Overview

With a vision for a healthy environment, speedy diagnosis and efficient reporting workflow,

UNITAB MEDIC SDN. BHD decided to “GO DIGITAL” in early 2012 by transmitting X-rays of

foreign workers over the internet to a Centralized FOMEMA Server.

To envisage this vision, UNITAB FOMEMA evaluated several software solutions from

different parts of the globe that could securely and efficiently digitize and transmit the X-

rays from the 869 clinics spread over Malaysia to their server in Kuala Lumpur.

After careful scoping and verification, UNITAB FOMEMA identified and selected a few key

players to start a PROOF OF CONCEPT and Salinee Healthcare was one among them.

Chronology of Events

In accordance to this plan, Salinee Healthcare conducted the first pilot and proof of study in

Malaysia for FOMEMA and MOH in May 2012 connecting 4 clinics in Kuala Lumpur, Penang

and Selangor using SWAST-Care.

In order to create a total VENDOR NEUTRAL solution, all the CR and DR devices like AGFA

(Klinik Aman), EXAMION (Klinik Joe Fernandez & Elizabeth Medical Centre) and FUJIFILM

(Putra Medical Centre) were used. All these CR/DR equipment were connected to the

Toshiba X-Ray machines for the pilot run to test compatibility.

Diagnosis and reporting were done using MAXIS broadband data cards from remote

locations within Malaysia and also tested from overseas.

Chronology of Events

After many levels of tests and discussion, Salinee Healthcare’s “SWAST-Care” was selected

as its Digital Transmission Software.

In order to further validate the results, SWAST-Care was put to a free hold evaluation test

under the supervision and guidance of The College of Radiology. In November 2012, The

College of Radiology verified and certified that X-ray images transmitted using SWAST-Care

are of diagnostic good quality and their performance is optimum.

SWAST-Care is now integrated with FOMEMA’s Online System (NIOS and MERTS) to make

a complete digital solution that is FILMLESS and PAPERLESS.

Chronology of Events

A pilot study was carried out wef 13 July 2013 connecting 34 clinics to this digital

framework until the integration and live test phase. All the CR and DR vendors were also

invited to take part in the pilot project.

Digital Awareness program and knowledge sharing along with necessary trainings were

given to the Radiographers, GPs and Radiologists during CME and FOMEMA conferences

held throughout the year.

Currently SWAST-Care is adapted by more than 170 clinics throughout Malaysia.
