FOUNDATIONS OF JUDAISM - SUNDAYS FROM 10:15 AM-12:00 PM
This month's unit is Jewish Ethics and Values. We will explore the foundations,
evolution and application of a wide range of Jewish values, and outline the
big picture of what it means to live a Jewish life. This week: we'll discuss
Bioethics. What are our key Jewish values related to bioethical issues? What is
the relationship between our values, choices and behavior? What is the Jewish
position on genetic screening, fertility treatments, birth control, abortion and
suicide? Can we take medicine that is not kosher? What organs may a living
person donate? Why does Jewish law usually frown on autopsies? Find
answers to these questions in our next class on Sunday, Feb. 1, beginning at
10:15 AM. This week's class will be taught by Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner.
HEBREW CLASS
Do you know your alef-bet, but still get lost in our Jacksonville Jewish Center (JJC) services? Our "Intermediate Service Skills" class is for you! Taught by Lois Tompkins, this class will guide you through the siddur (weekday as well as Shabbat). You'll learn more advanced reading skills, fluency, and discuss our JJC customs. Whether you want to eventually learn to lead a portion of the service, or just feel more a part of the congregation, join us on Thursday mornings at 8:30 AM (right after minyan) and on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM. Classes will be held in the Jaffe Conference Room (Adult Library).
