Hook & Context Setting
Introduction to the Unit of Inquiry
AI is a form of intelligence; a type of technology and a field of study.
AI theory and development of computer systems (both machines and software) are able to perform tasks
that normally require human intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence covers a broad range of domains and applications and is expected to impact every
field in the future.
Overall, its core idea is building machines and algorithms which are capable of performing computational
tasks that would otherwise require human like brain functions.

Historical Context
The history of Artificial Intelligence (AI) began in antiquity, with myths, stories and rumors of artificial
beings endowed with intelligence or consciousness by master craftsmen. The seeds of modern AI were
planted by classical philosophers who attempted to describe the process of human thinking as the
mechanical manipulation of symbols. This work culminated in the invention of the programmable digital
computer in the 1940s, a machine based on the abstract essence of mathematical reasoning. This device and
the ideas behind it inspired a handful of scientists to begin seriously discussing the possibility of building
an electronic brain.

Learning Outcomes
The students will be able to:
• Identify and appreciate Artificial Intelligence and describe its applications in daily life
• Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence
• Identify and interact with the three domains of AI: Data, Computer Vision and Natural Language
Processing
• Understand the impact of Artificial Intelligence on Sustainable Development Goals to develop
responsible citizenship
• Understand and reflect on the ethical issues around AI
Unpacking of UI:
Your journey begins with unpacking of UI in bridge session 1 which includes introduction to the
Artificial Intelligence, various assessments which will be conducted throughout the UI where the
facilitator will conduct a structured assessment for the qualifying knowledge.
Transaction:
You will identify the domains and appreciate the application areas of AI through gamification. You
will be given pre reading material and video links.
Mid UI review and reflection:
Somewhere around the mid of UI, mid UI review will be conducted to ensure that you do not have any
concepts where you are facing difficulty. It will also help you to identify those parts where you might
need more attention and support.
End of UI:
At the conclusion of the UI, an assessment of learning will be conducted. Following the end of UI
assessment, whole class reflection will be conducted where you get to know your achievements and
challenges that you have faced in this unit. The facilitator will design with you further plans which
will help you to work on your strengths in building the concepts around this particular unit. The
individual discussion that you will have with your facilitator will become your assessment dialog and
the plans that you will create will be a part of your personalized learning pathway.

Session Flow - Key Milestones
Session 1: Introductory session on AI:
Video links will be provided to you as viewing material to arouse curiosity to connect you from known to
unknown. These videos will set the pace for the further enquiry. The expected learning outcomes of the UI
and the modes of assessment will be shared. Kahoot Quiz will be played to ignite curiosity and check
readiness for the subject. Link of the quiz will be shared in the Lab.

Session 2: Designing Dream Home Floor Plan
In the session, you will design a layout of floor plan of your dream smart home. You will use Story Speaker
to write an interactive story around it.

Session 3 + 4: AI and its Domains
In the session, you will relate, apply and reflect on the Human-Machine interactions. You will identify three
domains of AI through gamification.

Game Descriptions:
Rock, Paper & Scissors: A game based on Data for AI where the machine tries to predict the next move of
the participant. It is a replica of basic rock, paper and scissors game where the machine tries to win ahead
by learning from the participant’s previous moves.
Mystery Animal: A game based on Natural Language Processing where the participant has to guess the
animal by asking maximum 20 questions to AI. The animal randomly gets selected for each game by AI
and the machine replies in either yes or no.
Emoji Scavenger Hunt: A game based on Computer Vision where the machine initiates the game by
showing an emoji. The participant is expected to show a similar object in-front of the camera while the
machine keeps on guessing what is being shown to it.
Session 5: Smart Cities, Schools and Home
Video session: You will watch video introducing the concept of Smart Cities, Smart Schools and Smart
Homes. You will relate to application of AI in daily lives.

Session 7+8: AI Possibilities
Case Study and Group Discussion: You will listen to various case studies of inspiring start-ups, companies
or communities where AI has been involved in real life.
You will be allotted a theme (Education / Health / Transport / Communication / Entertainment / Agriculture
/ Infrastructure) around which you need to search for present AI trends and have to visualize the future of
AI in and around your respective theme.
Session 9: Ethical Concerns
Balloon Debate
In this session, you will play the role of major stakeholders and will be divided into teams of 3 and 2 teams
are given same theme. One team will go in affirmation to AI for their section while the other one goes
against it.
