President’s Message

I know it's time for another newsletter article because we are expect-

ing another snow storm in Rhode Island. It seems to happen every

time I sit down to communicate my message.

The AGA Boston Chapter has a great learning opportunity this month with our

blockbuster full day of training at Bentley University on March 14. Great

speakers and learning opportunities. As we all know training is more than accu-

mulating CPE credit. It is developing both technical and personal skills that

will help you to excel in your career. When you add the ability to associate

with a wonderful group of colleagues, you certainly know that you are part of a

great organization.

We will be making a donation this year to the Wounded Warriors fund in lieu

of presenting speaker gifts. This is a great opportunity for all of us to recognize

the many sacrifices that our military and their families make in order for all of

us to enjoy our freedom. Please find the time this month and every month to

reach out to your fellow military veteran workers and their families and thank

them for their service to our country. Our chapter is pleased to offer two (2)

$1,000 scholarships for 2013. Please visit our website and fill out an applica-

tion.

If you haven't heard the good news yet please keep in mind that the National

AGA Professional Development Conference will be held in Boston in 2017.

I'm sure Paul Revere meant to say "The AGA is coming, the AGA is coming".

In closing please consider our mission "The AGA Boston Chapter serves pro-

fessionals in the government financial management community by providing

quality education, fostering professional development, and participating in lo-

cal community projects for the enhancement of everyone in the New England

area"`. How are we doing? Please send me an email to give me your input.

We always want to add value to our members. my email is ealmon-

bers of our great organization.

I wish you all the very best.

Community Service Notes

The Community Service Committee is again collecting donations at the March 14, 2013 Regional

Professional Development Conference at Bentley University. Donation boxes for used eyeglass-

es, non-perishable food items, gently used business attire, pet food and supplies, and various

art and craft supplies will be located near the registration desk.

These donations will be used to benefit various agencies and individuals in our area. The Lions

Club will get the eyeglasses, St. John’s Food for the Poor Program

(www.stjohnsfoodforthepoor.org) will receive the food items for their food pantry, the Career

Closet of Interfaith Social Services (www.InterfaithSocialServices.org) in Quincy will get the

gently used Business attire, Pets in Need (www.petsinneedanimalrescue.org.) will receive the pet

supplies and the Autism Alliance of Metro West (www.autismalliance.org) will receive the craft

supplies. Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Non Perishable Food Donations:

As a result of responses to the recent Community Service Survey, we are asking

for donations of non perishable food items. These donations will go to the food

pantry operated by St. John’s Food for the Poor Program in Worcester. This

program motto is “No man, woman, or child should ever be hungry.” This pro-

gram operates both a soup kitchen and food pantry. Information about their

programs can be found on their website http://www.stjohnsfoodforthepoor.org/

Clothing Donations:

This year the committee is again collecting gently used Business Attire. Dona-

tions should be clean, pressed and ready to wear. Some appropriate items include:

skirts, dresses, blouses, pantsuits, men’s suits, dress shirts, slacks, ties, shoes,

etc. They will then be given to the Career Closet of Interfaith Social Services in

Quincy. Please check out their website at http://www.interfaithsocialservices.org/

network/career-closet .

Community Service Notes Continued

Pet Supplies:

Pets In Need is a small adoption program run privately by volunteers who have joined

together to save unwanted and abandoned cats and dogs. They are strictly no-kill and the

organization’s main goal is to take in the animals from other rescues and shelters that

would otherwise be euthanized as a result of behavior problems, overpopulated shelters, or

financial burden. All donations and adoption fees go directly to the animals; Pets In Need

is officially 501c3.

Beginning in 1997 and thanks to the wonderful group of supporters that seem to multiply each year, Pets In

Need has grown to help more and more animals. Although the rescue program does not have a shelter facility

(due to lack of funds), volunteers who foster the rescued cats and dogs are based in Dracut, Chelmsford, and

Donations are gratefully accepted on behalf of the cats and dogs in foster care. Here are some items from

their “wish list”:

Cat Food – When considering the nutritional needs of the cats in foster care, Friskies canned food

and Purina One dry adult cat food are preferred.

Cat Treats – The cats love any kind of treat!

Clumping Cat Litter

Dog Food – When considering the nutritional needs of the dogs in foster care, Purina and Beneful

are preferred.

Somerville, MA and Nashua, Pelham, and Amherst, NH.

Pets In Need web address is www.petsinneedanimalrescue.org.

Craft Supply Donations to Benefit Autistic Children:

Autism Alliance of Metro West has a wish list for

items which will be used by children to learn through

arts and crafts.

Markers, Construction Paper, Glue Sticks, Stickers,

Folders, Paints, Popsicle Sticks, Beads and Juice Boxes

For more information about the alliance visit http://www.autismalliance.org/index.htm.
