HBC Osceola County - Contractor Meet and Greet

County Contractors Meet and Greet which took place on May 30, 2012 at Osceola Heritage Park was a huge success. This was a first for the County to present an event like this. This event was a joint effort presented by the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce - Hispanic Business Council and sponsored by the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners, the School District of Osceola County, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Wyndham Worldwide, Gaylord Palms Resorts, HBIF, and the Central and North Florida Minority Supplier Development Council. They

brought together 15 prime contractors to meet with sub contractors to create work opportunities and build future and long-lasting relationships. The event attracted over 100 businesses and over 200 attendees. It was a great turnout and there was certainly a lot of interaction. We look forward to creating more opportunities in Osceola County for minority owned businesses and sub contractors. para Contratistas del Condado Osceola, se llevó a cabo el 30 de mayo de 2012 en el Osceola Heritage Park y fue todo un éxito. Esta fue la primera vez en que se hace un evento de esta naturaleza en el Condado. Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday May 29th, Dolores Huerta—a civil rights, immigrant, workers and women’s advocate—received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work with the National Farmworkers Association, her co-founding of the United Farm Workers of America, and her pivotal work in securing California’s Agricultural Labor Relations Act of 1975 along with disability insurance for farmworkers in California. Dolores Huerta has dedicated her entire life to bettering the lives of others and was honored for her service. As recently as 2002, she started the Dolores Huerta Foundation, an organization dedicated to developing community organizers and national leaders. In 1998, President Clinton awarded her the Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is our Nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.President Obama commemorated

Memorial Day on May 28th at the Arlington National Cemetery. He reminded Americans of the love of country that our veterans and service members show and how they have given everything in service to our country and in the defense of our nation’s founding principles. The President also visited the Vietnam Memorial in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Hispanics have served in every war since the founding of our country.

Osceola County, FL - Foreign high school students are scheduled to arrive soon for academic year homestay programs, and the sponsoring organization needs a few more local host families. The students are anxiously awaiting news of their new families. This is the last chance for these young ambassadors to fulfill their life-long dreams, and their placement deadlines are rapidly approaching.According to Pacific Intercultural Exchange

(P.I.E.) President, John Doty, the students are all between the ages of 15 and 18 years, are English-speaking, have their own spending money, carry accident and health insurance, and are anxious to share their cultural experiences with their new American families. P.I.E. currently has programs to match almost every family’s needs, ranging in length from one semester to a full academic year, where the students attend local public and private high schools. P.I.E. area representatives match students

with host families by finding common interests and lifestyles through an in-home meeting. Prospective host families are able to review

student applications and select the perfect match. As there are no “typical” host families, P.I.E. can fit a student into just about any situation, whether it is a single parent, a childless couple, a retired couple or a large family.Families who host for P.I.E. are also eligible to

claim a monthly charitable contribution deduction on their itemized tax returns for each month they host a sponsored student.

For the upcoming programs, P.I.E. has students from Germany, the Former Soviet Union, Venezuela, Argentina, Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands, Brazil, Korea, Mexico, Denmark, China, and many other countries. P.I.E. is a non-profit educational organization

that has sponsored more than 25,000 students from 45 countries since its founding in 1975. The organization is designated by the United States

Bright House sports network Breakfast of Champions

Maitland, FL - Los mejores atletas de las escuelas superiores del Condado Osceola fueron honrados el 22 de mayo de 2012, en el Desayuno para Campeones de la Cadena de Deportes de Bright House llevado a cabo en el Club de Golf Falcon’s Fire. Un total de 28 atletas de todo el Distrito Escolar del Condado Osceola recibieron medallas especiales por ser seleccionados como los mejores jugadores masculinos y femeninos en sus respectivos deportes. Selections of the top athletes were made by local high school athletic coaches and athletic directors, as well as Florida Sports Hall of Fam and legendary newspaper prep sports columnist Bill Buchalter, who works for Bright House Sports Network. An award was also presented for the Athletic Director of the Year to Mal Harpell of Poinciana High School.“These are the top high school athletes

and they deserve to be recognized for their accomplishments,” said Paul Kosuth, General Manager of Bright House Sports Network. “We want to make sure that these young men and women receive the praise and acknowledgement they deserve for the skills and accomplishments they have demonstrated in their sports all through high school.”The Central Florida Sports

Free nutritious meals for children all summer

Osceola County, FL - Even though it is summer break, learning and good nutrition for students is still a priority. As such, the Osceola School District will once again be participating in the federally-funded Summer Food Service Program to provide free, nutritious meals for children Monday – Friday during the months of June, July, and August 2012. All sites are located in a low-income area where at least fifty percent of the children are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals. The feeding services will be from 6/18/12 through 8/10/12. “enrolled” sites, where only children enrolled in the summer program can participate. The Summer Food Service Program for children is a federally-funded program operated nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Florida Department of Education. The program was established to ensure that children in needy areas could continue to receive nutritious meals during school vacations that are comparable to those served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs during the school year.

El condado Osceola también tiene 70 lugares “registrados”, donde sólo pueden participar los niños que están matriculados en el programa de verano. El Programa de Servicio de Alimentos en Verano para Niños es un programa financiado por el gobierno federal que es operado en la Nación por el Departamento de Agricultura de los Estados Unidos y administrado por el Departamento de Educación de Florida. El programa fue establecido para asegurar que los niños en áreas necesitadas pudieran continuar recibiendo comidas nutritivas durante las vacaciones de verano, que se comparen con aquellas servidas durante el año escolar bajo los programas de Almuerzo Escolar Nacional y Desayuno Escolar.

aLCO – Clase de Microsoft excel 2010 Básica

En esta clase de seis horas, los estudiantes aprenderán conceptos básicos para navegar en Excel, entrar data, crear fórmulas simples, y formatear celdas. Los estudiantes deben de tener conocimientos básicos de teclado y Windows antes de tomar esta clase. La clase será el martes 12 de junio y el jueves 14 de junio 5:30 p.m. a 8:30 p.m. El costo es de $49.00. Si, en el 2012 los votantes del Condado Osceola irán a las urnas varias veces para expresar sus preferencias políticas, para seleccionar a aquellos que quieren quedarse por otro periodo, y para ejercer sus derechos como ciudadanos. El 14 de agosto se llevarán a cabo las elecciones primarias y el 6 de noviembre será el día de ir a las urnas para las elecciones generales y las posiciones aún abiertas del

For some political races primary elections are the final elections for a candidate. This election is as important as the general election. When there are only two candidates on a non-patrician race on the primaries the position is filled by the winner.

Yes, in 2012 Osceola County voters will go to the polls several times to express their political preferences, to select those who want to stay for an additional period, and to execute their rights as citizens. On August 14 Primary Elections will take place; and November 6 will be the day to go to the polls for the General Election, County and City of Kissimmee open positions.

At the primaries there is a tendency to not participate. In 2008 primaries, only 20,285 (14%) voted, of a total of 143,999 register to vote. This year there is also a record number of register voters with 148,200.

The Oath of Office reaffirms each elected or re-elected official’s commitment to faithfully perform all the duties as Mayor and District City Commissioner of the City of Orlando. The City of Orlando’s Charter requires the Mayor and City Commissioners to recite the Oath before they enter into the duties of office.

On his speech Mayor Dyer thanks residents for their confidence. He highlighted the accomplishment of his administration, kept promises and future plans. Finally, he shares the success with all his team members.

Mayor Dyer closed his speech saying: “We have done so much. But, we still have work to do. So today, we recommit ourselves to keep it going.”

customers to be aware of a multi-state scam that has made its way to Kissimmee. The scam targets utility customers and aims to steal identities and utility payments.Under the scam, customers are being told that President

Obama has approved special funding through the Federal Reserve Bank for utility bill assistance. There is no such funding.Through automated phone calls, in person door-to-door visits,

and online solicitation, the scammers are asking customers for personal information, such as social security identification numbers. They then provide victims with a fraudulent bank routing number with which to pay their utility bills.“Several customers have notified us that they had been

contacted in recent days,” said Susan Postans, vice president of customer service. “Customers who believe they have been victimized by the scam should contact us at 407-933-9800.”

Boston Celtics derrota al Heat en el Juego 5

Celtics era muy Viejo para avanzar a las finales de la NBA. Ellos les han probado a todos que tienen lo que se necesita para vencer al Heat. El Celtics derrotó al Miami Heat 94-90 en el Juego 5 la noche del martes, logrando la ventaja 3-2 en las Finales de la Conferencia del Este lo que los lleva de regreso a Boston para el Juego 6 la noche del jueves. Kevin Garnett terminó con 26 puntos y 11 rebotes, con la asistencia de Paul Pierce anotando 19 puntos. LeBron James tuvo 30 puntos y 13 rebotes y Dwayne Wade le añadió 27 puntos.Que podemos decir de

Boston Celtics were too old to advance in the NBA Playoffs. They have proven to everyone that they have what it takes to beat the Heat. Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 94-90 in Game 5 on Tuesday night, taking a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals which takes them back to Boston for Game 6 Thursday night. Kevin Garnett finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds, with the assist of Paul Pierce scoring 19 points. LeBron James had 30 points and 13 rebounds and Dwayne Wade added 27 points.And what about Miami — the

team that was created with hopes of destroying Boston as the power in the Eastern Conference — is suddenly in big trouble. Miami fans are even questioning if their team is going to advance any further because Boston has the upper hand at the moment. After suffering a strained lower abdominal muscle, Chris Bosh returns in Game 5. This was his first game back since his last appearance on May 13, 2012. Even though Bosh played only 14 minutes, Miami Heat had their trio

back. He finished the game with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh are great players but their on-court effort isn’t

always there, it came and went in Game 5 and they couldn’t get through the Celtics defense when it was a close game. There’s still hope for Miami because if

they win Game 6 they will be headed back to Miami for Game 7 Saturday night, but the pressure is on.With coach Doc Rivers

motivating his team, the

Celtics have gathered themselves to play like the veteran team they are. There was a great collaborative effort from all Celtics players Tuesday night. They came together as a team when they needed it the most. Mickael Pietrus was not playing to well in the first half, but in the second half he made two huge 3-pointers in the fourth quarter helping Boston to stay alive. Will the big four, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Rajon Rondo have what it takes to win Game 6 at home with a high energy and support from their fans. The momentum will be there for Boston.Three games later, they’re

one win away from the NBA finals. Let’s see if the Boston Celtics can hold their composure to take out Miami Thursday night at TD Garden in Boston, or will the Heat force a Game 7 back in Miami. Everyone is favoring the Heat, but I think Boston Celtics are going to prove the world wrong. The Oklahoma City Thunder await there components after winning the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday night against San Antonio Spurs.
