Steering the artsIt is with a warm heart in the winter of 2006 that we welcome you at the firstNational Arts Management Symposium on the banks of the Mooi River in theNorth West Province. This is an exciting and unique event within the artsmanagement environment and is passionately presented to you by Artéma,the Institute for Arts Management and Development on the PotchefstroomCampus of the North-West University.

During these two days we will learn a lot, have dynamic discussions, socialise, network and maybe, unravel a small part of the South African arts manage-ment environment. All our answers will not necessarily be answered, nor all ourissues addressed, but we will make a start. A small start to get the artsmanagement environment into some kind of direction or to at least focustowards something bigger. And that is what’s important!

We trust that this will be a learning curve for you, in which you will not only havean illuminating experience, but also build a strong network and return to yourspecific arts environment to boldly apply what you have learned.

May you leave here with excitement and good memories, freshly motivated toserve your arts environment with passion and courage. Our best wishesaccompany you and we hope to see you here again next year.
