    The Meaning of Civilisation(Hadhara)

    Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem

    Acivilisation (hadhara) is a collection of concepts about life.Civilisation could be a spiritual divine one (deeniyya ilahiyya) orman-made (wadh'iyya bashariyya). The spiritual divine civilisation

    emanates from a doctrine (aqeedah); like the Islamic civilisation that

    emanates from the Islamic aqeedah. As for the man-made civilisation,either it emanates from a doctrine like the Capitalist Western civilisationthat is a collection of concepts about life emanating from the doctrineof separating religion from life. Or it does not emanate from a doctrinelike the Shinto, Greek, Babylonian and Assyrian civilisations. Thiscivilisation is a collection of concepts that a people or a group ofpeoples agreed upon so it is a national (sh'abiyya) or man-madecivilisation.

    In addition, a people or peoples could have a religion (deen) and adoctrine whatsoever, but this religion has no concepts about life likeChristianity and Buddhism. So people agree on concepts about lifespecific to them, where these concepts form their civilisation withoutthis having any relationship with their religion, because it does notemanate from it. So their civilisation is not divine despite the fact thatthey have a religion. Hence, it is possible for various peoples to associatein one civilisation, despite the difference of their religions like the

    Japanese, Hindus and Sikhs and French; their religions are different buttheir civilisation is one, namely Capitalism.

    And:

    "Thosewho disbelieveof thePeopleof theBook and polytheists do not likethatthereshould descend upon you any good fromyour Lord. But Allah chooses for Hismercy whoever Hewills. And Allah is theOwner of great bounty" [TMQ Al-Baqarah: 105].And:

    "O Peopleof theBook, why do you disbelievein theaayaat of Allah whileyoubear witness?" [TMQ Al-Imran:70].And:

    "And becauseof their disbelief and utteringa gravefalsehood (buhtan) againstMary" [TMQ An-Nisa: 156].

    And:

    "Surely they disbelievewho say: 'Allah is thethird of three'" [TMQ Al-Maidah: 76].And:

    there will come those who say that Christians and Jews are Muslims,andwe hear those who say that the followers of the three religions arebelievers even though the Qur'anic texts, definitely proved and of

    definite meaning, are decisive in charging Jews and Christians withdisbelief (kufr) such as His saying:

    "Verily thosewho disbelievein Allah and His Messenger and wish to distinguishbetween Allah and His Messenger and say: 'Webelievein someand disbelieveinothers' and wish to adopt a way in between. Thosearein truth disbelievers, and Wehaveprepared for thedisbelievers a humiliatingpunishment" [TMQ An-Nisa:150-1].

    And:

    "Thosewho disbelieveamongthePeopleof theBook and thepolytheists werenotgoingto leave(their disbelief) until therecameto themclear evidence. A Messenger

    fromAllah recitingpurepages" [TMQ Al-Baiyinah:1-2].

    And:

    "Say: O Peopleof theBook, why do you disbelievein theaayaat of Allah whileAllah is witness over what you aredoing?" [TMQ Al-Imran:98].

    And:

    "And when it was said to them: 'Believein what Allah revealed', they said: 'Webelievein what was revealed to us' and they disbelievein what is after it whileit isthetruth confirmingthat which is with them. Say: 'Why then did you kill the

    Prophets of Allah aforetimeif you were(indeed) believers?'" [TMQ Al-Baqarah:

    91].And:

    "And they say: 'Noneshall enter Paradiseexcept hebea Jewor Christian.' Thosearetheir desires. Say: 'Produceyour proof if you aretruthful.' Rather whoeversubmits his faceto Allah and is a doer of good, his reward is with Allah. Such willnot fear nor will they grieve" [TMQ Al-Baqarah:111-112].And:

    "And they say: 'Allah has begotten a child.' Glory beto Him! Nay, to Himbelongs all that is in theheavens and theearth. All surrender to Himwith obedience"[TMQ Al-Baqarah: 116].

    mentions the thoughts and statements of kufr, it always follows themwith what is the truth, thus refuting them. Examples of this are:

    "They say: 'Ar-Rahmaan has begotten a child.' Indeed you havebrought forth aterribleevil thing! Whereby theheavens arealmost torn down, theearth split asunderand themountains fall in ruin. That they ascribea child to Ar-Rahmaan. And it

    is not suitablefor Ar-Rahmaan to beget a child" [TMQ Maryam:88-92].And:

    "And they say: 'When will this promise(cometo pass), if you aretruthful?' Ifonly thosewho disbelieved knewwhen they will not beableto ward off theFire

    fromtheir faces nor their backs. Nor will they behelped. Nay, it will comeupon themsuddenly and perplex them. And they will haveno power to avert it nor will they getrespite" [TMQ Al-Anbiya: 38-40].And:

    "And when you said: 'O Musa, weshall never believein you until weseeAllahplainly.' And you wereseized with a thunder bolt whileyou werelooking" [TMQ

    Al-Baqarah: 55].

    And:

    "Thosewho said: 'Verily Allah has taken our promisenot to believein anyMessenger unless hebrings to us an offeringwhich firedevours.' Say: 'Therecametoyou Messengers beforemewith clear proofs and with what you speak of. Why thendid you kill themif you aretruthful?'" [TMQ Al-Imran:183].

    And:

    "And theJews say: 'Allah's hand is tied up!' Betheir hands tied up and bethey

    accursed for what they say! Nay, both His hands arewidely outstretched. Hespendsas Hewishes" [TMQ Al-Maidah:64].And:

    "Thosewho associate(with Allah) will say: 'If Allah had willed, wewould nothaveassociated nor would wehaveforbidden anything.' Likewisebelied thosebeforethemuntil they tasted Our wrath. Say: 'Haveyou any knowledgeso that you produceit for us? Verily you follownothingbut conjecture(dhann) and you do nothingbutlie" [TMQ Al-Anam: 148].

    And:

    "And they say: 'BeJews or Christians (then) you will beguided.' Say: 'Nay, thecreed of Ibrahim, and hewas not of thepolytheists'" [TMQ Al-Baqarah: 135].And:

    "Haveyou not considered about hewho disputed with Ibrahimabout his LordbecauseAllah had given himthekingdom? When Ibrahimsaid to him: 'My Lord

    is Hewho gives lifeand causes death.' Hesaid: 'I givelifeand causedeath.' Ibrahimsaid: 'Verily Allah causes thesun to risein theeast thus you causeit to risein thewest.' Thus thedisbeliever was utterly defeated. And Allah guides not theunjust

    folk" [TMQ Al-Baqarah:258].Even though thisayahwas of theShar'aofthose before us,however it commenced with His saying subhanahu:

    "Thosewho said about their brothers whilethey sat (at home): 'Had they obeyedus, they would not havebeen killed.' Say: 'Avert death fromyourselves if you speakthetruth!'" [TMQ Al-Imran:168].

    against them and conquered these lands. After that, is there room forsaying thatJihadis only defensive war and that there is no offensive warin Islam?

    Conclusion

    In brief, the clash of civilisations is an inevitable matter. It existed inthe past, exists now and will remain until the clash ends shortly beforethe Hour, since it does not come except upon the worst of creation. Donot be deceived, O Muslims, by the callers to the dialogue who placetheir heads in the sand and condone humiliation and defeat. Make thepreparations required for the conflict, since the Capitalist Western

    civilisation has knocked you down militarily, politically and economically;however they will never defeat you intellectually. Your aqeedahis hard todefeat; and it remains alive in the souls, except that some concepts of

    your civilisation coming out from youraqeedahhave been afflicted withsome contamination and some dust has struck them.So work to purifythem and shake the dust away from it by returning to the Book andSunnah. Beware of accepting a saying without evidence, or accepting asaying with evidence from a non-mujtahid or from the one reportingfrom him. This is the period of ignorant leaders, who give fatawawithout knowledge. So beware of them, and search for sincere activescholars, and take your deen from them, for they are the lamps in thedarkness, and they are few today. And know, that the ultimate triumphand victory is for Islam and Muslims. This is what Allah and HisMessenger promised us in definite reports (akhbar qat'iyya), so beconfident in the good promise of Allah.Work to appoint yourKhaleefah,and establish your community (jamaah) over one man from among youso as he makes the preparations,unifies theUmmah, terrifies the enemy,

    protects the territories, deals with the citizens justly,distributes equally,and Allah makes at his hands this deendominant over all other deens,even if the polytheists detest it.

    O Allah, guide theUmmahof Muhammad to that which pleases Youand make it deserve Your support. O Most Merciful, we are weak at

    Your door, appealing for Your help and seeking Your protection,dedicated in utter submission to You, desperate for Your help. Support

    Yourdeen, verify Your promise, and bring down Your Victory. For Youis the praise in every situation.
