ANDRIES BARNARD

Volgens Kruger kom die rivier niegewoonlik so vinnig af nie.

rivier so vinnig sy walleoorstroom.

FROM today shoppers can enjoy a wide varietyof fresh fruit; tasty, quality hot foods, includingdelicious pies; succulent butter-based barbequeroast chicken and a range of hot rolls and spe-cially breads.

After months of hard work, the R6 millionproject that saw the store double their floorspace and increase the range of products on of-fer, is completed and open to the public fromtoday onwards.

Apart from incorporating a full deli an ex-tended food section, the staff compliment hasalso been more than doubled from 21 to 45 fulltime employees. There is also additional tills inthe food section. While the Woolworths Food

section will offer shoppers a selection of qualityfresh produce, grocery products and conven-ience foods, the fashion retail areawill sport thelatest styles and accessories.

“After DisChem, this is the section project ofthis kind the mall has undertaken, an so far itonly proved to be a huge success,” said Foun-tains Mall General Manager, David Ford.

“Residents will no longer have to drivethrough to Port Elizabeth to visit the Wool-worths stores there, as the new and improvedWoolworths store in Jeffreys Bay can now com-pete on the same level as other stores in theEastern Cape.

“The expansion of Woolworths is evident ofFountains Mall’s continued success and growthover the past year amid a sluggish economic en-vironment.”

DieWildedruifVal is bekroonmetdie eerste prys inSarie enTafelberg-uitgewers se 1982-jeugverhaalwed-stryd.

BRAZILIAN surfer AdrianoDe Souza is the winner of the

Billabong Pro J-Bay 2012.

Adriano defeated French surferJoan Duru in small and difficultconditions in the final with a pol-ished and dynamic display of small-wave surfing.

It was an icy winter day thatdawned for the remaining competi-tors in the Billabong Pro J-Bay Fri-day, but with contestable waves run-ning down the point, contest directorLuke Egan showed no hesitation insending the remaining competitors

straight out into the water. “We’regoing to crown a winner today, weather permitting,” said Egan.

First surprise of the morning wastwo-time and defending championSouth African Jordy Smith gettingeliminated by an on-form Joan Du-ru. In the small and inconsistentconditions, Jordy battled to find thehigh scoring waves, while Durupaddled into some good waves androde them with confidence.

Second upset was a dominantDale Staples defeating John JohnFlorence from Hawaii. Surfing fastand smooth, Dale kept

John John at bay all the waythrough to a nail-biting finish, withthe young South African getting thenod from the judges. Dale was even-tually knocked out by Aritz Aran-buru (EUK) in the quarter-finalsand finished as the highest placedSouth African in the event.

Although smaller than the abso-lute perfection that persistedthroughout the first three days ofcompetition, there were still excel-lent, high-scoring waves comingthrough and the remaining compe-titors were throwing

it down on the fast, lined up Super-tubes walls.

In the first semi-final it was Adri-ano De Souza against Ezekiel Lau(HAW) with the young Brazilianblasting his way through the heatand earning his spot in the final.

The second semi-final was a one-sided affair between Duru and AritzAranburu (EUK), with Duru win-ning theheat comfortablyandhead-ing on to the final.

By the time the final heat paddledout, the bad weather that the con-test organisers had been trackingall week was upon the competitors. With the onshore wind up and therain falling, the two competitorswent tooth and nail, with Duruquickly scoring a 9.27 out of a possi-ble 10 points, showing that the con-ditions were still extremely contest-able. after one particular wave

Adriano De Souza lost a fin on theshallow inside rocks and chose todoa runaround, pickinguphisbackup board in the process. Adrianoslipped back into the line-up andpicked up a nice little wave fromway up the point that opened up forhim and allowed him to score an8.33 and victory.

“I’ve come to Jeffreys Bay for somany years, and have always seenthe guys win the Billabong Pro, andnow it’smy turn,” saidAdriano. “I’mjust so happy, and I’m going to re-member this win for my whole life.J-Bay is a special place for me andhopefully see you again next year.”

The Nixon Winner Takes Allprize of a US$10,000 jewel-encrustedNixon watch for the highest heatscore of the event went to NathanHedge (AUS) for his incredible 19.27score in the first round of the event.
