    Position Overview

    Position Title: Executive Director

    Type: Full-time, salaried

    Location: ESW is currently headquartered inSan Francisco, California. The

    organization will consider applicants who wish to be based in

    other cities.

    Deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position

    is filled.

    Description of Duties

    The Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic direction, vision, and

    leadership for the successful execution of ESWs programs.

    The Executive Director is responsible for representing the organization, providing

    leadership for external relations with donors, partners, and the public. With the paid

    and volunteer management team, the Executive Director provides vision and support to

    ESWs members and chapters, facilitating the sharing of best practices, and developing

    centrally-coordinated programs that maximize the effectiveness of our programmaticefforts.

    Specific Duties

    MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    Provide vision and leadership to ESW staff and volunteers. Develop and maintain long-range plan. Work closely with Board of Directors, to facilitate board development,

    organizational oversight, and decision making.

    Develop new staff positions and hiring policies (in coordination with Board).Continued

    FUNDRAISING AND PARTNERSHIPS

    Cultivate strategic partnerships for the successful implementation of ESWsprograms.

    Cultivate new funding relationships, in coordination with the AdvancementCommittee.

    Manage and leverage existing funding relationships, in coordination with theAdvancement Committee.

    Cultivate and manage major donors, according to strategy developed in conjunctionwith Advancement Committee.

    PUBLIC RELATIONS &COMMUNICATIONS

    Manage ESWs participation in external conference and events. Speak at conferences and events to increase awareness about ESW, in order to

    cultivate membership, funding, and partnerships. Represent ESW to various institutions, including donors, educational institutions,

    and international development agencies.

    PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

    Provide overall leadership and management for existing ESW programs, includingthe SEED Program, education and outreach initiatives, and chapter projects.

    Manage national office interaction with ESW National Conference team (rotatinglocation) to provide vision and support for annual event.

    Develop and expand ESW programs to serve constituent needs (engineeringstudents and professionals, community development partners around the globe,

    donors).

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    Report to Board of Directors. Provide supervision for all ESW staff (paid and volunteer).

    Job Requirements

    SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in management or equivalent. Highly motivated and entrepreneurial, with demonstrated leadership, management,

    and team-building skills.

    Demonstrated knowledge of effective management policies and procedures,including a working knowledge of planning, budgeting, proposal writing, and

    personnel management.

    Proven track record in fundraising, resource generation and allocation. Excellent written and oral communication/ presentation skills. Demonstrated knowledge of the field of international and sustainable development. Previous international work or volunteer experience (1-2 years) highly desirable. Background in engineering (e.g. previous BS degree in engineering) highly desirable.

    Compensation

    This is a full-time salaried position with benefits. Compensation is commensurate with

    appointees qualifications, subject to the constraints of a non-profit organization.
