Examining How the Spanish Gas System has Reinforced its Leadership on the EU as an LNG Logistic Base

How the Spanish Gas System reinforced its capacity through the implementation of actions to improve efficiency of assetsThe development of logistics alternatives over mature virtual existing onesMeeting the UE's two main objectives in a new SoS strategy and a more efficient energy mix

The development of LNH Hubs from existing assets contribute to achieving both short term UE goals and a more efficient (technical, regulatory, environmental) wayof advancing to a optimal energy mix where NG is the best partner to renewable energies.Claudio has developed his entire professional career in Enags where he joined as Resident Engineer for the planned enlargement of the regasification plants. Laterhe joined the Production Area where after working for the Maintenance and Operations Unit at the plant of Barcelona, he held the position of Cartagena Plant Chiefuntil the end of 2010. He then managed the Transport Unit until the end of 2011. In January 2012, he joined the Infrastructure department as General Manager.

Why you should attend this session:-Since 2009, Andr has lead IT Strategy andInformation Systems for the $multi-Billion INPEXIchthys greenfield gas project, helping INPEXtransform through FEED and Construction-phaseinto a first-time energy-producing operator wherepreviously no large-scale owner-operatorexperience existed. Specific expertise includesstrategy realisation, capability-based planning, architecture and delivery management, ITgovernance, risk and compliance, budget and costmanagement, and demand/supply driven ITportfolio management.Located about 220 kilometres offshore WesternAustralia, Ichthys represents the largest discoveryof hydrocarbon liquids in Australia in 40 years. The Ichthys LNG Project is currently inconstruction and is ranked among the mostsignificant oil and gas projects in the world. TheIchthys LNG Project is effectively three mega-projects rolled into one, involving some of thelargest offshore facilities in the industry, a state-of-the-art onshore processing facility and an 889km pipeline uniting them for an operational life ofat least 40 years.

A New Class of Mid-Scale Natural GasLiquefaction Plants

Examining increasing numbers of onshoreand offshore projects whichcould establish a new class of mid-scaleliquefaction plants Benefitting from the economy of scalewhile meeting physical dimensions Results in lower capital requirements, shorter schedule and less complexproject execution compared to world-scale LNG projects Linde's development of a modular, safeand reliable concept at the same timeoptimizing capital requirements andschedule, which was finally selected byone client for a LNG project in Canada

In the recent past a rising number of projects, both onshore and offshore, are targetingcapacities around 2 MTPA which might establisha new class of mid-scale liquefaction plants in thenear future.Such mid-scale plants still benefit from theeconomy of scale e.g. for equipment and bulkmaterial compared to small-scale plants, howevernot scratching the limits with regard to thephysical dimensions which ensures a sufficientnumber of potential vendors and acceptabledelivery times. The concept results in lower capitalrequirements, shorter schedule and less complexproject execution compared to world-scale LNGprojects which would allow new players apartfrom the big oil & gas majors to enter into theLNG export market.Heinz Bauer holds several patents in the area ofcryogenic gas processing. Presently he isresponsible as Vice President for Technology ofNatural Gas Plants.

Predicting performance of LNG facilities withRAM analysis

How to assess the impact of logisticoperations and simulate the entire LNGSupply chain? How predict the future performance ofLNG plant to meet production demand? How to incorporate typical operations forLNG plants and its dynamic behaviour?

The transportation system for natural gasconsists of a complex network of pipelines, compression stations, LNG storage, LNGTerminals with liquefaction and regasificationsystems. Meanwhile, strategic gas planningrequires a balance to be achieved betweensuccessfully satisfying consumer gas demand, whilst minimising costs both in terms of capitaland operational expenditure. While the engineers have to assure the reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) of thesystems in a transparent and auditable way, theymust have the ability to handle complex transportscenarios and simultaneously incorporate allphysical equipment RAM details and maintenancestrategy to assure the delivery to the consumercontinuously without failure. RAM analysis is anunique methodology to provide a completeoverview of the systems performance asdesigned and can further be used to evaluateimpact of future development and ensure yourability to meet future supply contracts.DNV GL has developed advanced RAM tools andmethodology based on a history of over 30 yearsof working closely with the Oil&Gas industry. AtDNV GL, Fabien Treillaud is responsible of thebusiness development of the RAM analysis andactivity.

Boris Ertl is BP's advisor for LNG and gasmonetisation. Boris advises on the challenges ofbringing gas to market, provides technicalsupport to BP's portfolio of gas interests andleads the discipline team that delivers expertise ingas monetisation and energy efficiency.Floating LNG (FLNG) production plants areapproximately the size of four football pitches. As these vessels are set afloat deep offshore andhave to confront harsh weather conditions andhave people working in confined spaces it isimperative to ensure these projects are safe andenvironmentally sustainable.Control of major hazards is of key importance, and prevention of escalation from an initialincident is critical. It is therefore imperative that aclear philosophy should be set before designstarts, and that this should be based on a highlevel of understanding of major hazards, theirpotential consequences and the associated risks.

Theo went on to coordinate theGlobal Asset Management Excellence program inNigeria LNG and established the OperationalReliability, Asset Integrity, and Process Safetyframework currently in use in the company.Compared to the general energy industry, the LNGsector can boast of an enviable record inreliability and safety. The more important notehowever is that it is imperative for the industry tolearn from major hazard incidents whichunfortunately resulted in fatalities, asset damageand environmental exceedances. The LNGindustry is also vulnerable to similar incidents ifthe inherent hazards are not properly managed.Theo will address operational, process safety, reliability, availability, operating costs andmargins as NLNG took a decision to adopt aframework for working towards AssetManagement excellence.

Converged Information Infrastructure toRationalise LNG OperationsAddressing the LNG Value chain inonshore and offshore environmentsAcknowledging the validation of LNGprocess and operation in offshorescenariosImproving information flow with superiorIT infrastructure

Tony Acton qualified in Physics, CryogenicEngineering and researched the thermalproperties of cryogenic helium. He has worked inthe LNG Industry for over 34 years coveringEurope, the Far East, India, the Middle East and allthe Americas. Cost information is a key issue for each part of aLNG chain and all elements must add up to allowviable feed gas costs and a regasified LNG pricesover the long term. Most important is theliquefaction cost, followed by shipping andregasification costs. Historical generalisedcapital and operating cost indices can be usefulas a guide but real information from projects isvital as is an understanding of the effects ofdiffering technologies, operating philosophiesand the many local factors that influence costs. Also, operational and safety procedures need tobe fit for purpose.

Shortly after LNG terminalwas launched into operation in December 2014,Mr. Matulionis was assigned as the head of theLNG terminal. Klaipedos Nafta started commercial operations oftheir FSRU unit on January 1st 2015. It recentlyannounced that it had regasified and supplied 459000 MWh of natural gas to Lithuanias natural gastransmission system during April 2015. KlaipedosNaftas total preliminary revenue for the first fourmonths of 2015 is 36.3 million compared to11.9 million in the corresponding period of lastyear.
