This is a part-time degree programme offered locally by Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) in collaboration with HKU SPACE. It offers students an opportunity to study different social science disciplines such as psychology, sociology, cultural geography and politics, which enable them to develop a detailed understanding of, and the research skills to investigate, the social world, relationships within it and the social forces that act on us all. This knowledge and specialist skills will be particularly useful to employers across all sectors.

Applicants shall:1. hold an Associate Degree/ a Higher Diploma/ an Advanced Diploma in Social Sciences/

Applied Social Sciences such as General Social Sciences, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Youth or Social Services, etc. with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0; AND

2. demonstrate English proficiency by having a minimum overall score of 6.0 on the IELTS or 550 on the TOEFL.

Graduates of HKU SPACE Associate Degree/ Higher Diploma/ Advanced Diploma, or graduates from a recognised institution where the normal medium of instruction is English, are normally regarded as having demonstrated the required English proficiency if they have obtained grade “C” or higher in the English course(s) of their respective Associate Degree/ Higher Diploma/ Advanced Diploma programmes.Applicants need to have successfully studied prerequisite modules in their former studies (introduction to psychology, introduction to sociology and research methods, or equivalent).

This programme enables participants to study part of the wide range of modules available in the Advanced Diploma in Applied Social Sciences programme.

It is designed for learners with a broad interest in areas of the social sciences, such as Counselling, Psychology and Criminal Justice.

It is a flexible programme for those who wish to study at their own pace. Participants may choose any of the modules listed below and enrol for a maximum of two modules per semester. Students are assessed by written assignments and examinations as prescribed in the advanced diploma programme. Upon successful completion of each module, participants will earn a Certificate of Achievement. An accumulation of the required number of credits will lead to a certificate or diploma award in Social Sciences. Credits accumulated are fully transferable to the Advanced Diploma in Applied Social Sciences programme, should the participant wish to take a study programme in one of the specific fields offered.

Applicants shall:(a) have gained in the HKDSE Examination Level 2 in 5 subjects, and have 3 years of work

experience; or(b) have gained in the HKCEE Grade E in 3 subjects and Level 2 in Chinese Language and

English Language; and have 3 years of work experience; or(c) have gained in the HKALE Grade E in 1 AL subject or 2 AS subjects; or(d) be aged at least 25 years and with 3 years of work experience.
