Bienvenidos El Softbol Argentino les da la bienvenida al IX Campeonato Mundial Masculino Juvenil ISF que se disputaraacute en la ciudad de Paranaacute Entre Riacuteos entre el 1 y el 10 de noviembre de 2012 Por primera vez en la historia un Campeonato Mundial Masculino de Softbol se disputaraacute en Sudameacuterica y la ciudad de Paranaacute seraacute la sede de este histoacuterico evento

Desde su designacioacuten como sede del IX Campeonato Mundial Masculino Juvenil ISF Paranaacute ha estado trabajando incansablemente para recibir en su casa al Softbol Mundial Esta ciudad capital de la provincia de Entre Riacuteos vive y respira Softbol Y todos aquellos que la visiten en noviembre proacuteximo conoceraacuten de primera mano la pasioacuten que se vive por este deporte y se llevaraacuten sin dudas un recuerdo imborrable de la calidez y hospitalidad de su gente

Argentina tiene una amplia tradicioacuten en campeonatos mundiales de esta categoriacutea ya que ha participado en siete de los ocho torneos Mascuilno Juvenil disputados hasta el momento Su mejor actuacioacuten fue en 1997 cuando alcanzoacute el cuarto puesto en St Johns Canadaacute Quince antildeos maacutes tarde Argentina buscaraacute no solo mejorar este resultado sino ademaacutes deslumbrar al mundo con la organizacioacuten de un Campeonato Mundial para el recuerdo

Welcome Softball Argentina welcomes you to the IX ISF Junior Menrsquos World Championship which will take place in Paranaacute City Entre Rios from November 1 to November 10 For the first time in Softball history a Junior Menrsquos World Championship will be played in South America and Paranaacute city will host this historic event

Since its designation as host city of the IX ISF Junior Menrsquos World Championship Paranaacute has been working tirelessly to receive the Softball World in its house This city lives and breathes softball And all those who visit us in November will know first-hand the passion that exists for our sport and no doubt will have a lasting memory of the warmth and hospitality of its people

Argentina has a long tradition in junior menrsquos international competition and has participated in seven of the eight ISF Junior Menrsquos World Championship played so far Argentinarsquos best performance was in 1997 when we reached the fourth place in St Johns Canada Fifteen years later Argentina will seek not only to improve this result but also dazzle the world with the organization of a World Championship to remember

Masculino Juvenil ISF Conozca la ciudad que durante diez diacuteas del 1 al 10 de

noviembre seraacute el hogar del mundo del Softbol

The history of the Argentine Junior National Team to represent our country in the IX ISFacutes Junior World Championship has almost three years A long preparation period included scouting players all around our country countless training hours and two international trips all of it under the command of a Coaching Staff who led this process with extreme professionalism standing tall to the responsibility of representing Argentina in the

un profesionalismo extremo haciendo frente a la responsabilidad de representar a la Argentina en el primer Campeonato Mundial que se disputaraacute en nuestro paiacutes

Este proceso de trabajo se dividioacute en tres etapas bien definidas cada una de ellas con un objetivo particular En primer lugar se llevoacute a cabo la ldquoDeteccioacuten de Talentosrdquo luego vino la etapa de ldquoPreparacioacuten del Deportistardquo y finalmente se llegoacute al periacuteodo de conformacioacuten del ldquoEquipo Nacionalrdquo

Salir a la ruta recorrer el paiacutes

Desde el 6 de febrero hasta el 17 abril de 2010 se llevoacute a cabo la etapa denominada ldquoDeteccioacuten de Talentosrdquo en donde el Cuerpo Teacutecnico de la Seleccioacuten Argentina Juvenil evaluoacute con una serie de pruebas fiacutesicas y teacutecnicas a todos los jugadores de Softbol del paiacutes nacidos entre los antildeos 1993 y 1996 En el transcurso de esta etapa el Cuerpo Teacutecnico recorrioacute un total de 9688 kiloacutemetros visitando un total de 13 ciudades yo localidades y se trabajoacute por un total de 54 horas durante los ocho fines de semana que duroacute la deteccioacuten de talentos Las ciudades visitadas fueron Santiago de Estero Tucumaacuten Paranaacute Bahiacutea Blanca Olavarriacutea Lincoln Santa Rosa (La Pampa) Campana Berazategui La Plata Capital Federal (Moroacuten Ituzaingo y Tigre) Mendoza San Antonio de Areco y Villa Clara Durante este periacuteodo se evaluoacute a un total de 263 chicos de los cuales fueron seleccionados 122 jugadores en base a los ejercicios realizados

Para la siguiente etapa se dividioacute el paiacutes en tres zonas para realizar las concentraciones especiacuteficas en cada una de ellas que comenzaron el 29 de mayo y se extendieron hasta el 12 de septiembre

Las zonas fueron

bull Zona 1 Olavarriacutea Bahiacutea Blanca La Pampa y Mendoza

bull Zona 2 Salta Santiago del Estero Tucumaacuten Paranaacute Villa Clara

bull Zona 3 Campana San Antonio de Areco Pilar Berazategui Brandsen La Plata Moroacuten y Lincoln

Luego de la serie de concentraciones en cada una de las zonas el grupo de jugadores se redujo a 63 joacutevenes procedentes de 13 ciudades que participaron en la proacutexima etapa del proceso denominada ldquoPreparacioacuten

From February the 6th to April the 17th 2010 it took place the stage known as ldquoTalent Detectionrdquo in which the Coaching Staff of the Argentine Junior National Team evaluated with a series of physical and technical tests all of the softball players in the entire country born between 1993 and 1996 During this stage the Coaching Staff traveled a total of 9688 kilometers visiting a total of 13 cities andor towns and worked a total of 540 hours during the 8 weekends the talent detection lasted The cities that were visited are Santiago del Estero Tucumaacuten Paranaacute Bahiacutea Blanca Olavarriacutea Lincoln Santa Rosa (La Pampa) Campana Berazategui LaPlata Capital Federal (Moroacuten Ituzaingoacute and Tigre) Mendoza San Antonio de Areco and Villa Clara During this period of time a total of 263 kids were evaluated of which 122 players were selected based on their performance

For the next stage the country was divided into three zones to be able to make specific training camps in each of them this training camps started on May the 29th and ended on September the 12th

The zones were

bull Zone 1 Olavarriacutea Bahiacutea Blanca La Pampa and Mendoza

bull Zone 2 Salta Santiago del Estero Tucumaacuten Paranaacute and Villa Clara

del Deportistardquo Esta etapa tuvo como finalidad principal evaluar a los jugadores en situaciones competitivas con la intencioacuten de encontrar a los mejores exponentes Para ello se inicioacute la etapa con una concentracioacuten que tuvo el formato de torneo lo que permitioacute al Cuerpo Teacutecnico evaluar a los jugadores en situacioacuten de competencia para luego dividir al grupo general en dos subgrupos de acuerdo al nivel mostrado en este torneo Por un lado quedoacute el Equipo Nacional formado por aquellos joacutevenes que seguacuten el criterio del cuerpo teacutecnico estaban en ese momento en condiciones oacuteptimas para enfrentar un nivel maacutes alto de competencia y entrenamiento Y por el otro se formoacute el Grupo Desarrollo con los chicos que por alguacuten motivo no alcanzaban el nivel de los chicos del Equipo Nacional pero se consideraba que en el transcurso de un antildeo podriacutean alcanzarlo

Un 2011 cargado de actividad

Bajo esta situacioacuten el Equipo Nacional Juvenil encaroacute el antildeo 2011 con una intensa actividad ya que entre otras competencias a nivel nacional el equipo se fue de gira a Estados Unidos y Canadaacute y ademaacutes disputoacute el 4deg Torneo Internacional ldquoCiudad de Paranaacuterdquo

bull Zone 3 Campana San Antonio de Areco Pilar Berazategui Brandsen La Plata Moroacuten and Lincoln

After a series of training camps in each of the zones the group of players was reduced to 63 young men from 13 different cities who then participated in the next processacute stage called ldquoPlayer Preparationrdquo The goal of this stage was to evaluate the players in competitive situations aiming to find the best of them For that matter the stage began with a training camp which was held as a tournament allowing the Coaching Staff to evaluate their players in a competitive environment to then divide the group into two subgroups according to the level shown in that tournament On the one hand there was the ldquoNational Teamrdquo conformed by those young man that according to the Coaching Staff were at that time in optimal conditions to face the higher competition and training level And on the other hand the ldquoDevelopment Grouprdquo was conformed with those players that for whatever reason did not reach the level of the players in the National Team but it was thought that they could reach it within a year

A 2011 full of activity

Under this situation the Junior National Team started

En primera instancia gracias al apoyo del Ente Nacional de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo (ENARD) Argentina llevoacute a cabo una gira preparatoria por Estados Unidos y Canadaacute disputando torneos con equipos profesionales de categoriacutea Mayores El primero de ellos fue el Boys of Summer donde nuestro equipo disputoacute por tres encuentros con derrotas en cada uno de ellos por 18-2 con The Bar of Appleton 7-2 con Kegel y 7-2 con Saskatoon Diamondbacks De este modo Argentina no pudo clasificar a los playoffs del torneo

De ahiacute nuestro seleccionado se trasladoacute a territorio canadiense maacutes precisamente a Kitchener Ontario donde jugoacute el Tavistockrsquos Cephas Roth Memorial Tournament Alliacute Argentina cayoacute en cuartos de final luego de ser superado por Midland Explorers por 2-0 En la fase de grupos Argentina enfrentoacute a Jarvis Travellers equipo nuacutemero 1 del mundo y que en agosto de ese mismo antildeo se consagroacute campeoacuten del ISC World Tournament el evento maacutes importante del mundo

Cabe mencionar que entre uno y otro torneo la Seleccioacuten Argentina Juvenil disputoacute una muy buena cantidad de partidos amistosos lo que sirvioacute al Cuerpo Teacutecnico para medir el nivel de los jugadores y para realizar una gran experiencia de convivencia

Finalmente los chicos de la Juvenil tambieacuten jugaron el 4deg Torneo Internacional ldquoCiudad de Paranaacuterdquo que contoacute con la participacioacuten de Australia (campeoacuten mundial) Repuacuteblica Checa (campeoacuten europeo) Argentina y un combinado de Paranaacute

the year 2011 with intense activity since amongst other national competitions the team traveled to the United States of America and Canada and also played in the 4th International Tournament ldquoCiudad de Paranaacuterdquo

First and foremost thanks to the support brought by the Ente Nacional de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo- ENARD (High Performance Sports Argentine National Body) Argentina traveled to a preparation tour to the United States of America and Canada competing in tournaments against mayor professional teams The first of them was the Boys of Summer championship in which our team played three games losing all of them by 18-2 to The Bar of Appleton 7-2 to Kegel and another 7-2 to Saskatoon Diamonbacks And with those results our team could notmake it to the playoffs

From there our National Team traveled to the Canadian territory precisely to Kitchener Ontario where they played in the Tavistockacutes Cephas Roth Memorial Tournament There Argentina fell in the quarterfinals to Midland Explorers 2-0 In the round robin stage Argentina faced Jarvis Travelers the number one team in the world which later that year won the ISC World Tournament the biggest menacutes fastpitch tournament in the world

It is good to mention that between the first and the second tournament the Junior National Team disputed a good deal of exhibition games which was useful to the Coaching Staff to measure the playeracutes performance and to have a great experience living together

En el primer torneo disputado luego de un triple empate entre Paranaacute Sub 23 Australia y Argentina los dos seleccionados nacionales se quedaron con las primeras plazas relegando al equipo local al tercer puesto En el juego por el maacuteximo galardoacuten australianos y argentinos brindaron un excelente nivel de juego dando vida a un apasionante partido final Los locales lograron adelantarse en el marcador pero los campeones mundiales respondieron con dos carreras raacutepidamente para dejar el parcial a su favor por 2-1 Sin embargo en el epiacutelogo del juego Romaacuten Godoy se alzoacute con toda la gloria para conectar un soberbio Grand Slam y desatar toda la alegriacutea del equipo nacional y la hinchada presente

Por su parte en el segundo certamen disputado Argentina se quedoacute afuera de la final por diferencia de carreras frente al equipo Sub23 de Paranaacute En el juego decisivo Australia se quedoacute con el torneo con victoria frente a Paranaacute por 5-1

De este modo Argentina ingresoacute al antildeo 2012 con un gran rodaje previo con muchas horas de trabajo esfuerzo y entrenamiento habiendo enfrentado a los mejores softbolistas del mundo y con el IX Campeonato Mundial Masculino Juvenil ISF a la vista La recta final de la preparacioacuten comenzaba

Finally the young men in the Junior Team also played the 4th International Tournament ldquoCiudad de Paranaacuterdquo (City of Paranaacute) that counted with the presence of Australia (last ISFacutes World Champion) Czech Republic (last European Champion) Argentina and a combined team from Paranaacute

On the first tournament played and after a three-way tie between Paranaacute Under23 Australia and Argentina the two National Teams kept the first two places In the championship game Aussies and Argentines showed the crowd and excellent level of softball playing a passionate last game The locals quickly took the lead but the last world champions came back with two runs to regain the partial lead 2-1 However in the epilogue of the game Romaacuten Godoy took the glory in his bat hitting a mighty Grand Slam unleashing the frenzy of his teammates and the crowd

In the second tournament played Argentina lost his pass to the semis by run average against Paranaacute Under23 In the final game Australia beat Paranaacute Under23 by 5-1

This way Argentina entered 2012 with a great experience with a lot of work effort and training having faced the best softball players of the world and with the IX ISF Junior Menrsquos World Championship in sight The final stage of the preparation began

Argentina Masculina Juvenil Con esta decisioacuten se iniciaba un largo proceso de preparacioacuten de casi tres antildeos que

culminaraacute en el IX Campeonato Mundial ISF de la categoriacutea

A pocos diacuteas del inicio del Mundial nos juntamos con Mariano para hablar sobre el sobre el proceso sobre el equipo y sobre sus impresiones de cara al evento maacutes importante de la historia de nuestro Softbol

- Contanos resumidamente coacutemo fue el proceso de esta seleccioacuten

- Trabajamos durante 23 meses bajo una planificacioacuten que tenia como ejes centrales ir de lo simple a lo complejo y de lo individual a lo grupal Realizamos 27 concentraciones incluyendo 8 competencia nacionales a nivel mayor dos giras internacionales una competencia internacional como local y participamos como equipo en una temporada completa en el torneo de mayores de la APS llegando asiacute a un total de 125 juegos de preparacioacuten para la competencia fundamental

-Si pudieras empezar de nuevo el proceso iquestqueacute modificariacuteas

- Seguramente el punto a revisar estariacutea en el periodo de la planificacioacuten que llamamos preparacioacuten del deportista ya que no logramos alcanzar el nivel esperado en los talentos detectados en todo el paiacutes que no se encontraban en los centros mas desarrollados softbolisticamente

- Como calificariacuteas la preparacioacuten del equipo para el Mundial

- Entiendo que el veredicto final del trabajo esta supeditado al resultado que tenga el equipo en el

appointment of Mariano Spotorno ahead of the Argentina Junior Menrsquos National

Team This decision began a long process of preparation of almost three years culminating in the in the IX ISF World

Championships Paranaacute 2012

With only a few days left for the start of the World Championship we met with Mariano to talk about the process about the team and about his impressions facing the most important event in the history of Argentine Softball

- Tell us briefly about the process of this team

- We worked during 23 months under a plan with a central idea go from simple to complex and from the individual to the group We made 27 training campus including 8 national competition with Open teams two international tours one international tournament here in Argentina and played as a team in a full season in the biggest tournament of the Parana Softball Association (APS) reaching a total of 125 preparation games for the main challenge

-If you could start over the process what would you change

the ISC World Tournament and won the title in the ISC Under 21

Entre el 31 de julio y el 22 de agosto la Seleccioacuten Argentina se fue de gira a los Estados Unidos como parte de su preparacioacuten para el proacuteximo Campeonato Mundial Durante este viaje el equipo nacional disputoacute cinco partidos de exhibicioacuten y tres torneos incluyendo el ISC World Tournament el evento softboliacutestico de clubes maacutes importante del mundo

La primera escala de la Seleccioacuten fue la ciudad de Erie Pennsilvanya donde Argentina teniacutea pautados los primeros compromisos de la gira El diacutea 2 de agosto la Seleccioacuten disputoacute un juego exhibicioacuten ante Erie Budweiser All Star y cayoacute por 4-2 A partir del diacutea 3 comenzoacute el Ed McCormick Hall of Fame Tournament con la presencia de los ocho mejores equipos del planeta Alliacute formoacute parte del grupo con NY Gremnlins Midland Explorers PA Powers (equipo de Lucas Mata) y los KW Cubs

En el primer partido del torneo Argentina enfrentoacute a Midland Explorers nuacutemero 6 del raacutenking mundial perdiendo por 6-3 en ocho entradasLos siete periacuteodos reglamentarios terminaron con el resultado empatado 3-3 con lo que fue necesario un periacuteodo extra para desempatar el juego y alliacute Midland anotoacute tres carreras para poner el juego de su lado Por Argentina Huemul Mata abrioacute el juego lanzando 5 entradas y 13 recibiendo el relevo de Pablo Masmuacute (23 IP) Franco Gini (1 IP) y Martiacuten Gonzaacutelez que lanzoacute el octavo periacuteodo y cargoacute con la derrota

Para el segundo partido Argentina se enfrentoacute al equipo nuacutemero 1 del ranking de cara al ISC World Tournament de la semana que viene (del que Argentina tomaraacute parte) los New York Gremlins y cayoacute derrotado por marcador de 4-0 Por los Gremlins abrioacute el juego un viejo conocido de nuestro equipo el argentino Juan Potolicchio quien fue contratado para lanzar por este equipo durante este fin de semana

El equipo nacional jugoacute de igual a igual contra uno de los mejores equipos del mundo y no pudo doblegar a un conjunto que debioacute trabajar para alzarse con la victoria El equipo argentino tuvo una buena actuacioacuten sorprendiendo a los presentes con su nivel de juego Tan es asiacute que Al Doran legendario cronista del Softbol Norteamericano dijo estar ldquomuy impresionado con el juego de la Seleccioacuten Juvenil de Argentina que llevaron el juego frente a Midland 3-3 en el seacuteptimo inning y obligaron a un octavo para que Midland los pueda vencerrdquo

Between 31 July and 22 August Argentina went on tour to the United States as part of their preparation for the upcoming World Championships During this trip our National Team played five exhibition games and three tournaments including the ISC World Tournament the most important club Fastpitch event in the world

The first stop was the city of Erie Pennsilvanya where Argentina had arranged the first games of the tour On August 2 the team played an exhibition against Erie Budweiser All Star and lost 4-2 The next day began the Ed McCormick Hall of Fame Tournament with the presence of the eight best teams in the world Argentina was included in the group with NY Gremnlins Midland Explorers PA Powers (the team of Argentina Lucas Mata) and KW Cubs

A partir de alliacute y hasta el diacutea 10 de agosto el Equipo Nacional comenzoacute la travesiacutea por distintas ciudades del paiacutes del norte realizando juegos amistosos El 7 de agosto se presentoacute en Coldwater (Michigan) Jugoacute un doble jugo ante All Star Coldwater Ligthing con victoria de 4-1 y los Aces Coldwater por 9-3 Al diacutea siguiente viajoacute hasta Munger ciudad conocida por el softbol nacional donde se han hecho presente en varias oportunidades nuestros seleccionados y tambieacuten realizoacute un doble juego exhibicioacuten ante el combinado local Munger Fastpitch y nuevamente consiguioacute resultados positivos por 6-1 y 4-0 De alliacute partioacute a Port Huron en el liacutemite con Canadaacute pero la lluvia impidioacute disputar los compromisos con los seleccionados locales

De esta manera el diacutea 10 Argentina se hizo presente en Midland para disputar los dos uacuteltimos torneos planificados en la gira el ISC World Tournament y el ISC U21

La Seleccioacuten Argentina debutoacute con un histoacuterico triunfo en el ISC World Tournament al superar a Tiffanyrsquos of Frankenmuth por 5-1 en lo que marcoacute el debut absoluto de un equipo argentino en este torneo Las notas maacutes destacadas del conjunto nacional vinieron por el lado de Francisco Lombardo y Huemul Mata quienes conectaron sendos cuadrangulares y lideraron la ofensiva albiceleste Ademaacutes Mata fue el lanzador ganador con 8 strikeouts 3 base por bolas y un solo hit permitido

De esta manera Argentina continuariacutea por la llave de ganadores del ISC World Tournament hasta el partido de la noche que lo puso cara a cara con NY Gremlins el equipo nuacutemero 1 del mundo que contaba entre sus jugadores con estrellas de la talla del australiano Andrew Kirkpatrick o los neozelandeses Pat Shannon y Travis Wilson Y los Gremlins hicieron valer los pronoacutesticos debutando con una contundente

Argentina made his debut with a historic triumph at the ISC World Tournament beating Tiffanyrsquos of Frankenmuth 5-1 in a game that was the absolute debut of an Argentine team in this tournament The highlights of the national side came by Francisco Lombardo and Huemul Mata who homered and led the offensive

Ese diacutea llegoacute y Argentina tuvo una doble presentacioacuten midieacutendose ante New Dundee Stratfford Cubs con victoria de 3-1 y Walkerton Wild venciendo 9-1 La tercera presentacioacuten fue con Owend Sound Jr Selected con victoria de 5-3 El uacuteltimo compromiso del grupo fue ante Straffordville noquenado 7-0 Esto le permitioacute liderar el grupo y pasar al play off En el primer cruce su rival fue Alvinston y se despachoacute con otro 7-0 accediendo a las semifinales del torneo Strafford no pudo ante el poderiacuteo ofensivo nacional y el contundente pitcheo y obtiene el tercer KO del diacutea con un 7-0

La final iba a tener a quien habia sido su rival maacutes complicado en la llave de grupo Owen Sound Jr Selected y de la misma manera se presento este juego pero con el prolijo trabajo desde el circulo de pitcheo de Pablo Masmu encaminoacute al Equipo Nacional a la victoria y a levantar la copa de campeoacuten

En los premios individuales Argentina tuvo presencia importante El torneo dejoacute justamente a Pablo Masmu como el mejor lanzador a Federico Olheiser como el mayor impulsador de carreras y a Juan Zara como mejor infielder

De esta manera llegoacute a su fin la uacuteltima gran cita internacional previa al Campeonato Mundial Luego de 22 diacuteas en Estados Unidos enfrentando a los mejores jugadores y equipos del mundo el equipo dirigido por Mariano Spotorno volvioacute a nuestro paiacutes sabiendo que se enfrentaron al maacuteximo nivel de exigencia Solo restaba seguir entrenando y llegar al mes de noviembre de la mejor manera buscando llegar a lo maacutes alto en Paranaacute 2012

Ten years ago Pablo found Softball through a Sports School where they played different sports A decade later he will be playing an ISF Junior Menrsquos World Championship

He toured with the Argentina in 2011 and 2012 In the latter he played in the ISC World Tournament where he pitched four innings allowing 5 runs and 8 hits for 875 ERA

Days later he got the title in the ISC World Tournament U21 where he was also named Best Pitcher of the Tournament getting four wins and no losses The most important of these victories was in the final game where he pitched 42 innings allowing only three hits and striking out eight opponents

He also participated in the International Tournament in 2011 with Team Paranaacute In the first tournament he won 1 game and lost 1 with 477 ERA in 71 innings Meanwhile in the second tournament he worked 142 innings striking out 16 and receiving eight earned runs for 382 ERA In this event Paranaacute was runner up of Australia

Besides playing Softball Masmuacute likes to study and practice electronics ldquoI think these three years of preparation will lead us to success in the World Championship I feel much happiness responsibility and pride in representing Argentinardquo

ldquoMemurdquo takes softball in the blood His parents uncles and aunts cousins and brothers played or are still playing several of them in National Teams He will be playing his first Junior World Championship at age sixteen and will be eligible to play the next one

This year he was one of hte three pitchers Argentina played in the ISC World Tournament In 51 innings he allowed 5ER for a 656ERA He also became a champion of the ISC 21 and under pitching 21 innings relieving the gameallowing just one hit and striking out four

In 2011 he played the International Tournaments with Team Argentina In the first of them he collected a win with a 225ERA in 91 innings pitched He also had 16K 2BB 6 hits and 3ER

For the second tournament his number were even better since he won two games pitching 112 innings and allowing just one earned run His ERA was an oustanding 060 with 16K and just 1BB
