New York, New York

New York is a wonderful city with a variety of wedding locations, this vibrant city is full of stunning venues, beautiful open spaces and bright lights, the perfect choice for today’s modern couple looking to get married abroad.

With scenes from the big screen round every corner and some of the most famous buildings in the world, New York will be at the top of many people’s lists and rightly so.

The Legalities The legalities of getting married in New York are quite simple and to obtain a marriage licence you will only need your passports. However, if you have previously been married then you will need a Decree Absolute to prove your divorce; and if either of you have changed your name by deed poll then the appropriate documents must be presented at the local courthouse.

There are no residency requirements for New York but the license, which we will assist you in applying for, must be obtained a minimum of twenty­four hours before you wish your ceremony to take place and it must be signed in the presence of the city or town clerk. This license is valid for sixty days.

Where can you get married A New York State marriage licence allows you to get married anywhere in central New York. You do not have to have a particular type of ceremony but you must ensure that you have at least one witness and we will ensure that the wedding is carried out by an authorised member of the clergy or a public official performs the ceremony.

You can have can have a religious or a civil ceremony in New York and if you choose religious ceremony we can recommend a Church which welcomes couples of all faiths and has many venues nearby that would be suitable for your reception, be it large or small, traditional or informal.

Exclusive use of an 1849 synagogue This neo­gothic building in East Village, was designed as a synagogue in 1849 by Berlin architect Alexander Seltzer. The stained glass windows and other ornate details often found in churches and synagogues give a sense of closeness and gives you the canvas to create the wedding that you want. You can hire the venue for the whole day, or alternatively have your wedding in the morning for a much lower cost. A popular location that has been the chosen site for celebrity nuptials!

Stunning Ballrooms & Outdoor Ceremony in a Garden Setting This wonderful location has a spacious marble lobby adorned with dazzling Baccarat chandeliers. The ballroom, fourteen stories high, presents breathtaking views of the New York skyline and Central Park.

The private suites on the Ballroom level offer floor­to­ceiling windows, sunken dance floors, and dining rooms with service and amenities that rival a five star hotel. The Penthouse suite features an outdoor reception chapel area in a garden setting. On the well­ manicured grounds there is a large gazebo, perfect for photos.

Central Park

A very famous park – where better than to celebrate your marriage? Hidden within Central Park ­ one of the lesser­known wonders is the Conservatory Garden. A secluded oasis, just a few steps down from one of the City’s busiest thoroughfares; the garden offers a fragrant respite from the gasp and clatter of the urban afternoon and will offer you a perfect setting for a memorable ceremony

Divided into three smaller gardens that each exhibit their own character and charm the Conservatory Garden features an extensive collection of flowers and shrubs that are in bloom from early spring to late fall, it even has its own ‘secret garden’.

Bethesda Terrace

The richly­ornamented Bethesda Terrace overlooks the Lake and as well as the wooded shores of the Ramble. Traditionally the 'Heart of the Park' Bethesda Terrace is one of the best places in the Park for people­watching. The split level Terrace also features elaborate ornamentation designed by Jacob Wrey Mould. This includes the two stone staircases that lead from the upper level to the Bethesda Fountain plaza and the Minton tiles that line the arcade ceiling.

Shakespeare’s Garden

Alternatively, also in Central Park, is Shakespeare’s Garden this hidden gem first came into existence in 1913. Known as the Garden of the Heart it was patterned after Victorian era rock gardens. Then, in 1916, it was rechristened in honour of Shakespeare's death and only plants mentioned in his plays were planted there.

These fragrant flowers provide a wonderful backdrop to your wedding.

Ladies’ Pavilion This beautiful cast iron pavilion began its life as a trolley shelter! A shelter for those people wanting protection from the elements whilst waiting for the trolley transportation to take them home, similar to the tram system that is still used in the North of this country. This shelter formerly sat at 8 th Avenue and 59 th Street and was moved into its current position 1912 and what a fabulous position it is. You are able to have your ceremony inside what is now known as the Ladies’ Pavilion.

This location suits weddings held at any time of the year because of the shelter it provides.

Church Weddings This centrally located church welcomes couples of all faiths and they are happy to marry couples where the Bride and Groom are of differing faiths, tailoring a ceremony that will affirm both of your beliefs. The Church has two areas that will be suitable for your ceremony, for smaller intimate weddings the Chapel is well suited, and larger ceremonies can take place in the Sanctuary.

The Church also boasts a beautiful garden perfect for photographs and several rooms that would be suitable for a reception, seating between forty and two hundred people.

Another alternative is a wonderful church situated on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. It is modelled after the 13th Century gothic cathedral in Chartres, France. Construction began in 1927 with the first service held on October 5, 1930. Again, this Church is an open and affirming Christian church with extensive experience uniting interfaith, heterosexual and same­sex couples.

The traditional elegance of the beautiful architecture, and stunning views provides a very unique and memorable wedding location, sitting on the heights of the historic Upper West Side of Manhattan overlooking the Hudson River.

The Church offers 3 areas for you to choose from, the traditional Nave, which is the main worship area with stained glass windows, a smaller intimate Chapel styled on the eleventh century Romanesque nave of the fortress church of St. Nazaire at Carcassonne or a smaller less public and more intimate setting, then the Meditation Chapel may be ideal for your occasion

Our local representative will meet with you prior to your wedding at your Hotel, and go through all your arrangements, we’ll also be there on your wedding day for your wedding ceremony and can be your witness if required.
