MDP Announcement-7 2007-08 Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Management (September 3-8, 2007) Programme Co-ordinator: Prof. Harekrishna Misra Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is being increasingly considered as a critical infrastructure in organisations. Its role in managing business, in supporting decision making process has been recognised well. Therefore, dependenc y on ICT infrastructure and ICT enabled servi ces is also increasing exponentially. Such dependency demands a sustainable service orientation for this infrastructure in organisat ions which should be dynamic, scalable and above all the services should  be seamlessly integrated to process objectives. This seamless integration among infrastructures across functions, processes and even surpassing physical boundaries makes the scenario complex. Besides, internet technologies have paved the way for geographically independent infrastructure  providing computing power to users and transferring the load to the back-end fault tolerant and scalable ICT components. Therefore, proper planning of ICT infrastruct ure, critical identi cation, evaluation of components and their deployment demands capability among ICT service providers in the organisation. A close integration between information system infrastructure dealing with functions, processes and organisation’s strategy and ICT infrastructure acquisition strategy is also essential for garnering long term benets. In this management developme nt programme (MDP), approaches to ICT infrastructure acquisit ion would be discussed. Insights to the underlying management principles applicable for ICT infrastructure would also be covered. Objective: To help participants understand the concept, importance of ICT as infrastructure, strategic issues of acquiring ICT in an organisation, issues related to ICT planning and deployment keeping in view the strategy of the organisation. Pedagogy: The programme will be conducted through interactive lectures, discussions, and case-studies and laboratory sessions. INSTITUTE OF RURAL MANAGEMENT, ANAND
