Jesus also said, "With what can we compare the kingdom of

God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a

mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the

smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it

grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts

forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make

nests in its shade." Mark 4:30-32

In Jesus’ day mustard plants where annoying shrubs-weeds that if

allowed to take root in a garden or field would quickly grow out of

control. They grew everywhere—even in places one would not expect

anything to grow. They grew even when people sought to get rid of them.

Just like those weeds we encounter in our gardens and sidewalks. You

know how difficult it is to dig them up—their roots can run pretty deep.

Yet Jesus compares the kingdom of God to the mustard tree. Huh?

Soooo the kingdom of God is a pain that’s hard to get rid of? Well,

maybe…for some.

Jesus came to usher in the kingdom of God. This kingdom where

justice—true justice—prevails. Where those in power are held

accountable for their actions. Where those who have been falsely accused

or victimized are freed or offered healing. Where those who are hungry

through no fault of their own are fed. Where the sick are healed. Where

the lonely and forsaken are loved. Where the grieving experience hope.

Where compassion and generosity reign.

Maybe that type of kingdom sounds threatening to some; if so, look

out. Because the kingdom of God is coming, can’t be stopped, and grows

in places we least expect.

And maybe that type of kingdom sounds beautiful to some; if so,

rejoice! For God has promised that His kingdom will come—in fact is

coming now. Everyone will experience life more fully and abundantly.

Through the cross of Jesus Christ, death in all its forms has been

defeated.

Jesus used parables to get our attention and invite us to change. God

invites us, calls us to participate in bringing about God’s kingdom of life.

As you pull weeds this summer, ask yourself where do you see God’s

kingdom happening in the community. Take a picture of it and send it to

me or print it out and drop it off in the office. Together, let’s create a

mural of images of God’s kingdom so that we all might be encouraged

and blessed.

Safe travels everyone. Happy Father’s Day to all those who offer a

Father’s love and strength.

Blessings all!

Baptism

Adults who desire to be baptized, or those who want to have their child

baptized, are invited to contact the church office. In the case of Adult

Baptism, candidates are encouraged to worship and attend the Sunday morning Bible Study.

Those who want to have their child baptized are asked to schedule a Baptism Preparation

session with Pastor Tom prior to the baptism. P.T. looks forward to talking with you! Please

speak with him if you have questions.

Saturday Morning Study

Saturday, July 14th and 28th, 8:30-10:00am

Downstairs in the Great Hall

Five hundred years ago, a little-known German monk discovered in Scripture two simple

ideas so scandalous that they set Europe aflame for centuries. The church would never be the

same. It’s not too late to attend Session 5 and 6 of this 6-session DVD series. Let’s rediscover

what Martin Luther uncovered five centuries ago—two simple ideas, so evident throughout

Scripture, the foundation of the Christian life. For additional information, contact Tammie at

[email protected] or 654-3256.

Sunday's Com'n

Each Wednesday morning at 8:30am, gather with Pastor Tom in the Gathering Space to

reflect on the scripture reading for the coming Sunday. No experience necessary. We read the

text and share how it makes us feel and the thoughts and questions it generates. It's all good!

Come and See...

All are invited to a refreshing Bible Study fellowship this summer.

Time: Tuesdays from 9:00-11:00am

Location: The Madison’s at 8204 65th Ave, Kenosha

We are welcoming all students of various Bible study experience. We will read and discuss

each week how God's truth impacts, encourages and strengthens our lives. Summer is a busy

time for everyone, so the study will be flexible for participants to attend when their schedules

allow. Please RSVP to Mary Beth Madison if you wish to be a part of this fellowship. Phone:

262-694-95245 Email: [email protected].

Mike has been awarded a $2000 grant from the Greater Milwaukee Synod to pay for the 12

month long Youth and Family Certification School through Luther Seminary. Congratulations,

Mike!

Welcome!

Please welcome Kaley Gerou to our Sunday Morning Nursery Staff. She is excited to get to

know our little members (ages 6 months to 4 years) in the nursery. Thank you Kaley for taking

Diakonia Program

The church of today needs and recognizes strong, knowledgeable leadership among the

laity. Diakonia provides systematic training to adults during a two-year program of weekly

classes in the Bible, theology, and church history as well as practical ministry. This course of

study, combined with spiritual retreats and group interaction, helps train people for the many

diverse tasks and opportunities to which Christ’s Great Commission directs them. For further

information, please contact Diane Roznowski at (414) 258-8893, go to

www.thediakoniaprogram.org, or speak to Pastor Tom.

Urban Outreach Lunch

Program

Trinity will be hosting the UOR summer

lunch program the week of July 9th– July 12th.

There is a change in the program this year.

KUSD will provide the food, but the UOR

program will need 3 to 4 volunteers, per day

from Trinity, to prepare the food and help

serve. Also the UOR program is asking

Trinity to supply a healthy afternoon snack

for 50 children and 10 adults. A signup sheet

is in the Gathering Space.

VBS

Imagine…

…a child hearing about God’s love for the first

time.

…kids worshipping in powerful ways.

…children praying for each other.

…adults and teens modeling Jesus’ love to

children.

…the kids in our church helping save lives in

the country of Mali.

Vacation Bible Study will take place at

Trinity from July 29th through August 2nd, 5:00pm–8:00pm. The theme this year is

“Everything is possible with God.” Vacation Bible Study is open to children 3 years to

entering 6th graders. Registration forms can be picked up at the church office and you can

contact Mike Van Laningham at [email protected] for more information.

It’s our goal to reach 50 kids with this program. That’s 50 kids who will grow in their

relationship with God!

There are many different ways to help out. Please prayerfully consider volunteering to

lead a station or crew for that week. You can sign up at https://www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/

ez/Tcyf or see Mike Van Laningham, Sue Torres or Misty Van Laningham.

Care for Creation

The Green Sanctuary Committee of Bradford U.U. would like to extend a

special invitation to all interested congregants. On Monday, July 9th from 7-9pm

they will be sponsoring a screening of the film "Gasland" which explores the

controversy around the process of "fracking". The following two Mondays, July 16th

and 23rd from 7-9pm they will offer a two session discussion course entitled "Powering a

Bright Future". This is a program developed by the Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI.org)

and explores issues related to energy use and what we can do to take action as individuals and

communities interested in promoting energy sustainability. There is a $10 fee for online

discussion articles. All who are interested are welcome to attend either one or both of these

programs ("Gaslight" and "Powering a Bright Future"). There is no charge for the July 9th

program. Please let Trudy Farrell know at [email protected] if you would like to

participate in either program.
