Introducing RIK EVANS

WHY AM I STANDING? I believe that the NHS is the greatest health

system in the world. Created in 1948 to provide

health care free at the time of need, paid for by

public taxation and provided by public service.

We are rapidly giving our health service away to

profit driven private companies and I want to

stop them. WHY ME? I have spent 30 years on Health Boards in Cornwall. My knowledge of

executive board member of RCHT and vice chairman of the board, I made a

principled decision to resign from a job I loved because of the privatisation of

NHS services.

WHAT IS WRONG

WITH PRIVATE BUSINESS?

Nothing. My whole life from the age of 21 has been spent starting and running small businesses in Cornwall employing up to 250 people. But there is plenty of evidence to suggest that private health companies cost much more in bureaucracy and are less reliable than publicly provided health care. But remember:-

Ten years ago only Rik on the Panel voted against

SERCO which has now failed miserably.  Only Rik on the RCHT Board voted against the catering and cleaning contract going to MITIE which is now generating so many complaints from staff and patients.

What the NHS Needs

Stop privatisation of the NHS in Cornwall. Stop the freeze on NHS staff pay. A proper resolution to the NHS funding crisis. Crack down on tax dodging to recoup unpaid tax to invest in health & social care. More hospital beds in Cornwall to prevent cancelled operations.

back into RCHT away from private for profit hospitals. A well-funded social care budget.

The NHS is the best in the world so let us keep it

IS NOT a ONE ISSUE PARTY It has many sound polices

-FAIRER SOCIETY: reject the austerity agenda and make those who caused the recession pay. Crack down on tax evasion to help pay for social services and welfare.

-HOUSING: launch a huge programme of house building funded through money saved from scrapping HS2. Introduce rent controls to reduce the cost of housing benefit to the tax-payer.

-REFORM PARLIAMENT- review the party whips system, introduce stricter controls over conflicts of interest and

£67,000 pa with generous expenses which is more than enough to live on.

-REFORM THE EU- make the EU democratically accountable to voters, end secrecy and curtail power of lobbyists.

-TRANSPORT - Bring back a nationalised British Rail, introduce more cycle lanes and pedestrian areas. NHA polices can be found on www.nhap.org

SUPPORT FOR THE ENVIROMENT

its special qualities must be conserved and at the heart of economic and planning decision making

A clean environment is essential to our health and wellbeing. It needs to be protected from misuse & pollution.

Profit must never be put before environmental safety and essential conservation.

Climate change issues are serious so the NHS must examine the potential of sustainable department approaches to release resources to reinvest in services. There is an urgent need to engage with relevant organizations and local communities to seek agreement on health issues and decisions which may have an effect on the environment, both locally and nationally.
