January 24, 2013. The University Student Council launched the Alternative Class Learning Experience (ACLE) season two , the theme being YOUTH Speak! In line with this, CSA hosted its ACLE enti-tled What Great Wall? which aims to break the misconceptions and superstitions about Chinoy and Filipino relationships. In order to meet the objec-tives of this event, the organization invited two Fili-pino-Chinese professionals to share their valuable knowledge and experiences to the participants. This event was held at Educ Bldg 312, hosted by Ms. Car-la Cucueco. The first speaker was Ms. Maribel Kawsek, a gradu-ate of Immaculate Conception Academy. She works as a writer under the pen name Xin-Mei, and she is currently part of the UP National Writers Work-shop. One of her famous works is Afraid to be Chi-nese, a book on the life of a Tsinay in the Philip-pines.

During her presentation, she emphasized on the role of Asian traditional values in shaping the rela-tionships of many Chinoys including, but not limited to, family and school. In addition to that, she also shared her life experience under the supervision of conservative Chinese parents, and gave advices to those who share the same experience. The second speaker was Mr. Stanley Chi, according his own twitter account he is "Mr. Suplado, Pogi Points Professor and Love Guru.He is a comedian, cartoonist and book writer. He is the author of the popular humor book "Pogi Points: The Not-So-Gentleman's Guide to Looking Good" and the best-selling Suplado Tips series. He also used to be one of the hosts of TV5's "Front Act". During his presen-tation, he gave a clear picture of what a Filipino-Chinese is, he explains which things are true and which things are not necessarily true about Chinoys. Many true to life scenarios were also brought up including Mr. Chis experience inside and outside his work field. It was a humorous and relatable discus-sion. Finally, Stanley Chi wrapped up this sems ACLE with some lines from his stand up comedy, everyone was very entertained with laughter.

Everybody had a great afternoon listening to differ-ent stories, relatable experiences, advices, jokes etc. instead of taking care of their stressful UP aca-demics. It looks like the participants of this sems ACLE had an overall fun and insightful experience. A job well done, thanks to the team effort CSAs Re-search and Academics Committee. Now, the pres-sures on for the team to make next school years ACLE even better. Til next time!

    CSA Exhibit

    By: Pam Toh

What? Exhibit nanaman? Oi grabe pinaghirapan ng CSA yan this year ah.

Yes! This year UPCSA reached a new level of awesomeness by making an exhibit to beat all other exhibits! As we all know, next year is CSAs 50th anniversary. Since December of last year, Culsoc, along with members and and alumni of CSA, was working hard to put together the Culweek exhibit. Our hands were caked with PVA glue and tissue paper at the end of every prod work, but we were glad to do our part.

Nearly every Culweek, UPCSA decides to create an exhibit to expose the UP community to different parts of Chinese culture. Previously, weve had exhibits about traditional Chinese clothing, and Chinese ink painting, among other things. This year, to mark the beginning of UPCSAs resolve to become a well-established organi-zation within UP and also to prepare for our 50th anniversary celebration next year, we planned to have a big-ger and better CulWeek this year. What better way to begin our yearly exhibit than with one of the most im-portant themes of the Chinese New Yearthe 12 Zodiac animals.

After more than a month, and with the combined effort of several committees, we made 12 animals and a landscape diorama out of paper mache and paint, and did research and design for content, specifically the history of the practice, each animals traits and yearly forecast, and other additional information about the zodiac cycle. We even managed to reserve the AS Lobby for the whole week as our venue to maximize audi-ence impact and exposure. Of course its a different feeling when you walk into Palma Hall the first thing in the morning and seeBAM! Right smack in the middle of the lobby are five huge red lettersUPCSA. It gives you an odd sense of pride to know youre part of the org that made the exhibit everybodys been looking at all

The Externals Committee helped the weeks events gain even more public notice by stringing more than a hundred Chinese lanterns and hanging large tarpaulin banners with Chinese New Year greetings in both English and Chinese between lampposts along the oval near Palma Hall. This really added to the celebratory atmosphere in the campus and made the street in front of Palma look like Chinatownand thats some-thing you dont see every day. The exhibit officially opened at the Palma Hall 1st Floor Lobby on Tuesday last February 12. To show their support, all our members wore red that day. At around 11 am, the camera crew from Chinoy TV, our official media partner, arrived along with our organizations members, officers, advisers, alumni, and supporters. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to offi-cially open the UPCSA CulWeek, with Dean Michael Tan, Prof. Wendell Capili, and Prof. Angela Yu as the guests of honor. Also present were Andrew Yap, Jeremy Kho, and Jeremy Pow--CSAs president, Culsoc chairperson, and Externals chairper-son, respectively. After the ceremony, several studentsboth CSA and non-CSA immediately came to look at the exhibit, expressing their interest in the cute animals and the info that accompanied them.

But perhaps what gave the exhibit the zing it needed to stay interesting was that it wasnt just decorative or informative, but also interactive! Everyday new wishes kept popping up on the Chinese Wishing Treeswhich some of members may remember are the trees we used at last years CSA Ball. It is a New Year tradition for people to write wishes for the year on red pieces of paper or red envelopes and attach them to tree branches. We offered this to visitors for free. By the end of the week, the trees were smothered in red, with wishes rang-ing from the establishment of a communist regime, to having a rich Chinese girlfriend. During this time, a hidden talent also appeared in CSA! Our very own Daniel Spud Ratilla, brandishing his weapons of ink and mopit brush, showed everyone at the Chinese Calligraphy booth what real calligraphy is all about. We tried (really, we did) to give visitors their own Chinese names, immortalizing these with ink on rice paper. A lot of visitorseven wanted to experience it themselves, and tried their hand at calligraphy. A group of Japanese girls even came and provided our booth with some very lovely samples of their own. And finallyyoull be surprised by this! We were pleased to find out that in one of the Kasaysayan 2 classes, a group of students who were assigned to make a report about China were given some homework to write a re-view about our exhibit! Can you believe teachers are making us homework now? To prove to you even further the impact CSA had on the University, in the recent CSSP week celebrations, Spud invited his aunt and her friends to demonstrate Chinese ink painting in the AS Lobby. Culweek was definitely a big hitweve already got a bunch of people asking whether CSA is open for applications next semester. Our efforts were definitely effective in sharing the Chinese culture with the UP community and reaching the goals we set for CSA.

The Cultural Week was a week-long event held by the UP Chinese Student Association during the second week of February to commemorate the Chinese New Year. There was an exhibit in the AS Lobby which fea-tured the cute and well-made handicrafts of the zodiac animals. People were also given chances to know more about calligraphy, write wishes on the wishing trees, while some even got their Chinese names. To add to the festivities, lanterns were displayed along the Academic Oval, just outside Palma Hall.

On the first day, everyone in CSA wore red and gathered at the AS lobby for the ribbon cutting ceremony with ChinoyTV. Yes, we were featured on TV! Afterwards was the Chibugan Eating Contest. There were four rounds, where half of the remaining teams were eliminated after each round. With the participants participating in pairs, each person was served two pieces of siomai with one cup of rice on the first round, two pieces of shanghai rolls with one cup of noodles on the second round, and one siopao on the third round. On the fourth round, the remaining pairs had to eat one whole tikoy together. On the second day, everyone wore zodiac shirts. There was also the grand pakain, which featured various Chinese delicacies. Everyone wore white on the last day, which had the highlight of Culweek, the lion dance and wushu exhibi-tion. A lot of people gathered at the AS steps to witness the spectacle. It was exciting and a sight to behold, especially when the lion moved to the beat of the drums and when it went to get the angpao. It was then capped off with the CSA org picture.

Culweek was really a blast! A lot of people were truly in awe of the Culweek, especially the wonderful ex-hibit. Congratulations to CulSoc and to everyone! UPCSA wouldnt have pulled off such an amazing and suc-cessful event if it were not for everyones united efforts. It was really overwhelming to see all our hard work pay off! The Culweek is really something all of us should be very proud of!

    CSA Culminight 2013:

    Underneath the Moonlight

    By: Chelsea Ngie

After all the planning and preparing for events, the academic year is finally coming to a close and CSA celebrated the successful year down at the Rustica Restaurant, Quezon City last March 9, 2013. The members were asked to dress up for the culminating dinner and surely everyone came in their best semi-formal attire. The evening was made extra special with performances from some CSA members!

The CSA Culminight video was shown while the members had dinner and the Vanity Video: UP CSA is Brighter than the Sun also premiered. After din-ner, it was time for the CSA Dance Troupes perfor-mance! And of course, no dance performance would be complete without a Harlem Shake which closed theirs. To extend the fun, hosts Chris Ng and Carla Cucueco then took over and had a couples game. The participants were Matt So and Gail, An-drew and Julienne, MM and Pattrick, and Janine and Bernell. MM and Pattrick took home Starbucks gift checks after proving to be the most in-sync pair of them all. Of course, we wouldnt let the night pass without a special duet number by MM and Pattrick who sang Someday Well Know.

The program started off with the welcoming re-marks given by Andrew Yap and Shiela Tan. Then, hosts RC Lupena and Lance Wee took over. They started with an ice breaker wherein three pairs par-ticipated. One of the two had small sheets of paper with the answers to the questions taped to various parts of his/her body while the other would have to use his/her mouth to get the paper with the correct answer. Sarah and Pow took over the competition and won themselves an Uncle Cheffys gift check each!

Kudos, graduates of 2013! Next up was the funniest and the most awaited part of the evening, the Execomm Turnover Rites. But before any of that, each committee made a tribute to its respective chairperson. But seriously, we saw how loved the incumbent executive committee chairs are by the members. From the sabaw videos to the personal letters, the members really did their best to thank and commend their committee heads. A job well done to all the exiting committee chairs: Andrew, Sheila, Gail, Erica, Char, Jer, Pow, and Bets! And congratulations to the incoming executive committee: Char, Elroy, Aleeza, Janine, Sarah, Pam, Layla, and Bets. Finally, after a week of hiding and running around poking people with popsicle sticks, a whole semester of finishing the bucket list tasks, and the TBX, the Intercomm winners have been revealed! Sec places third, Acads garners first runner-up, and the winning committee is no other than CulSoc! The year passed so quickly but with the fiftieth coming up, Im sure were all in for a grander and more awe-some year ahead! Congratulations and thank you, CSA!

    Road Painting

    By: Sarah Lim

The next question to be answered was- what do we paint? Maggie Lee Chuy, a student of Fine Arts, was the one who conceptualized the whole design. Since the whole theme was Chinese New Year, she drew a huge blue snake with sharp fangs with the logo of CSA which was located at the snakes body. The painting was done last February 12, led by Mag-gie and Spud, who drew the pattern to be painted. The whole painting process lasted for 5 hours with the help of members from different committees, who joined together to make this come to life. Eve-

Who would have thought that a simple question of how to publicize Chinese New Year in UP Diliman would result in a great idea? Steven Chua threw out the box ideas like painting the grass in Sunken Garden! Sino ba ever nakagawa ng ganun? Pag tayo nauna, super mapupub tayo!, he said, enthusiastically recalling the plan-ning stage. But then he realized that some people might be off with that idea so he thought of something else again. Another idea came in as he was looking at the floor of the tambayan. He wondered, maybe this whole painting thing would be okay if it would be there. However the goal to publicize the Chinese New Year would be met if it were only limited to the tambayan; thus, the idea of doing it on AS-CAL was born. ryone was dedicated that one member even used his gloves just so he could paint! Everyone was really giddy for the final look; and at the end of the day- literally, it was finished. Students from UP Diliman were surprised as a fierce water snake welcomed them along AS-CAL. It was anoth-er first for the organization which goes hand in hand with the lanterns hanged in front of Palma Hall. CSA members could not be more proud! Happy Year of the Sssssssnake!

    ASPIRE

    By: Sarah Lim

Last February 25, the 2nd AFICS Business Convention took place in Leong Hall at the Ateneo De Manila Uni-versity. De La Salle Universitys Englicom organized this years convention, entitled ASPIRE, where audiences could expect big names in business to inspire the next generation of leaders with their testimonies. The registration started as early as 8:00am; and the participants were welcomed by La Sallian students in white corporate attire. The program started at roughly 10:30am with an opening prayer, followed by the na-tional anthem and the opening remarks. The first speaker was Robert Kuan, the man behind Chowking, the Philippines first Chinese fast food chain. He is a proud alumnus of UP Chinese Student Association who had also been the organizations president for two years. In his talk, he imparted the importance of having a vision, recalling that he had wanted to have a Chinese fast food chain in the Philippines. To do so, he stepped out of his comfort zone in their family busi-ness and started to work on his goal. Little by little, it grew. Now, it has over 100 branches in the Philippines and a number of franchises abroad. After its success, he then ventured into another field. Though he did not have a background in medicine, he still accepted the invitation to be part of the board of St. Lukes Medical Center, of which he eventually became Chairperson. His vision then was to revamp it and make it the best hospital in Asia. This is evident in its transformation from a simple church-run hospital to one of the most ad-vanced hospitals in the Philippines, and now, St. Lukes Medical Center is considered one of Asias best hospi-tals. Robert Kuan states that without a clear vision, all these successes in his life would not be possible. He suggested two questions that one should always ask: Am I moving? Am I contributing to who I want to be 5-10 years from now? As a result, he also states that the worst thing that could happen in someones life is to lose direction. At the end of his talk, he challenged everyone to make a vision for AFICS, because the potential in this organization could impact the world. The second and last speaker was Gerry Chua, known also as Mr. Ube. Even as he recalled the hardships he endured, he was smiling and very jolly throughout his talk. Eng Bee Tin, their family business, was in deep debt. He said that almost nobody believed in them because their cheques always bounced. He remembered how people tagged him as sira ulo (crazy) and shop lifter. He recalled how he kept visiting a supermarket because the weather was hot and he wanted to experience the cool airconditioning inside. During one hot day, he asked a saleslady at the supermarket which ice cream flavor sells best, to which she replied ube. Sud-denly, he heard a soft voice whispering to him, ube hopia. Though his friends did not like the idea, he still pursued it and created a business out of ube hopia. Along with his hopia career, he was also a fire volunteer. Gerry was also privileged to meet Cory Quirino, a TV show host, in her feature on Binondo. Cory asked if she could ride on one of the fire trucks and Gerry agreed. As a result, the short exposure on camera made Eng Bee Tin popular, as well as his newest creation ube hopia. He expanded his business by opening two more storesCaf Mezzanine and Mr. Ube Rice and Noodle House. As his way of paying back for the blessings that he had been receiving, Caf Mezzanines income was always donated to fire trucks while Mr. Ube Rice and Noodle Houses were to ambulances. Today, Eng Bee Tin is household name for Chinese delicacies. Even amid success, he stressed humility, as he reminded the participants to always be grateful and to remember where they came from. As for the secret to his success, he said sipag, tiyaga, love your work, your product, gumawa ng kabutihan sa kapwa, at mana-langin sa Diyos. He ended his inspirational talk by giving his latest product-- teakoys to every participant. The conference ended at around 4:30pm, leaving each and every participant inspired by the speakers. Next year, UP Chinese Student Association will host the conferencesee you then!

There is no such thing as a perfect person; it is right to claim it is something not possible at all. Be he student, child, or adult, for we all will eventually fall. What is unique, however, is how they all endeavour; ang Iskolar ng Bayan, may mga mali rin, kahit minsan. -Me after watching part of Les Misrables We all make mistakes, and its best that we learn from them. Many times, however, we tend to see the mis-takes of others, and we end up laughing about them afterwards. Lets decide on a compromise. We admit our mistakes, and we get to laugh about how others make them. The twist about this article, though, is that it involves mistakes usually made by the typical Iskolar ng Bayan. Many of us have been innocent about what to do and what not to do in UP, and lets lighten the stress we have by reminiscing the bloopers in our UP life. The idea began with a simple post on Facebook which expanded to accommodate a Google document. Re-member this, guys? Hi CSA! I'm planning to write a Currents article (or compilation, rather) on "Common Mistakes Made in UP". Please give suggestions :D It's better from fellow CSA people eh Ex. Taking the APE (and having calculus right away) :( (I dont exactly regret taking the APE, I just regret deciding to take calculus right away. I get a lower chance of attaining a higher GWA, and Im traumatized by calculus immediately in the first semester. Hey, at least I get to graduate earlier I hope.) Sadly, the editing deadline has long been over and here is a list of problems to laugh about: RCs corner Due to the rather tremendous amount of contributions by RC, I have decided to give him an entire subsection of the list. Hear of what this poetry master has to say about the pitfalls of the usual Iskolar:

Thinking I have a chance with this girl. Holy shit. Ikot jeep will leave UP grounds. San yung pigeon hall? Thinking theres toilet paper in UP Thinking hes straight.

RC gives us mistakes about hope and innocence. The first and last may not always be mistakes, but its defi-nitely a common one. Practicality is also at its prime when nature calls at the wrong time, thus, it is important to remember to bring your own toiletries. Finally, never forget about geography and its absence, for worrying about leaving the vicinity of the campus and burning your eyes out looking for a non-existent hall is a waste of precious time.

How Not To Vegetate This Summer By: Beatriz Tan

When left alone, matter tends to go back to its natural statewhich, for most human mortals, re-

sembles a potato. And with the summer heat, the summer belly creeps up on all of us who are no

longer walking from Math or Engg or CHK to AS every other day. Still, you dont have to be super-

human to stay in shapeit just takes a few motivational tricks and willpower boosters.

Sign up for an event. Pay for it. Sign up for an event. Pay for it. Sign up for an event. Pay for it.

It isnt hard to sign up for a 5-kilometer run two months before it happens. Sites like Takbo.ph and Runrio.com often have a list of upcoming runs that anyone can join. Runs arent the only events you can sign up forthere could be small barangay competitions for various sports you can find. (Training for swimming competitions and triathlons vary the exercises enough to stay interesting.) What matters, though, is treating the event much like a recital, where it is not a practice session, but a show where the performer displays his skill. Nothing motivates like a deadline.

And yes, you have to pay for it when you register, before the training starts. Nothing motivates like wallet burn.

    1

Corollary: Sign up for classes. Pay for it. (If Corollary: Sign up for classes. Pay for it. (If Corollary: Sign up for classes. Pay for it. (If

you have to.) you have to.) you have to.)

This would be my favorite, since all you have to do is show up. No need to decide what or how to train, since nothing motivates like the fairly attractive trainer telling you what to do. The best ones are the ones with a 30 to 60-day expiration date, perfect for the average length of summer. Swim-ming, yoga, dance, aerobics, Zumba, weights, circuit training, and even pole dancing are in the roster. At the end of the summer, you could even pick up a few skills. Bring your friends. Nothing motivates like surprises.

What if... You change Harry Potter but keep most of the wizarding world constant? Excerpts from Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5782108/1/Harry-Potter-and-the-Methods-of-Rationality):

Something, somewhere, somewhen, must have happened differently... PETUNIA EVANS married Michael Verres, a Professor of Biochemistry at Oxford. HARRY JAMES POTTER-EVANS-VERRES grew up in a house filled to the brim with books. He once bit a math teacher who didn't know what a logarithm was. He's read Godel, Escher, Bach and Judgment Under Uncertain-ty: Heuristics and Biases and volume one of The Feynman Lectures on Physics. And despite what everyone who's met him seems to fear, he doesn't want to become the next Dark Lord. He was raised better than that. He wants to discover the laws of magic and become a god. HERMIONE GRANGER is doing better than him in every class except broomstick riding. DRACO MALFOY is exactly what you would expect an eleven-year-old boy to be like if Darth Vader were his doting father. PROFESSOR QUIRRELL is living his lifelong dream of teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts, or as he prefers to call his class, Battle Magic. His students are all wondering what's going to go wrong with the Defense Professor this time. DUMBLEDORE is either insane, or playing some vastly deeper game which involved setting fire to a chicken. DEPUTY HEADMISTRESS MINERVA MCGONAGALL needs to go off somewhere private and scream for a while.

Presenting: HARRY POTTER AND THE METHODS OF RATIONALITY

You ain't guessin' where this one's going. Dear Mum and Dad: Hogwarts is lots of fun. I learned how to violate the Second Law of Thermodynamics in Charms class, and I met a girl named Hermione Granger who reads faster than I do. I'd better leave it at that. Your loving son, Harry James Potter-Evans-Verres.

    The Graduates of UPCSA

    2013

    By: Joseph Chanco

The Currents Team proudly presents the graduating members of 2013. We asked them to say a few things and impart some words of encouragement and wisdom to the current members of CSA. To the graduates, thank you for your service and loyalty to this organization! We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours!

    1. Ang, Harley Guerald Co (BS Psychology) Word of advice to you young whippersnapper: never work at the tam-bayan. The tambayan is actually a multiversal fun singularity that causes local space-time to dilate. Because of this, you will never accomplish any-thing acads-related within close proximity of it. I guess that my best mem-ories of CSA are just hanging around, there, with people coming and going. Everyone has their own story to write as they go on with life and the way that these stories intersect, collide and mold one another is simply magi-cal. As the sunflowers bloom and this chapter of my story draws to a close, I can't help but wish that it would last longer. Unfortunately for us all, that's not what life has in store for me. Anyway, I hope to spend what's left of this time with you guys. Be seeing you around!

    2. Lao, Lizette Tiopianco (BS Chemistry) I am really grateful that CSA had accepted me to be a part of this family. It gave me the opportunity to participate in new things and meet more friends from different fields. Kahit na rare member ako, trust me super happy ako sa mga achievements ng CSA. Since Ill be graduating (hopefully) this April 2013, Ill share 3 things that have helped me survive until fourth year: 1) Okay lang bumagsak, basta siguraduhin mong maka-katayo ka pa. 2) Grades are just numbers; they dont define who you are. 3) Study hard. Pray harder.

    3. Pow, Harrison Jeremy Say (BS Civil Engineering) Fondest memory in CSA: those spontaneous moments where we would go to random places eat out, watch movie, going on adven-tures, all of you trying out new things at the same time. Its really a pleasure to be part of those explorations (P.S. di ko pa rin natrtry isaw tho HAHA) Looking back in history now, I actually didnt pass the app process the first time (sobrang pataps ko lang HAHAHA). In fact, I didnt have any intention of running for an execomm position at all. Who knew 4 years later, Id do the opposite. Maybe thats why when I ran for the position as Externals VP (with a little nudging from An-drew), I promised to myself 2 things: 1.) I will change this org for the better and 2.) that I will defend that one applicant, gaano man sya kapatapon, if I know that person can contribute something to the org. To CSA, thank so much for the journey and experience. If there is one thing I could impart to you guys, its this question: What is your vision (either for this org or anything for that matter)? Whatever it is, no matter how small or impossible it is, dont let others tell you it cant be done. Do it.

    4. See, Melvin Floyd Escobido (BS Molecular Biology and Biotechnology) Hey there, CSA! I know I havent been around a lot for the past two years but I am very proud to be part of this great organiza-tion ever since my first sem in UP. Ive spent many precious hours in the tambayan eating lunch, studying, taking a nap, catching up with friends or just chilling. Be sure to take care of it while its still there because youll miss it when its gone. Now that Im graduating, I can look back fondly at all the memories I had with CSA such as drinking hot sauce for the talents night or the Assassins game in last years Intercomm. Thank you for eve-rything CSA and may you reach greater heights in the future!

    5. Share, Kreeshia Tiu (BA English) Four years in CSA, who wouldve known? A huge chunk of my college memories has something to do with the org. Ive been through so many ups and downs with the org, as you younguns will expect to also have. It is in CSA where I have found most of my college friends, so it leaves such a sweet spot in my heart. The single thing I want to leave to you younguns about CSA is: work while you have fun. Please do the hardworking Execomm a favor and help them out in your committees projects. Its your responsibility as a member to do so :) CSA is the org for me and the moment I realized this was during Ondoy. No, not because I got stranded with a bunch of members during my final interview. It was then when I saw the members practically checked up on every single member of the org to see if everyone was safe. Now thats family, as much as that sounded very clich. Its a good org, and I hope you guys continue to make it so. Be good to it, and it will be good to you. Thank you CSA, for the four crazy years, for being my comfort zone. See you all soon (because the 50th anniversarys coming up ;) make it good!

    6. Tan, Juliane Sydel Lim Hi CSA! Before I graduate this year *tear* I would like to say thank you for making my 5 years in UP fun and memorable, for being there for me through tough times, and for allowing me to be a part of your family. Alam niyo CSA is more than just a tambayan with people in it. Kahit san lugar pa sa UP basta may CSA people UPCSA na un! Its the people that counts :) I remembered nung sumabog ung chempav. 10-4 break ko but CSA was there to keep me safe and entertained!! =)) Words cannot describe how happy and blessed I am to be part of CSA. So ang sad rin na I have to graduate. But ow well just remember to keep each other close and safe and I would definitely miss you guys! >:(

    8. Uy, Jared Eiser Aguinaldo (BS Food Technology) I joined CSA during my first semester in UP, and it was one of the best decisions I've made in college. It helped me with the transition from the conservative classrooms of Grace to the thought-provoking cultures of UP. I made new friends, with whom (and at whom) I could joke and laugh. And the best part is, they gave me a pink shoe keychain for being the tambay king back when I was an app. I'm very much thankful for that keychain. Its very useful. My dad uses it for the house keys. There is so much more that I thank CSA for, though. From cooking with chocolate, to playing with non-lethal guns and spoons and Bar-bie dolls, to going to trips in lands far far away no matter how imagi-nary. Basketball. ACLE venues and speakers. The memories, the fun, the lessons. The friendships. The smiles I get when I think about those things. In retrospect, all those moments of temporary bliss seem so, well, temporary. Temporary and irreplaceable and priceless and I cant fucking describe it all at the same time. Nonetheless, no regrets. Thanks, CSA. It was fun. 'Til we meet again.

    9. Wang, Cassandra Leigh Lacasta (BS Computer Science) " I will never forget the first time I asked for Chris Ng's signature I called him Ahya Chris and he yelled "Sinong Ahya?!" really loud and I thought he was angry and I got scared and I tear-ed up a bit. I don't think he noticed and he signed my sig sheet anyway. This didn't stop me from adoring him lots afterwards, however. I hope you kids always welcome the new kids and give them a fun time. Weren't you surprised how easy it was to get along with every-body when you first got here? Continue that tradition, please. Also, please be nice to the CSA cats."

    10. Wee, Lance Charleson Yu (BS Industrial Engineering) Thank you CSA for the awesome and truly memorable 5 years of epicness! I've seen CSA grow through my college life and I am proud of all the accomplishments and cultural events (especially the time I almost won the eating contest HAHAHA)! Continue to strive for excel-lence. I know you guys can do it.

    11. Yap, Andrew Vincent See (BS Industrial Engineering)

Dear CSA, Until now, it hasnt sunk in that my college journey, and conse-quently, my CSA journey, is coming to an end. On some days, it seems as if my stay in CSA hasnt been very long. But on others, I realize that it really has been a long time since I was just an applicant. I keep on telling people that I had no intention of joining CSA. I wanted to broaden my horizons and meet different kinds of people. But at some point, I decided to give it a shot. I really felt like it was very fortunate for me to join CSA, because I was able to find a home I could turn to. Sometimes, I wouldnt feel comfortable in certain situations during my college life, but CSA was always there as my refuge. I was wrong to think that joining CSA would not allow me to broaden my horizons, be-cause my stay in CSA has allowed me to grow more as a person and give me a unique leadership and development experience.

As the outgoing president, there are so many things I want to say, but I just dont have the space for all of that right now. Whats important though, is that the members and officers of CSA do not lose the vision that us oldies have worked for. CSA can do so much as an org, because we have many talented members. The problem is that not everyone gets tapped properly, or that people prioritize other things. Thats perfectly understandable. But I believe that there is a way for us to get the most out of our members and to make every moment they spend with CSA count. One strong element of the CSA culture is the barkada concept. Compared to other orgs, there is a sense of looking out for CSA members and a maintained bond over the years. Just like any org, CSA has its own cliques. But we somehow are able to support each other when needed, which is something some orgs are not able to do. I dont know how to fully explain it in words, but I think some of you have also noticed this when comparing CSA with other orgs. Theres just something about CSA that keeps on bringing us back, like a family. Thats one thing that kept me in CSA, and I hope it will continue to be there so that everyone has the motivation to stay. Some people say that org bonds are temporary, and that theyll eventually wane. While it may be true that I wont know anyone anymore if I return to CSA after 5 years, I think that the bonds forged during my stay in CSA will carry on. Im looking forward to hearing about how you guys become successful in your own ways a few years from now, and Im sure that our common experiences in CSA will bring us back together. Whats unique about the CSA networking experience is that we get to meet people from so many different courses, so once were all working, well have a diverse set of friends and acquaintances to work with. Before I end, I would like to thank all the people who have made my CSA experience special, especially to those I got close to. Thank you for adding color and meaning to my college life, and please do keep in touch. You guys know who you are (a.k.a. Im afraid I might forget people if I name names, so Ill stay on the safe side HAHAHA). Thank you as well to everyone in CSA for the support, friendship, company and good times. My best memories in college will always be with CSA. Thank you, and see you again! Andrew Yap

Times flies soooo fast. I had such a blast delivering gossips to every one. I hope you guys enjoyed my gossips. Thank you for supporting me forever and always! I know a lot of you read my page first (or just read my page) when Currents comes out. Anyway, heres my first dish for everyone. I heard from a reliable source that lovely lady is now the new crush ng bayan of their little group. She and her friends started this group with a couple of guys, but without her knowing (or maybe she knows) almost all of the single guys in the group likes her. My suggestion: ONE OF YOU GUYS BETTER DO SOMETHING FAST! You snooze you lose. Ms. Series Addict was supposed to study for her finals this finals week. BUT! I heard she was busy watching series, series and MORE series. She even crammed her papers. Luckily, even without stud-ying much, she was able to get just the right score needed to pa. WOOOOO! Congratulations to her! Another love story, I heard Mr. Cool Dude likes cute little lady. Sadly, he doesnt have the guts to tell her. Tell her NOW dude! He has been doing little things so that he could spend more time with her but cute little lady is just really dense. He definitely needs bigger gestures for him to be noticed. This power couple has been misleading everyone ever since we started noticing their spark. They keep denying the thing they have and insist that theyre just friends. Cleary theyre not friends. Since the semester had ended for both of them. Its now or never. Nasty mem forgot to throw his trash after N people reminded him to throw his trash in the gar-bage can. N people already reminded him and he still forgot? YES! Next time, wait, I hope theres no next time! Throw your trash properly!!
