Once the Crawford Market was located between the British fort and the local town, built in 1869. The stalls along MGRoad have a wide selection of reject items from namebrand manufacturers. Better quality items can bepurchased along Colaba Causeway and you should notmiss the colourful Linking Road which is described as themecca of fashion in Mumbai.

Bazaars are good to visit for a price check or the action, but not always the best place to buy. Here you can alsond a wide range of household items and soft furnishing.Chor Bazaar is a great area for antiques, as is MuttonStreet. Here there are lots of items are on sale. These areinteresting to visit, but you may have to search somewhat

Khadi Village Industries Emporium, a rambling Victorian store, has a long history and is ideal for traditional Indianclothing. Central Cottage Industries Emporium is a goodplace to nd souvenirs and downstairs are furniture andjewellery. This is not the best place for bargain shoppers,but the quality is very good.

In Mumbai you can also nd lots of Kashmiri stores, great if you are looking for textiles, rugs and handicrafts. Thereis a lot of choice on Mereweather Road but you might,however, have to haggle to get the price you want. Northof Crawford Market and west of Mohammed Ali Road are ahuge number of dierent stalls and plenty of smallerstores. There are also plenty of shopping malls in Mumbaiincluding CR2 mall (Nariman Point), Atria Mall (Worli),Oberoi Mall (Oberoi Garden City, O Western ExpressHighway, Goregaon) and R City Mall (Ghatkopar).

Accommodations in Mumbai vary considerably in price and quality. Many hotels ll up before twelve noon, so youshould try and book ahead if you can. Most tourists tend toprefer Colaba or Marine Drive which can be a bit moreexpensive, but better quality than elsewhere, while otherslike Juhu.

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport

The Chattrapathi Shivaji International Airport is the busiestairport in India. Expect it to take around 90 minutes to getinto the city centre as the trac can be very heavy. To getinto the city centre you can either go by train, bus,rickshaw, taxi or by renting a car.

The fastest way to reach the city is by train. The nearest station to the domestic terminal is Vile Parle and thenearest one to the international terminal is called Sahar.www.indianrailways.gov.in

BEST buses provide bus services in the city and suburbs. From the domestic terminal you can take bus 312 to VileParle East and Andheri East. From the internationalterminal you can also take bus 312 to Vile Parle East, andnumber 308 will take you to Andheri East.www.bestundertaking.com

Buses

The city buses are run by BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport). The buses are ne for short tripswith fares starting at Rs2. Be prepared for crowdedconditions on all local transport. BEST buses go out to allcorners of the city. Tickets can be bought from theconductor on the bus, but do avoid the rush hours if youcan.

Trains

The fastest way to get around the city is by train. The city has three dierent lines: Western Line, Central Main Lineand Harbour Line. With these lines you can reach mostparts of the city. Beware that trains are also very crowded.

Rickshaws

The most ecient way to reach dierent parts of the city iseither by taxi or the so called rickshaws, a three wheeledvehicle. The minimum fare for a rickshaw is Rs15 and theynormally seat up to three people.

There is no shortage of taxis and you can nd them throughout the city. The average price is Rs12 perkilometer and they usually have meters. However, watchout for those metres set on the previous fares and makesure your driver has a conversion card.
