But over thelast couple of quarters, it has been aggressively cutting down its prices, which brought downthe operating margin.

Bangalore:Indias second-largest software services companyInfosys Ltdhas handed additional

responsibilities to at least four top-level executives as founder and executive chairmanN.R.

Narayana Murthy, who emerged from retirement in June to revive its flagging fortunes, tries to test

the mettle of senior managers and gain time in blooding future leaders.

As part of the reshuffle, consulting and systems integration headStephen Prattwill oversee the

utilities and resources business in North America and report directly toV. Balakrishnan, a board

member who heads Infosys BPO, its outsourcing unit, and oversees the Finacle banking software

    and India business units.

The Infosys Leadership Institute will now report directly to global retail and consumer packaged

    goods headPravin Rao.

Business IT services headChandrashekar Kakalwill now, along with his existing responsibilities,

head the consulting and systems integration business, which contributes a little more than 30% of

the companys revenue. Country heads in growth markets such as China, Japan, Australia, Middle

East, Germany and France will report to life sciences headV. Dheeshjith, as part of the new

    structure.

Bangalore-based Infosys also redistributed certain roles and handed more responsibilities to

executives after last weeks departure ofAshok Vemuri, a former board member and global head of

manufacturing and Americas at the company.

Infosys, once regarded as the bellwether of Indias $108-billion information technology sector, has

lost that status and is going through an unprecedented organizational overhaul under Murthy, who

was recalled from retirement to script a turnaround in its fortunes after the company lost significant

market share to faster-growing rivals in the past two years.

Murthy has also reshuffled the companys executive council, its highest decision making body and

    namedRanganath D. Mavinakere,Binod Hampapur RangadoreandNithyanandan

Radhakrishnanas the newest members of the council recently. His sonRohan Murtyis also set to

be appointed as a vice-president at the company, pending approval from the corporate affairs

    ministry.

We have undertaken certain reorganization within the company to further improve our client focus

and competitiveness. A few senior leaders have seen their roles enhanced as part of this

reorganization as well as a result of Ashok Vemuri's resignation, an Infosys spokeswoman said in

an email response to queries from Mint.

Fridays reshuffle hands more power to Balakrishnan, who is widely seen as one of the strongest

candidates to take over the role of chief executive officer after co-founderS.D. Shibulalretires from

the post in March 2015. After Murthys return, Balakrishnan was also appointed head of Lodestone,

a company Infosys acquired last year.

We havent seen anything new. I dont see what is different now from what they were doing six

months ago, from a client-facing perspective, said Sudin Apte, founder of outsourcing advisory firm

Offshore Insights. The fundamental problem they face is bringing growth back, which is not visible

right now. They need to win clients and large deals to instill some level of confidence.

The restructuring exercise has seen several top-level exits from the company since Murthys return

in June, most notably Vemuri, who was seen as another strong candidate to take over as the next

CEO. Other recent top-level exits include those of former global sales headBasab Pradhanand US

    financial services headSudhir Chaturvedi.

The changes seem a little reactive and not well-planned after Ashok Vemuri's exit, said Ankur

Rudra, vice-president at Ambit Capital. Reactive changes take a while to settle down. Looking at the

current restructuring, service lines are getting even more de-emphasized within the organization and

there is a clear verticalization ofthe portfolio.

In his second stint at Infosys in an executive role, Murthy has been quietly putting together a

blueprint for Infosyss revival, including meeting the top 100 clients of Infosys to protect existing

contracts and get more business and also aggressively pushing to cut costs, especially the ones

linked to doing business at the location of the companys clients outside India, according to company

executives who spoke on condition of anonymity and experts familiar with the discussions.

At the companys annual shareholder meeting in June, Murthy sought three years from investors to

turn around the fortunes of Infosys, which missed the lower end of its revenue forecast twice last

year and then stopped giving quarterly guidance.

Mumbai:N.R. Narayana Murthy, founder and executive chairman ofInfosysLtd, said on Tuesday

that the countrys second largest software services provider will not reduce prices despite gaining

from the rupees steep decline this year. Rather, Infosys will explore ways to offer its clients more

    value.

If you give me a dollar and I give you back two dollars of business value, the value leverage is two,

Murthy said. But if I convince you to give me a dollar and 25 cents, and give you 3 dollars of value,

then the business value leverage is 2.65. This is a win-win situation for both of us and is better to

add business value, rather than reducing prices.

Murthy was speaking atMotilal Oswal Financial Services Ltds ninth annual global investor

    conference on Tuesday.

The Indian rupee has been the worst performing currency in Asia and has deprecated 18.63% since

the beginning of this year. Information technology (IT) companies benefit from a weak rupee since

they earn a majority of their revenue in US dollars (some part in euro and pounds too) but pay their

employees (over 95% of whom are based in India) in rupees.

Typically, IT firms show margin gains of 30-50 basis points with every percentage fall in the rupee.

One basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point.

Murthy urged the Indian software services industry to desist from price revisions. In the end we will

all suffer, if we change pricing as we need the extra margins to make investments in training,

technology, infrastructure for which the company should have adequate margins and there is only

one person who pays the company is the customer.

My personal view is that Indian software industry must focus on value add and not cutting prices.

Infosys investors have been wary of top executives leaving the company, the latest beingAshok

Vemuri, a contender for the CEOs post, a member of the companys board and the global head of

    manufacturing and the Americas.

When asked for a reaction, Murthy said that the chairmans office will work towards optimization in

terms of sales and delivery in collaboration with the executive council. And the executive council will

be the highest body among the senior management.

Before Vemuris departure,Sudhir Chaturvedi, who used to head the companys US financial

services business, stepped down from his position on 24 August and its former global sales

headBasab Pradhanresigned on 9 July to join a start-up.

According to a 28 August note fromJPMorganChase and Co., changes under a new executive

management of a company results in some senior management flux, and Infosys could see more

changes as it works through its restructuring programme.

Urging investors to be optimistic about the future, Murthy added that going forward, the company will

focus back on its traditional business, as growth comes from large outsourcing projects which form

bread and butter business for us. We have led our self down by not focusing on its bread and butter

    business.

The companys new execution model will be to win large highly competitive revenue generation

outsourcing projects that bring growth, he said.

According to a 2 August note by brokerageCLSA India Ltd, Infosyss margin myopia led to lack of

focus on the price-sensitive traditional business lines, resulting in it ceding significant revenue

ground to peers. Regaining this lost ground is Murthys biggest challenge.

Also, arresting the slide in margins demands improving internal cost-controls, which have collapsed

in the past two years, and ensuring greater accountability on investments made by individual units

    while managing industry-wide pricing pressures.

Murthy told shareholders at his first annual meeting on 15 June since his return that his company will

be rebuilding a desirable Infosys and that will take at least 36 months.

During the last two years, our focus on the third stream (traditional outsourcing projects) was

blurred, the 67-year-old Murthy admitted during the AGM. He added, We have to refocus on this

(our bread and butter business) in the short termthe entire company is committed to refocusing on

the third stream to enhance our win ratio in large outsourcing deals.

Infosyss stock has risen 30% since June, when Murthy returned to the company, while the BSE

    Sensex has declined 9.3%.

On Tuesday, shares of Infosys fell 1.41% to Rs.3,033.85 on BSE while the exchanges benchmark

Sensex shed 3.45% to close at 18234.66 points. The BSE IT Index fell 1.41%.

Things thatmatter..Tips to save environmentBefore you celebrate Earth Hour, before you participate in a Yamuna Clean Drive or even before you go to

participate in a Green Marathon,it is important for each one of us to display a sense of self-discipline in saving

the ailing environment for which there are no band-aid solution possible.

Switching your lights off for an hour each year and wasting electricity the entire year wont address the

problem.Nor our sweeping of road unless we stop throwing things out of our German-made cars(Some

people literally dont deserve to drive them..!!).

While the real onus is on each of us to find the solution which one can imbibe in their daily routine,i am listing

    a few which i follow:

1.Replace your home lighting fixtures with LED bulbs especially in toilets, bathrooms etc. small places where

luminous intensity is not a major concern. They are now available as cheap as Rs 50 from Lagpat Rai

    Market,Chandni Chowk.

    2. While making tea, always add sugar, tea leaves etc. after the water starts boiling. This can save you a bit of

LPG because the boiling point of water increases after adding all these ingredients and thus more energy is

required.Needless to say, prepare it with lid on the vessel. It not only saves energy but time too.

    3. A common one, dont waste water while washing hand. The interval between you press the liquid soap

plunger and get your hands back under tap is crucial. If you are right-handed,you can use your right hand to

open and close tap and left one to have liquid soap ,and then rub them on both hands.

    4. Switching Off lights of your rooms when you leave them,in home and, also in schools and colleges. The cost

may be to Government but environment is ultimately yours.(and govt. too.:P).

5.Recycling any plastic box by using it for flower case or pen stand..anyway you like..let your creativity

    unfold.

I would update this list as i find some more techniques.I would be great if you can share the tips you follow.

    .2

What is that in LED that they are becoming so popular??..At First, high end cars used them as

rear end brake lights, though some may feel that it was there to add some artistic quotient to

mean machines but this involves some simple calculations to derive some really mind boggling

results concluding their importance as rear brake lights. Now you can see them invading your

homes, shops, here-there and almost everywhere.

The point I am discussing all this about LEDs is to highlight the fact that LEDs uses are onlybound by our imagination.

I recently used a LED as a troubleshooter while my multimeter was down.

Actually I was to repair a casio. My niece,4 years old, had done with her experimenting with it and

it was turn to get music out of it.

So as I unscrewed the casing and scrutinized the PCB for some fireworks, I found nothing.

Everything seemed fine, shiny cooper tracks ,no wire connection broken..etc. Then where is the

problem Biting my nails.!! ..In CoB (Chip on Board..the black blot on PCBs)..??..

As testified by my niece, she did nothing wrong and the device was not in use for quite sometime.

So CoB issue would be the last thing to consider.Lets first check the speakerBut how??..My

multimeter was not working. Then I saw the ubiquitous LED in my repair kit.I just connected the

LED to the speaker terminals( Remember to connect the the correct terminals) and pressed few

keysIt was glowing .. Yippeee ..i got the weak link..it was the speaker that had gone bad.

I had one in my spares, so replaced it quickly ,soldered it..and it worked well.

So, in conclusion I learned to work out things with limited resources and a little

improvisation..and interestingly found a new way to use LED. So keep playing with them because

Its defiantly something more than just a p-n junction.

    3.The Hidden Reason.-Part-I

Have you ever wondered why everybody shuns government offices, procedures and administrative

work..??..Why is it so that government organizations bear huge losses but private sector scales new

heights??Why Bangalore blasts victims are forgotten a day after but Boston killers are man hunted

    the very next day??.Think ..Think..!!!

By now,you must have thought of economic reasons, red tapism, multiplicity of organizations and so

onwhich almost everyone across news channels and newspapers seem to focus on.

But the root cause is somewhere else. Its The Hidden Reason..

Its all depend on how we treat our resourcesmost importantly, the often shunned one..The Human

Resource.Just imagine how you would feel if u are being treated like an personal enemy, answered

rudely for asking simplest of doubts(common problem at college admins) will you ever like to go

    there?..Probably never.

And all this is being going onpeople start by-passing government procedures and tout derive benefits

from itand consequently corruption rises. The disbelief of citizens further deepens, more touts come

in..and this vicious cycle goes on and on.

Here the problem..buts wheres the solution??..In Lokpal..??..

All the laws try to punish the corrupt but not the cut the origin of corruption. And its not only about

    corruption..its very well beyond that.!!

It may seem superficial and vague to lawyers, judicial experts etc. but i think the real solution lies in

    treating our citizens with dignity.

Always remember people are an asset, not a liability.

    4.The ART of Giving

After reading the famous book ,The Art of Electronics by Paul Horowitz, thinking about the title andgiving my grey cells a workout,I understood the underlying basics of giving(and electronics too)

and its correlation with the title. Art is defined as the elegant way of doing something.Thought I

may be comparing and correlating two quite different topics of electronics and humanity but they

too are inter related somewhere(will surely discuss this in upcoming posts).

So whats Art of giving? To explain this I will share a incident with you. Everytime when we go to

donate food or some clothing etc. to people, my mother would pack it with great

    care.For food,she bought a foil based container,plastic spoons,and bags.She would then take a

good amount of time packing them, put food in those container, put a plastic spoon, seal them with

cardboard so that it doesnt leak. And I was, earlier, critical of this practice given the extra effort

    and time it involved.

But, when one day, I gave one of those nicely packed packages to the person sitting besides the

roadside, even before he could eat the food,he had on his face a feeling of dignity and pride

seeing that special packing and a plastic spoon. He thanked and blessed me for giving him the

foodahhprobably nothe would have got food from somewhere..but I think It was the way he

was given food that made him feel good.At that particular moment I realized how wrong I

was.Giving something or feeding the poor is not about giving them a meal but giving them in a

dignified manner because they are human being too, they have feelings. Give as little as you can

but remember not to deprive them of their diginity.

Dont know why but the image of that person and his words are engraved in mind and pop up

everytime I pass through that roadand this post is dedicated to him and to my book ,which made

I am writing this article in the backdrop of National Consumer Rights Day, celebrated on 24 December.

Although I believe it is meant to be exercised every day rather than any specific day. Though the medium of

this post, I would like to share with you a very peculiar ordeal at dominos pizza outlet.

I visited Dominos Pizza outlet, near pusa road, their newly opened branch on 15th of this month. I ordered pizza

and plain garlic bread. Surprisingly, I was told by the person at the counter that plain garlic bread was not

available, however I can get stuffed one. Being hungry and as the scent of fresh baked pizza

was wafting through the air I didnt inquired much and ordered stuffed one. But when I returned home shared

this unusual incident with my sister, something struck my mind: how can plain garlic bread is not available but

stuffed is??Since both require the same dough. I was dumbstruck. I realized this was a marketing strategy to

increase their revenues probably because stuffed garlic bread was not in demand.

I felt dejected and my belief in the brand which claims to celebrates happiness was shaken. I decided to

lodge a online complaint. I did that the next day and within fifteen minutes of issuing of complaint number, the

branch manager called me apologizing and guaranteeing of better service next time. He even offered to deliver

a plain garlic bread .. but I told him it was not about money but principles.

This may seem a petty issue to many but these small things defines the ideology of the company/firm. Being

an entrepreneur at heart I am quite particular of these things. And as a consumer I take pride in exercising my

rights whenever possible.I also appreciate dominos for speedy redressal of my complaint.

Hope everyone exercises their rights as an informed consumer.

12.12.12While every one on facebook and other social networks is urging you to make today memorablewell its the

last repeating date of the century..i decided to start my blog. While the idea was swaying in my mind for quite a

    time,but the effort was missing.

So,as they saysomething comes from within and you just do it.it happened today.

The title came automatically in mindand my fingers followed.!!!!..

Frankly speaking ,I have no specific topic about which this blog will be, but one thing is sure it will be about

change .change the way we live.I will try to exemplify how small things that go unnoticed have the power

    to create big impact.
