Hi there! If we talk about a superpower dominant position in the international system, we may think of America but things have changed through the time passing; presently it has changed to China, the big tiger of Asia. Inside this issue we wish to present the great power of China in several aspects such as food, habitation, costumes including ideas to the way of life.Phuket has close relation indistinguishable to Chinese cultures. The greatness of ideas involved in their way of life are profound and intimate into its ancient history for thousands years.

We often heard Phuket is land of European visitors but it’s just an external view. Actually you should take a walk along Thalang road, the old traditional area of Phuket and take a look at local people surrounding as well as their semblance, shop banners, costumes, accent of speaking or even some luxury hotels which are designed to be compatible to old Phuket houses.Phuket doesn’t possess only beautiful beaches but also precious old cultures and traditions which can describe what happened in the past to their generation and visitors to be aware of greatness of this island. You can track all stories from this issue.

สวัสดีครับทานผูอาน หากพูดถึงประเทศมหาอํานาจหลายคนคงนึกถึงอเมริกา แต..เวลาเปลี่ยน สถานที่เปลี่ยน คนก็เปลี่ยนครับ ปจจุบันนี้คิดวา อํานาจหลายๆ อยางคงเปลี่ยนมาทางแถบเอเชียไปเสียแลว ผมกําลังพูดถึงประเทศจีน นิตยสารคนภูเก็จฉบับนี้เลยขอนําเสนอถึงความยิ่งใหญในหลายๆ ดานของจีนทั้งเรื่องอาหารการกิน บานเรือน เครื่องแตงกายตลอดจน แนวคิดในการดําเนินชีวิต ภูเก็ตนับไดวาสนิทสนมจนแยกกันไมออกกับวัฒนธรรมตางๆ ของจีน ความยิ่งใหญของแนวคิดนั้นลึกซึ้งเสียเหลือเกิน หากทานไดศึกษาประวัติศาสตรชาติพันธุมังกรก็จะพบวา วิถีชีวิตแบบจีนนั้น มิไดเริ่มตนเพียงแควันนี้ แต..มันไดสั่งสมบมเพาะมาเนิ่นนานหลายๆ พันปเลยทีเดียว เรามักจะไดยินคําวาภูเก็ตเปนเมืองของฝรั่งมังคา แตนั่นผมวามันเปนเพียงผิวเทานั้นครับ ลองเดินเลนแถวถนนถลางยานเมืองเกามองดูรอบๆ ตัว รูปรางหนาตาของผูคน ปายชื่อราน เครื่องแตงกาย สําเนียงคําพูดตางๆ หรือแมกระทั่งโรงแรมระดับหรูๆ ในปจจุบันยังออกแบบใหสอดคลองกับรูปแบบบานในสมัยเกาของภูเก็ตเลยครับ ภูเก็ตไมไดมีเพียงแคทะเลสวย..แตยังมีวัฒนธรรมอันลําคาที่สามารถเลาเรื่องราวตางๆ ในอดีต ใหลูกหลานตลอดจนนักทองเที่ยวไดทราบถึงความยิ่งใหญของเกาะแหงนี้ ติดตามทั้งหมดไดในเลมนะครับ

Baba Symposium 2011วันที่ 19 กุมภาพันธ ที่ผานมา สถานที่โรงแรมภูเก็ต เมอรลิน อ.เมือง จ.ภูเก็ต ไดรับเกียรติจาก นายชวน หลีกภัย อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี มาเปนประธานในพิธีเปดงาน โดยมีคนไทยเชื้อสายจีนในภูเก็ตและจังหวัดใกลเคียงเขารวมกิจกรรม การสัมมนาไดกลาวถึงประวัติความเปนมา ชาติพันธุ และวิถีชีวิตอันเปนเอกลักษณของชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีนที่อาศัยอยูในแถบจังหวัดภาคใตฝงอันดามัน หรือชาวบาบา เพื่อใหชนรุนหลังไดเล็งเห็นความสําคัญและรวมสืบทอดประเพณี วัฒนธรรมที่ถูกตองสืบตอไป

บรรยากาศการตอนรับ นายชวน หลีกภัย อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี ซึ่งใหเกียรติมาเปนประธานในพิธีเปดงานสัมมนา ‘Baba Sympo-sium 2011’ อยางอบอุน ณ โรงแรมภูเก็ต เมอรลิน ในตัวเมืองภูเก็ต

ผานไปอีกครั้งอยางสวยสดงดงาม สําหรับ “งานตรุษจีน ยอนอดีตเมืองภูเก็ต ครั้งที่ 12” ที่ทางเทศบาลนครภูเก็ตรวมมือกับหนวยงานภาครัฐและเอกชน จัดขึ้นเปนประจําทุกป ซึ่งในครั้งนี้ตรงกับ วันที่ 8-10 กุมภาพันธ ที่ผานมา ณ สวนสาธารณะเฉลิมพระเกียรติ ๗๒ พรรษา มหาราชินี ครอบคลุมตลอดพื้นที่ยานเมืองเกาใจกลางเมืองภูเก็ต ซึ่งไดรับเสียงตอบรับจากประชาชนทั่วไปและนักทองเที่ยวจากทั่วทุกสารทิศเขาเยี่ยมชมงานอยางเนืองแนน

เปดตัวโครงการ ‘Phuket City Free Wi-Fi’เมื่อวันที่ 9 ก.พ. 54 ที่ผานมา ณ บริเวณสวนเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 72 พรรษา นางสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา นายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ต เปนประธานในพิธีเปดตัวโครงการ การใหบริการฟรีอินเตอรเน็ตไรสายความเร็วสูง TOT Wi-Fi ของเทศบาลนครภูเก็ต (Phuket City Free Wi-Fi) โดยมีเจาหนาที่ เทศบาลนครภูเก็ต และประชาชน เขารวมเปนสักชีพยาน โดยเปดใหบริการฟรีแกประชาชนใน 3 จุด ประกอบดวย บริเวณสวนเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 72 พรรษาครอบคลุมถึงซอยรมณีย และสวนสาธารณะสะพานหินจุดที่ 1 และจุดที่ 2 นางสมใจ สุวรรณศุภพนา นายกเทศมนตรีนครภูเก็ตขณะกําลังทดลองใชบริการ Phuket City Free Wi-Fi

The middle-age shop owner is friendly and is always busy with dumping the fl avourful noodles in boiling water. If you would like to try the tradition taste of Phuket noodle, you shouldn’t miss ‘Ko Yoon Noodle’.

The shop is located at Suriyadej Circle, near a fresh market. The verdurous landscape in front of the shop provides a serene ambiance. Everyday’s late morning, Ko Yoon prepares kitchen appliances and ingredients for serving his customers. The unique taste of the noodle with its palatable soup and an appetizing odor of shrimp tantalize your taste buds. Some people like dried noodles, some prefers noodle soup. Personally, I love Hokkien noodles which are chewier in texture and yellow in colour. When ordering the dried noodles, they are served hotly with a cup of soup. ‘Oh, dai raeng aok!’ (a southern dialect means ‘How good it is!’

Well, let me start the question… Do you agree if I will send my children to study aboard?Yongyut: I rather not say “should” or “shouldn’t” to do so as I think there will be more issues involved.Wirote: Are we still not assured the advantage and difference on quality of education between Phuket and aboard?Yongyut: I think they are difference with incomparable standard because each country has their own education system and curriculum applied to use with their people and

culture. So, they have advantages and disadvantages differently on their own system. If we think sending children to study aboard since young is the best enhancement for their education background and knowledge but how the little ones can live solely far away without parent? Yongyut: I think they are difference with incomparable standard because each country has their own education system and curriculum applied to use with their people and culture. Wirote: But many of those who were sent to study aboard will be un-doubtedly very good at English language.Yongyut: We should pay attention also on the subjects and curricu-lums; such as Arts, Music, Sports and Technology.Wirote: Wait wait! Ajarn! What you talk about is not education but some kinds of recreation; not the important subjects in school. We must study Math, Social Sciences, Sciences something like this should be right.Yongyut: You should look back to our ex-generation when our boss’ son was encouraged to live and study aboard. His son was back with very good knowledge background in selected fi eld and qualifi cation includ-ing excellent language skill. This means those things had planned in advance; not sudden succeed.

Wirote: So we can say the success can be advance prepared and planned by parent.Yongyut: Yes, you’re correct.Wirote: But will the children have chance to choose themselves?Yongyut: Young children don’t possess seniority or maturity enough to plan or make decision on their far future. Then the parent will take impor-tant role to choose and plan upfront for them.Wirote: How will you think of our education sys-tem when it’s free and compulsory for all.Yongyut: I didn’t refer about government schools but private school especially international or bilingual curriculum schools.

Wirote: However, I found it’s strange that Phuket’s families prefer to put their children into major schools in Municipality areas rather than schools in their neighbor. This is as a proof that general schools are not in the same level of quality and standard.Yongyut: Exactly it’s individual belief of parent.Wirote: You said it’s just a belief?Yongyut: The government has been trying to make us rely all schools are the same on quality but as I said from the beginning we all want to choose the best thing for our children. Imagine how our education will develop in the next 20 years ahead. Will the new born today be educat-ed as good as being aboard or in expensive private schools?

If we know to utilize and adapt with our education, surely we gain abundant benefi ts.Wirote: You see? The education is also an investment likely a business. To gain or loss profi ts from it some-time can’t be exactly fortuned. The most importance is how to handle. Therefore this issue is an issue of inter-est. We should revise what direction we will point our children to and yes, unavoidably the advance planning is the thing must do. However, do not put pressure on your children with your too high expectation. Your children are the ones who study and to study happily can always make better outcome. Good bye!

ยงยุทธ : ไมๆ ผมไมไดมองวา เรียนฟรีผมคิดวามีสถานศึกษาใหเราเลือกมากขึ้น มีหลักสูตรใหเราเลือกมากขึ้น หลักสูตรที่ผมพูดถึงก็เชน โรงเรียน นานาชาติ หรือโรงเรียนที่เปนหลักสูตรสองภาษา

วิโรจน : แตมันหนาแปลกนะอาจารย ผมยกตัวอยางที่ภูเก็ตเนี้ย หลายๆ คนพยายามที่จะสงลูกเขามาเรียนในโรงเรียนเทศบาล แมกระทั้งอยูนอกเขตแสดงวาการศึกษาบานเรามันไมเทาเทียมกัน

ยงยุทธ : แนนอนครับมันเปนความเชื่อของผูปกครองนะครับ

วิโรจน : อาจารยบอกวาเปนความเชื่อหรอครับ

ยงยุทธ : คือรัฐบาลพยายามบอกใหเราเชื่อวาทุกแหงเทากัน แตที่จริงแลวผมกลาวในตอนตนแลววาทุกคน ตางตองการสิ่งดีๆใหกับลูกตัวเอง

วิโรจน : อีก 20 ขางหนา เราจะพัฒนาการศึกษาอยางไร ใหมองวาอีก 20 ป เด็กที่พึ่งเกิดในวันนี้จะไดรับการศึกษาที่ดีเทียบเทากับเมืองนอกหรือเทียบเทากับโรงเรียนที่จายคาเทอมแพงๆ

ยงยุทธ : ครับ เราตองไดรับงบประมานกอนนะครับสวนหนึ่งเราเลี่ยงไมไดวา งบประมานดานการศึกษาเนี้ยเปนการลงทุนที่คอนขางจะเยอะนะครับ เฉพาะแคตัวอาคารกับตัวจํานวนนักเรียนที่เพิ่มขึ้นก็ตองสัมพันธกันแลวนะครับ แลวถัดมาของจํานวนผูสอน คือ ครูอาจารยก็จะเห็นไดวา ไมใชมีแคครูนะ ตองมีผูชวยครูอีกดวยในระดับปฐมหรือวาในระดับอนุบาลนี้ ที่จริงภาครัฐก็ลงทุนพอสมควรแลวนะคับ แตทีนี้ผมกําลังพูดถึงในเรื่องของผูปกครองดวย บางคนก็ใหรัฐพัฒนาไมไหวเคาก็เลยไปในที่ที่มีความพรอมอยูแลวเชนตางประเทศหรือโรเงรียนอะไรก็ไดที่มีความพรอมอยูแลว ลูกจะจบ ม.6 อยูแลวเรารอไมได

วิโรจน : ก็สรุปสุดทายก็คือ เงินคือปจจัยในการลงทุน

ยงยุทธ : เงินเนี้ยเอามาเนนทางดานเทคโนโลยีใหมากขึ้นกวาเดิมดวย จะทําใหเราลดปญหาท่ีเราจะตองเอางบสวนใหญไปพัฒนาดานของตัวอาคารอยางเดียวนะครับ

วิโรจน : บุคลากรละครับ เชน อาจารยผูสอนละครับ จะตองเปนผูที่มีความรูความสามารถมากขึ้นมั้ย พัฒนา

ยงยุทธ : คือเราตองมีการฝกอบรมเพื่ออัพเดทขอมูลบอยครั้งขึ้นนะครับ คือครูก็ตองพัฒนาตัวเองไปดวย ใหรองรับกับเทคโนโลยีที่เขามาใหม

วิโรจน : เปนไปไดมั้ยวาครูบานเราอาจจะอายุมากแลว ไมสามารถรองรับตรงนี้ได ครูใหมๆ ก็ไมคอยจะมีหรือยังไงครับ

ยงยุทธ : ที่อื่นเคาก็มีครูอายุเยอะเหมือนกันครับอยูที่การฝกอบรมมากกวาครับ

วิโรจน : อาจารยกําลังบอกวาเรามีโอกาสท่ีจะเปนเมืองแหงการศึกษาท่ีดีไดในไมชา

ยงยุทธ : ถาพูดถึงภูเก็ตนะครับเรามีระบบทางดานอินเตอรเน็ตคอนขางจะลาํหนาไปเร็วทุกวันแตผมคิดวา ถาเกิดเรารูจักนําอินเตอรเน็ตมาใชใหเปนประโยชนนะครับ

วิโรจน : ครับ เห็นมั้ยครับวาการศึกษาคือการลงทุน ซึ่งเหมือนกับธุรกิจครับถาคุณลงทุนมากก็ไดมาก แตบางทีอาจจะขาดทุนหรือไดกําไรก็ตองดูกันอีกครั้งนึง วาเราจะจัดการกับมันยังไง ดังนั่นคิดวาประเด็นวันนี้เปนประเด็นที่นาสนใจ ลองทบทวนดูวาเราจะใหลูกไปในทิศทางไหน ตองวางแผนนะครับแตทั้งนี้ทั้งนั่นอยาคาดหวังกับลูกมากจนเกินไป ลูกอาจจะเครียดเกินไปที่จะใชชีวิตอยางมีความสุขนะครับ วันนี้ สวัสดีครับ

Let’s come and joy us! ….Today “Phuket Note” would like to take you enjoy in “Old Phuket Town Festival and Chinese New Year” that was recently held during 8- 10 February 2011 and this 12th-annual festival was organized by Phuket City Municipality. The event had been centered at Queen Sirikit Park spreading through the old town Phuket area as well as closing the venue for a walking street so that we were enjoyable for the various activities.

The ancient Shino-Portuguese-style Buildings have been decorat-ed with many big red Chinese lanterns were shinning along two sides of the street. Wandering throughout for eating, those vend-ers and restaurants were opened to welcome us to try on delicious food. Then we dropped for shopping the several local products or chicky hand-made collections. There were many street artists per-forming the fantastic variety shows such as the living statues, the traditional Thai dancing, Thai and Classical music performances. Let’s visited and took photo shootings with the old cars which have been displayed by a club in Phuket. Also we participated in discussion to learn the local culture both language and life style of Phuket. Finally, we did not forget to visit Thai Hua Museum where displayed the information about Phuket.

In the evening, it was a great time for the Chinese cultural perfor-mance from Sui Ning, in the province of Szechuan which was tak-en place on the main stage at the public park. This performance was free of charge for 3 days of the event. After that, we walked to visit the exhibition and enjoyed in many activities which were held by coordination from governmental sectors and incorporation sectors in Phuket for example, cruising on the Korjan Boat , tradi-tional plays, demonstrations of making the old stamp production, how to fold the traditional gold paper, the show of the old Phuket

KonPhuket Magazine activity The stage of discussion about the local language and culture was held by Kon Phuket Magazine where located in front of Thai Hua Museum. The honorable of native specialists and the experts were invited in discussion. In this year, the event was organized on Phang Nga Road as well so that the visitors could walk through around the event smoothly. However, there were some points to be improved such as the arrangement the stage on Thalang Road where many visitors stopped to watch the performances while others hardly walked trough to another sessions. Although, there were many points improved, the waste management was not available enough for many visitors. We hope that the organizers of the event for next year will concern on solving the problems and improving our traditional event continuously.

Fulfi ll the enjoyable life with photo shootings from the fi rst day to the last day of event. The im-pression combined with the stunning memorial that collected the delighted atmosphere, delicious food and smiling visitors. It was a great time of the beginning of the year that we could fi nd it in Phuket. We will surely see you again next year with our promise.

Like every festival in the world, there’ll be some people smil-ing, performing, talking, presenting, telling, playing, do-ing or even selling something interest-ing everywhere along the street while the children can also have some fun watching or coloring some provided images (below right) as the music and laughing fi lled the air, it’s an enjoyable moment you can simply fi nd here during 3 days of the ‘Phuket Old Days Festival’.

Since the parent generation of Khun Damrong Huangthanaphant in 1959, the shop just was a small street-side stall selling the kitchenware for several fairs such as an annual Chinese traditional fair of Por Tor or any fairs that were held in neighboring provinces. รานหยูฮั้วลง หรือรานแสงดํารงเปนรานที่ไดรับความไววางใจจากชาวภูเก็ตมาเปนเวลายาวนาน นับตั้งแต ป พ.ศ.2502 จากการกอรางสรางตัวในรุนบิดา มารดา ของคุณดํารงค หวงธนะภัณฑ ซึ่งขณะนั้นเปนเพียงแผงลอยแบกะดินที่ขายอุปกรณเครื่องครัวตามงานตาง ๆ ในจังหวัดภูเก็ต เชน งานพอตอ หรืองานที่จัดขึ้นในจังหวัดใกลเคียง แมหากชวงไหน ไมมีการจัดงานก็จะไปตั้งแผงขายบริเวณหนาบานของคนรูจัก จากความขยัน อดทนและสําคัญที่สุด คือ ความซื่อสัตย ทําใหแผงลอยเล็ก ๆ นี้ ไดกลายเปนที่ไววางใจของลูกคาดวยดีเรื่อยมา ในป พ.ศ.2505 ไดขยับขยายกิจการ โดยเริ่มเปดรานเปนคูหาเล็ก ๆ ในตัวเมืองภูเก็ต บริเวณตลาดสด ถ.ระนอง จนกระทั่งเปนที่รูจักทั่วไปของคนภูเก็ตวา ถาหากจะซื้ออุปกรณเครื่องครัวตองที่แสงดํารง จากจุดนี้เองกิจการของรานก็รุงเรืองขึ้นตามลําดับ และมีการเพิ่มเติมสินคาใหลูกคาสามารถ
