LEVOXIN  Activated h ydrazine hydrate for corros ion cont rol in steam ge neration and he ating sys tems Description LEVOXIN  is BAYER AG's trade name for a product consisting of an aqueous solution of hydrazine  (N 2 H 4 ) and a small amount of organic activator. LEVOXIN  is a clear, slightly yellow liquid with an amine-like odor. Exposure to light and air may cause the slightly yellow color to become more brownish. Chemical formula: N 2 H 4  * H 2 O General properties Supply form LEVOXIN  is obtainable in the form of different concentrations of hydrazine: LEVOXIN  64 ? 64 % N 2 H 4 LEVOXIN  51 ?  51 % N 2 H 4 LEVOXIN  35 ?  35 % N 2 H 4 LEVOXIN  22 ?  22 % N 2 H 4 LEVOXIN  15 ?  15 % N 2 H 4 The number after the product name corresponds to the percentage of N 2 H 4  (pure hydrazine) contained in the product. The standard concentration is LEVOXIN  15 with 15 % by wt. hydrazine. Its hydrazine hydrate content is at least 23.5 %. Hazard characteristic Category 2 carcinogen Chemical properties Like non- activated hydrazine hydrate , LEVOXIN  i s a reactive nitrogen compound  with strong reducing properties. The corrosion-inhibiting effect of LEVOXIN  is primarily based on the activation and acceleration of the oxidation of Fe 2+  ions, with the formation of passivating oxide layers ( magnetite ). In addition, LEVOXIN  is an oxygen binder , with the only reaction products being nitrogen and water. Thermal decomposition of LEVOXIN  also generates ammonia, which helps to effect the necessary alkalization of steam and condensate. Furthermore, LEVOXIN  is an effective inhibitor  in cold, oxygen-containing water and is therefore ideal for the wet preservation  of systems which are temporarily out of action. Application Main areas of application LEVOXIN  is successfully used to inhibit corrosion in: -  high, medium and low pressure installations -  steam and condensate lines -  circulation heating systems -  preservation during plant shutdowns -  closed cooling systems Restrictions on use If LEVOXIN  is to be used in heating media for warming foodstuffs or drinking water, certain regulations need to be complied with, about which we would be glad to inform you. Further information See product information sheet LEVOXIN  No. SP 30 01 e, edition 2000-06, and corresponding safety data sheets, which we would be happy to supply you. • LEVOXIN

Activated hydrazine hydrate for corrosion control in steam generation and heating systems

    Description

LEVOXIN is BAYER AG's trade name for a productconsisting of an aqueous solution of hydrazine (N2H4)and a small amount of organic activator.

LEVOXIN is a clear, slightly yellow liquid with anamine-like odor. Exposure to light and air may causethe slightly yellow color to become more brownish.

    Chemical formula: N2H4 * H2O

    General properties

    Supply form

LEVOXIN is obtainable in the form of differentconcentrations of hydrazine:

    LEVOXIN 64 ? 64 % N2H4LEVOXIN 51 ? 51 % N2H4LEVOXIN 35 ? 35 % N2H4LEVOXIN 22 ? 22 % N2H4LEVOXIN 15 ? 15 % N2H4

The number after the product name corresponds to thepercentage of N2H4 (pure hydrazine) contained in theproduct. The standard concentration is LEVOXIN 15with 15 % by wt. hydrazine. Its hydrazine hydratecontent is at least 23.5 %.

    Hazard characteristic

    Category 2 carcinogen

    Chemical properties

Like non-activated hydrazine hydrate, LEVOXIN i s areactive nitrogen compound with strong reducingproperties. The corrosion-inhibiting effect of LEVOXIN is primarilybased on the activation and acceleration of theoxidation of Fe2+ ions, with the formation of passivatingoxide layers (magnetite). In addition, LEVOXIN is an

oxygen binder, with the only reaction products beingnitrogen and water.Thermal decomposition of LEVOXIN also generatesammonia, which helps to effect the necessaryalkalization of steam and condensate.Furthermore, LEVOXIN is an effective inhibitor in cold,oxygen-containing water and is therefore ideal for thewet preservation of systems which are temporarily outof action.

    Application

    Main areas of application

LEVOXIN is successfully used to inhibit corrosion in:

    - high, medium and low pressure installations- steam and condensate lines- circulation heating systems- preservation during plant shutdowns- closed cooling systems

    Restrictions on use

If LEVOXIN is to be used in heating media for warmingfoodstuffs or drinking water, certain regulations need to becomplied with, about which we would be glad to informyou.
