sign of the Risen Christ is the Risen Christian. Today, in parishes around the world, new life is drawn from the waters of baptism, and new Christians are thrilled to see the crowds pour in to join in the feast. On Easter, we do not say the Creed, but rather renew our baptismal promises with hearty responses. We are taking the first joyful steps on a fifty-day-long celebration. In the southern hemisphere, the world is slipping into winter, but for us in North America, the earth itself seems to sing hymns to Christ’s victory. Look this morning for the fresh paschal candle standing near the baptismal waters. Consecrated in the hours of the night, it will burn brightly for fifty days whenever we gather for prayer, and will glow again at every baptism and every funeral in the year ahead. Even though we may be gathered around the candle some days in sadness, today’s joy at Christ’s victory over death will shine through.
