Dear Members and Friends of HSK, Earlier this week I was thinking about the opinion of most Christians about Sunday services at their church. I often hear these words, ‘It was a good meeting.’ But when I ask about what the Christian heard the pastor say, the Christian can’t remember. It seems to me that if the meeting was good, surely that Christian heard something that made their faith increase or the Christian better understood what God was doing in a problem, right? But I think that too often ‘It was good’ means that the chair was comfortable and the room temperature was just right and the music was entertaining. At HSK, I guess someone thinks that most meetings are ‘good’ but I do not seek to make each meeting ‘good’. I genuinely hope that each meeting is somehow life changing! As most of you know, later this week the annual May festival will begin in our city. Perhaps most Hamamatsu citizens believe that this is the week for watching kites soaring over the beach and following the festival wagons being pulled through the streets. And then there is the chance for becoming intoxicated with free liquor. I think that there are many kinds of pleasure which can make friendships stronger and refresh our minds. But this festival tempts everyone to become unrestrained…to seek pleasure which is harmful. Let us be bold in speaking to our friends about the joy which comes from heaven.

Many times I have talked about prayer and how we must be praying Christians. But I sense a warning about prayer is necessary. What warning? Be careful of making prayer a ‘proper activity’! Why? Proper prayers tend to be full of ideas about the wise things we have done and the success we have had at our job and how well behaved we act in front of others. Don’t pray that way! Prayer has always been a plea for help from Heaven…a request for deliverance from a big problem…a cry. And most important, prayer has been a display of faith. Let’s pray with passion this week and not have a discussion with God! Tomorrow, Ruth-san and I will visit a little part of our family in Gifu Prefecture. It will be a one day trip which I hope will not be spent stalled for a long time on a crowded highway. And then on Saturday, we hope to eat delicious hot dogs with many of you. Let’s not stay at home during these holidays watching TV all day. Let’s fellowship with lots of joy. Come to the BBQ this Saturday. If you are visiting our church for the first time today, we are so glad you have come. Please stay and eat lunch with us. The lunch is free for all visitors who have attended HSK for the fist time this month. May the Lord bless you this week!!! Your pastor…..Ben

‘Defining ourselves by the Word of God requires that we constantly train our minds to think in agreement with that Word. This means that we have to remind ourselves of His promises often. But don’t stop there! Learn to meditate on them. Like Mary, we must treasure them up and ponder them in our hearts (Luke 2:19). While Eastern meditation tries to get people to empty their minds, biblical meditation focuses on filling our minds—and our mouths—with the truth. Joshua 1:8 says, “The book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” One of the definitions for the word “meditate” is to “mutter”. Meditating involves repeating the words God has said out loud. As Joshua was told, this regular repetition of what God has said is the key to our ability to do the Word. When we

declare the Word over our own life and prophesy our own destiny in agreement with Him, we release the anointing of the Spirit in a greater measure to bring the Word to pass. The verse says that when we do this, we are actually making our way prosperous. Meditating on the promises of God is something we can do and are responsible to do in order to determine where we are gong in life; it is vital tool for strengthening ourselves in the Lord so we can walk in our identity and purpose. Meditating on the promises of God will strengthen you. We represent the Kingdom of God, and our mind and body must stay current with our role and responsibilities as a delegated authority in this world. We can’t afford to have thoughts in our heads about ourselves that God doesn’t have in His. We must continually train our minds to think of ourselves according to what God says about us.’

Please continue to pray for Sakura-san’s little niece, Yuyai-chan. May she be completely healed and all the needs of the family be met.

Morita Susan-san is asking prayer for her friend, Helen-san, who has cancer and needs a miracle. Please pray for her this week.

Let’s pray for the families of those who died in the attacks in Sir Lanka. May the Lord be their comfort.

Will you pray for the children in HSK? They are so precious to the heart of the Lord. Let’s pray for them this week.

Please continue to pray for our church leaders as they seek God for wisdom in leading this church.

Once again, let’s be faithful to pray for the peace of Jerusalem as the Lord commands.

Let’s pray for our city this week. Far too many without the Lord as their Saviour.

Will you pray again about a location for our church with easy access for all. The Lord is more than able to supply this need.

Please pray for a friend of HSK, Miho-san. She is facing a difficult pregnancy and needs healing for her and the baby.

Will you remember to pray for other pastors and missionaries serving the Lord here in Japan? Some may need encourage-ment these days.

We have many visitors to our church. May they find peace in their hearts and come to know Jesus as their Saviour. ……………………………………………………………… Note: If you do not want your prayer request in the church bulletin, please mark that clearly on your prayer request card.
