Capitalizing on Rapid Public Wi-Fi GrowthThe public hotspot market is growing rapidly. Gartner estimates that the number of worldwide hotspots will grow from approximately 70,000 in 2003 to over 150,000 by2005. A key challenge for operators is how to quickly capitalize on this growth withoutincurring large upfront costs while building out a Wi-Fi footprint. Operators are alsofaced with the challenge of how to cost-effectively manage this network over time.

An End-to-End, Easy-to-Deploy Public WLAN Solution The iForce Wi-Fi Hotspot Appliance is the industrys most comprehensive solution for deploying public Wi-Fi networks and addresses these specific challenges. Theappliance is a complete, low-cost, easy-to-install back office appliance that enables acost-effective build out of public hotspots. Using web-based administration utility, theappliance can be quickly installed at an operators Network Operations Center (NOC).Once installed, the appliance is ready to unleash the full capabilities of the pre-loadedWi-Fi service delivery application . These capabilities include remote provisioning of hotspot controllers, authentication, access control, splash page customization, walledgarden advertisement support, pre-paid and post-paid billing, QoS controls, remotenetwork management, trouble ticketing and customer care, and roaming settlementwith major aggregators. In no time, an operator is ready to deploy a mid-sized networkof hotspots.

The iForce Wi-Fi Hotspot Appliance is licensed to work with 25, 50 or 100 hotspotcontrollers. Each hotspot controller is designed to download initial configuration andimage files from the NOC once plugged in. Absolutely no on-site configuration of thecontrollers are required, thus saving significant deployment time and costs.

Ongoing operational costs are significantly reduced, as firmware upgrades of thehotspot controllers are handled remotely, even through firewalls. The appliance alsoprovides full, remote management capability of third party access points behind thehotspot controllers.

    Highlights

Easy to Install, Easy to UseThe iForce Wi-Fi Hotspot Appliance powered bySun and Pronto Networks offers a Web-basedadmin UI for rapid, simple installation at a NetworkOperations Center (NOC).

Complete, Out-of-the-Box SolutionThe appliance is an end-to-end service deliverysolution for public hotspots, providing completeback office functionality required for remotelyprovisioning and managing public Wi-Fi networks.

Easy Deployment of Hotspots The appliance is sold with auto-provisioning hotspotcontrollers which enable quick and rapiddeployment of hotspots.

Flexible, Customizable Service Offerings Per LocationThis Appliance enables operators to customize theWi-Fi service both at the franchise and locationlevels in order to differentiate the service andmaximize revenue. Complete, Ready-To-Deploy SolutionThe iForce Wi-Fi Hotspot Appliance is apre-integrated, complete solution thatdramatically reduces time to deployment.Full, back-office functionality for managingpublic Wi-Fi hotspots is provided in a

single, easy-to-install appliance. Onceinstalled, operators are ready to createservice plans, provision hotspot controllersand deploy a medium-sized hotspotnetwork.

Web Administration Utility for Easy andRapid InstallationThe appliance comes with a webadministration utility that enables quickinstallation of the appliance at theoperators NOC. The utility is used toconfigure network interfaces , hotspotcontrollers , and web based templates. The utility is also used to start and

shutdown the application and createbackup files.

Back-office Functionality Based onProntos Carrier-Grade OSSThe appliance is based on Prontoscarrier-grade OSS platform for large scale, public WLAN networks and thus offersmany of the same robust features. Theseinclude such capabilities as remotelyprovisioning hotspot controllers, creatingflexible service plans, customizing thecaptive portal, defining QoS policies, remotely managing hotspot controllers andthird party access points, and performingremote firmware upgrades.

Remote Auto-Provisioning andManagement of Hotspot ControllersThe appliance enables operators toremotely configure hotspot controllersbefore they are shipped to the locationto enable true plug-n-play deployment.

Once connected, hotspot controllersknow to contact the operators NOC todownload configuration files meant for that location. The Appliance alsoprovides the capability of remotelyupdating the hotspot controllersfirmware on a periodic basis. Up to 100access points can be strung off eachcontroller for maximum coverage at aWiFi location.

Targeted for Mid-Sized HotspotNetworksThe appliance has been optimallydesigned to handle up to 25, 50 or 100

hotspot locations. For those operatorsplanning to deploy more than 100locations, we recommend installingProntos carrier-grade OSS softwareplatform on Suns highly scalable andreliable Netra platforms.
