FY17 Realize Your Dream, Start FlyingAero Club Promotion

For many, flying never goes beyond a folded piece of paper. With the Air Force Aero Club “Start Flying” program, active duty, retired military, DOD civilian’s employees and their families can start flying today. Aero Clubs will offer $49 introductory flight with actual hands on flying. After the introductory flight each person will receive a small logbook with his or her flight time logged. AFSVA will reimburse each Aero Club $100 per introductory flight (up to $2,000 per club). Also as part of the introductory offer if individual signs up that day they will receive the first 3 months of membership free.

Realize your dream, start flying is developed to increase participation, membership and flying hours! This is to get those individual’s that always dreamed of flying to get them up and get them hooked! The promotion is open to all active duty, retiree, DoD civilians, Non Appropriated civilians, family members and Civil Air Patrol members (CAP). (per AFI 34-101 and AFI 34-117)

OVERVIEW

“The Realize Your Dreams, Start Flying” will run May through September 2017

The focus of this promotion is to increase membership, flying hours and safety meeting attendance. This is a two phase promotion.

Phase One: To encourage Trial (new interest) by offering an introductory flight for $49 dollars plus a three (3) month free aero club membership.

Phase Two: Designed to increase flying hours with existing and new members. When members attend monthly safety meetings it keeps them current and “Cleared for Take-off”.

Phase one promotion will kick off 15 May and end 31 Aug 17. Phase two promotion will kick of 1 June and end 30 Sep 17.

GENERAL PROMOTION GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

Generate interest in flying among eligible population to include; active duty, retiree, DoD civilians, family members and increase flying hours by 5%Increase attendance at safety meetings by 5%

Increase membership (recruit or conversion of intro flight participants) by offering introductory flights to 200 potential new members Promotional Implementation:Dates: 1 May – 30 Sep 17

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

A. INTRODUCTORY FLIGHTS

1. Aero Club Managers will offer an introductory flights up to 1 hour, with some hands on instruction to allow the individual the actual feel of flying. Remember the ideas is to get them up and get them hooked.

2. Once completed the introductory flight each individual will receive a log book with their first time logged in.

3. You should take a picture of the individual by the plane or in the plane to post and provide to the individual. (Remember they are going to share with everyone they know! Another great way to get your information out there.) Post on Your Aero Club Facebook and your FSS Facebook or have your Marketing Department post as soon as possible. “Congrats on our newest member! Using the hash tag #StartFlying and #StartFlyingAF so we can tag it also and share.

4. Let them know about their three (3) months free membership. Provide them with a newsletter before they leave if you have one and invite them to any event you have coming up. Make sure they know about the safety meetings and the great prizes they could win. (Remember the key to the success of this program is follow-up, follow-up, follow up!)

5. Follow up quickly, thanking them for coming in to take the introductory flight. Let them know when they can sign up for ground school. Maybe at that time team those up with another member (a sponsor sort of speak) let some of your reliable members or instructors help be your spokespersons. (It is imperative to keep your new member aware of what is happening in your club, have someone available to answer questions).

1. You should conduct your monthly Safety Meeting each month during the promotion. AF Services will provide you with Aero Club Prizes. The local prizes are to be drawn during your monthly safety meetings beginning in June through Sept 2017. Two prizes should be awarded at your local base level by the following schedule:

a. June - Survival Kit in a bottle (2 each)b. July - Smith and Wesson Captain’s Flashlight (2 each)c. Aug - David Clark H10-13.4 Headset and Headset Case (2 each)d. Sep - 32 BG IPad Mini with knee board (2 each)

C. FUNDING

AFSVA/SVPCR will fund the cost of the following items:

1. We will reimburse up to $100 per introductory flight that you sign up during May – Aug (Limited 20 per installation)

2. Dollars will be sent electronically to the NAF AO after receipts have been received from expenditures.

D. ACCOUNTING

1. Introductory Flight Promotion cost:a. When authorized costs are incurred:

DR 114 00 and CR 101 00 for all costs incurred to establish a receivable from the Agency.

b. When reimbursed by the Agency: DR 101 00 and CR 114 00 to clear the receivable.

NOTE:1. Must provide receipt of introductory to receive reimbursement.2. Maximum reimbursement is $100 per introductory flight ($2,000 per aero club up to

twenty introductory flights).

Current Aero Club members and new members are eligible to win a survival kit in a bottle, Smith and Wesson Captain’s Flashlight, David Clark Headset and case, 32 GB IPad Mini with knee board, in the “Cleared for Takeoff” Phase 2 of the promotion. Members must attend safety meetings to be eligible to win. Drawings will begin at your June Safety Meeting and run each month through September 2017. There will be 2 winners each month. FSS Commanders, Civilian Leaders, FSS Aero Club and Marketing personnel may participate, but are NOT eligible to win prizes during monthly safety promotion.

MARKETING MATERIALS

Materials will be available from HQ AFSVA for downloadable at usafeservices.com under Aero Clubs so installations can download materials to fit their individual need but still maintain logo recognition and consistency across the board. Aero Club managers will need to get with their marketing managers to download the materials you will need for your promotion.
