Zatska AbstractionThe selected painting was by Hans Zatzka, “A Water Idyll,“ which was painted in Austria during the height of his career. Analysis of the painting and different bas reliefs broke the piece down into its conceptual components, which we then represented through a 3-D sculpture. Plastic was used to represent an implied cone of vision, while different geometric forms pierce this cone.

Lovell Beach HouseAn introduction to architecture, each student was assigned a case study house to research, analyse and reconstruct. The concepts expressed in my assigned house, the Lovell Beach House (1926) had to do with structure, framed perspectives, and circulation. This method of cradling interior and exterior space above the ground are a prime example of Rudolph M. Schindler’s architectural prowess.

Lovell Beach HouseThe class was instructed to create a 2-D and a 3-D abstraction of their case study house, using the core concepts expressed throughout the space. On the right, the 3-D demensional mondo slides piece by piece in a sequence of cradling, offering a platform superceeded by plexiglass, invisting the exterior to blend with the implied “interior” space.

Lovell Beach HouseThe follow composition orginated from combined plan and section, as well as a further abstracted of the previous 3-dimensional model overlaid on top of the two drawings. This created a void where the volumetric space would have been, as well as helped structure the layers of color to work within the grid.

Lovell Beach HouseThe Visitor Center project was to take the important concepts of our case study homes and to create a new space that maitained a relationship with said concepts.
My design focused on a romantic relationship between the viewpoints of the original home and my center, privildging the Beach House and allowing my center to appreciate both the view and the house itself simultaneously.

TECHNICS OF COMMUNICATION
Approaching ScaleThe Shiny Object project was an introduction to Adobe Illustrator and scaling objects. The project itself taught deeper analysis into line weight and color, as well as a look into proportion and how different things are noticeable at different scales.
For my shiny object, I chose a sentimental paint key that I always carry with me.

Shadow and LifeOur first supplementary assignment, we were responsible to produce a textured rendering that captured the essence of our house and helped create a realistic setting for the case study to become apart of. My case study assignment is the Lovell Beach House, by Rudolph M. Schindler in Newport Beach, California in the mid 1920’s.

Shadow and LifeOur second case study, our class observed, documented, and conceptualized the Barnes Foundation over the course of several weeks, putting together a portfolio supporting our concept, as well as an original collage and several photo manipulations.

Narration with GraphicAfter selecting a book to work with, we were tasked to create new book covers that emulate the concepts found in the book. I chose a book I was fairly familiar with, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. The story acted a a commentary on the industrial revolution and today’s problems on a class based societal level.

human costs of mindless conformity.
Shaped by genetic engineering and behavioral conditioning, people are productive and content in roles they have been assigned at conception. Government-sanctioned drugs and recreational sex ensure that everyone is a happy, unquestioning consumer; messy emotions have been anesthetized and private attachments are considered obscene. Huxley’s commentary on this “ideal world“ exists within the protaganist Bernand Marx, who ventures out from the capital to better
understand the world, and himself.

Brion CemeteryTogether with a partner, Mikaeel Stewart, we put together a conceptual competition board on an assigned site, the Brion Cemetery.
Located Northwest of Venice, Italy, the Brion Cemetery is the work and resting ground of exceptional architect, Carlo Scarpa, known for meticulous detail and as a master of craft.

The Brion Cemetery, built in 1968, was built by Carlo Scarpa through commision of the Brion family, specifically for Gisseppe Brion, a self made “man of the people,“ founder of the prestigious Brionvega Electronics Co.
The installation stemmed from an answer to the question, “Can Architecture be Poetry?“ Scarpa elegantly approaches this question through a sloped concrete, ornate Gothic architecture, and with every detailed carved in pursuit of user experience.
Conceptually, Scarpa focuses on repetition, circulation throughout the site, and an overwhelming sense of refinement out of respect for nature and life.

Site VisitsThe focus of this first project was to visit and document a local site, sketching perspectives and taking pictures to further a concept we aimed to represent. From that point on, we formatted and edited our photos to express that concept.
