¬ trains 철도

There are three systems “Nishitetsu”, “Sub-

way”, and “JR”. The subway links the two

city centers, Tenjin and Hakata to the Air-

port. Take “Nishitetsu” to visit sites such

as Dazaifu or Yanagawa. Take “JR” to travel

outside Fukuoka to Nagasaki, Beppu and

the new Kyushu Shinkansen to Kagoshima.

후쿠오카 시내 철도는 크게 ‘니시테츠 전철’ ‘지하철’

‘JR’로 나뉜다. 지하철은 공항과 시내 중심가인 하카타,

텐진을 이어준다. 다자이후나 야나가와 등 관광지는 ‘

니시테츠 전철’를 이용하면 편리하다. 나가사키, 벳푸,

가고시마 등 후쿠오카현 외의 지역을 방문하거나

신칸센을 탄다면 ‘JR’을 이용하자.

¬ Buses 버스

Go almost anywhere aboard Nishitetsu Bus

in Fukuoka City! Rates vary by distance, but

are just ¥100 within the ¥100 Bus area (see

p. 4 ~ 5 yellow area) including Hakata Sta.,

Su-miyoshi, Yakuineki-mae, Tenjin and Gofu-

kumachi. Combined with Showa Bus, you can

go as far as Itoshima from Hakata Station.

후쿠오카 시내를 편리하게 돌아볼 수 있는 니시테츠

버스. 요금은 승차거리에 따라 상이. 후쿠오카 도심부에

한해서 100엔 버스를 운행 중. 운행 지역은 하카타역,

스미요시, 야쿠인 에키마에, 텐진, 고후쿠마치가 포함

된다 (4~5쪽 지도의 노란색으로 표시된 지역에 한함).

니시테츠 버스 외에 쇼와버스가 ‘하카타역~이토시마

방면’ 노선을 운행 중.

How to ride 버스 타는 방법

● Check the destination on the front and

side displays of the bus’s exterior. Board via

the center doors.

● If paying cash, take a ticket as you board.

If you have a nimoca IC card wave it over the

sensor, ticket not required.

● Bus stops and fees are displayed on the

monitor next to a driver. The fee appears un-

der the ticket number.

● Fees are displayed on the monitor above

the driver. Match your ticket number to get

your fee.

● Push the stop button to alert the driver that

you want to get off at the next stop.

● Drop the fee and your ticket into the box

next to the driver and get off from the front

door. If you need change, drop cash into the

box next to the driver. When you are using

nimoca, wave your card above the sensor.

● 버스가 오면 전면이나 승차구 옆의 전광판에 떠

있는 행선지 번호를 확인하고 목적지에 가는 버스가

오면 가운데 문으로 승차한다

● 현금으로 운임을 지불할 경우에는 승차시에

정리권을 뽑는다. IC카드 [nimoca]를 갖고 있을

때에는 승차구의 단말기에 카드를 터치한다 (이

경우에는 정리권이 필요 없음).

● 정차하는 버스 정거장 이름과 운임은, 수시로

운전사 옆의 모니터에 표시된다. 갖고 있는 정리권

번호 아래에 표시 되어 있는 것이 운임이다.

● 목적지 버스 정거장 이름이 모니터에 표시 되고

안내방송이 흐르면 하차 버튼을 누른다.

● 운전사 옆의 박스에 정리권과 정확한 금액의

운임을 넣고, 앞 쪽의 출구로 하차한다. 돈을 바꿔야 할

때에는 동전교환기를 이용하자. (거스름돈이 지급되지

않으므로 미리 동전을 교환해야 한다). nimoca를

갖고 있을 경우에는 내리는 문의 nimoca 단말기에

카드를 터치한다.카드를 터치한다.

동전과 선불 카드로 사용할 수 있다. 휴대폰 로밍

Taihaku-dori

many wealthy merchants

flourished in Hakata dur-

ing the Sengoku period

(approx. 1467–1568), but

the fortunes they amassed

made the area a military target and repeated

attacks saw much of it burnt to the ground.

However, in 1587 Toyotomi Hideyoshi allied

with local merchants to revive the area as

a major commercial hub. The main street of

that time became a focus of further recon-

struction work following World War II, when

it was expanded to a width of 50m and re-

named Taihaku-dori, which roughly trans-

lates to “Hakata’s Main Street”. It stretches

1.8 km from Hakata Station to Fukuoka Sun

Palace and is a great starting point for any

Hakata adventure.

Along the east side of Taihaku-dori is

Gokushomachi. This historical area contains

many shrines and temples, including Japan’s

oldest Zen temple, Shofukuji, which was built

in 1195. Nearby Tochoji temple is also worth

checking out for its 10.8-meter-tall 30t Bud-

dha statue and hexagonal hall. For a further

“taste” of Japanese history, head across

the river to the Katakusa area, where you’ll

find the sake brewery Hakata Hyakunengu-

ra. Dating from the early Meiji period, the

elegant building stands out from its urban

surroundings.

전국시대에 많은 거상이

활약했던 하카타에는 엄청난

자본이 모여들었기 때문에

무사들의 표적이 되었고 몇

차례의 전쟁을 겪으며 전성기

때의 모습을 잃고 말았다.

하지만 1587년에 도요토미

히데요시와 하카타 상인들이

실시한 복구 계획 덕분에

거리가 정비되며 근세 도시

하카타로 되살아나게 된다.

이때 만들어진 길을 확장한

것이 지금의 다이하쿠도오리

(大博通り). ‘하카타의 대로(

大通り)’에서 유래한 명칭이다.

다 이하 쿠도 오리 동 쪽,

고쿠쇼마치에는 절과 신사가

많다. 일본 최초의 선종사원

쇼후쿠지에서는 복구 계획

실시 때에 만들어진 토담을 비롯해 위엄 있는 정문을 볼 수 있다. 도쵸지의 후쿠오카

대불과 롯카쿠도도 유명하다. 다음으로 ‘하카타 햐쿠넨구라’. 메이지 초기에 지어진

운치있는 주조장이 시선을 잡아끈다. 하카타의 현대와 과거가 공존하는 곳.

메이지 시대~쇼와 초기의 다이하쿠도오리는 하카타 역의 옛 역사와 각종 상사,

하카타 다이마루 백화점 등이 모인 시내 제일의 비즈니스가였다. 1951년에는

덴야마치에 많은 문화인들이 사랑했던 ‘카페 브라질레이루’가 이전했다. 주변에서

근무하는 직장인들에게 사랑받아왔고, 지금도 향수를 불러 일으키는 분위기와

커피를 즐기려는 손님들로 북적인다.

현재에도 많은 비즈니스맨들이 다이하쿠도오리를 오고 가며 하카타에 활기를

불어넣고 있다. 올해 3월에는 JR하카타시티가 오픈 하는 등 한시라도 눈을 뗄 수

없는 곳이다.

From the Meiji Period until the early 1960s, Taihaku-dori was a boom-

ing business street, with trading companies and the Daimaru depart-

ment store among those attracted to the area. In 1951, Café Brasileiro,

beloved hangout of novelists such as Ashihei Hino and Kyusaku Yu-

meno, moved into the area and has been a favorite of local business

men and women ever since.

From merchants to businessmen, Hakata’s economic movers and

shakers have long been drawn to Taihaku-dori. The successful open-

ing of the JR Hakata City building in March suggests it will continue

to thrive into the future too.

이루어지는 ELLE CAFÉ. 계절마다 조금씩다른

모습을 보여주는데 이번 달에는 가을 신메뉴가 새롭게

추가되었다.

‘본격적으로 요리를 공부하고 싶어요.’ 경영자로써

바쁘게 일본 전역을 오가는 지나 휘틀씨. 저녁식사는

되도록이면 직접 만드려고 하는데 그래서 점심식사나

해외 출장 시 저녁식사를 할 때에는 단지 먹기만

하는게 아니라 조리법과 재료에도 관심을 기울이려

하고 있단다.

유학을 위해 19살 때 처음으로 일본을 찾은

그녀는 모델과 대학 시간강사 등의 일을 해왔고 모국

뉴질랜드와 호주를 중심으로 한 여행 및 유학을

프로듀스하는 법인회사를 후쿠오카에 설립했다.

단순한 어학연수 차원을 뛰어넘어 ‘진짜’ 체험을

제공하고자 하는 그녀의 의지는 회사 설립 8년째를

detail about the food, though, let’s meet this

month’s guest.

Though Gina Whittle has a hectic schedule

as a company manager, she eagerly invests

her spare time in learning more about cook-

ing. Even on her lunch break, her eyes are

peeled for new ingredients or recipe ideas

that she can use.

Originally from New Zealand, Gina first

visited Japan when she was 19 year old. Af-

ter working as a model and part-time teacher

at a university, she established her own com-

pany, Gina & Partners, facilitating educational

exchanges between New Zealand, Australia

and Japan. She strongly believes in the im-

portance of experiencing different cultures

holistically, rather than travelling abroad just

to learn a foreign language. This is reflected

in her own work schedule, which sees her out

and about a lot. Seminars and business trips

take her all over Japan, and she takes great

pleasure in being able to work on the go, es-

pecially in a place like ELLE CAFÉ: “It’s simple,

and I can relax".

Today, her order is porcini mushroom gn-

occhi. She enjoys its chewy texture and the

combination of Parma ham and bitter arugula

in the sauce. "New Zealanders have hearty

meals in cafés, using simple ingredients.”

This café culture seems to differ from Eu-

rope’s, where drinking is higher on the agenda.

Gina always wants to re-evaluate her goals,

rather than have a single, permanent one.

"You have only one life to live so why not en-

joy it? Maintain a wide perspective and you

will always be able to find new opportunities

and see yourself anew. Have REAL experi-

ences!" This motto certainly shines through

from within.

카페에서 일이 잘 된다고 했는데 ‘ELLE CAFÉ는

심플하며 밝은데다 안정된다’며 웃어보였다.

버섯의 왕이라 불리는 포르치니를 사용한 뇨끼를

주문한 그녀는 쫀득쫀득한 뇨끼와 크림 소스, 그리고

곁들여진 생햄과 쌉싸름한 루꼴라를 맛보았다. ‘재료를

잘 살린 심플한 조리법과 양이 많은 뉴질랜드 요리는

카페에서 먹는 경우도 많아요.’ 카페를 음료를 즐기는

곳이라 생각하는 유럽과는 조금 다른 듯 하다.

목표를 단번에 정해버리기보다는 다양한 경험을

통해 많은 것을 배워가며 그러한 과정을 통해 목표는

항상 업데이트되어야 한다는 지나. ‘인생은 단 한

번뿐이니 즐겨야죠. 시야를 넓혀서 세계를 둘러보면

새로운 자기 자신, 그리고 기회를 찾을 수 있어요.

리얼한 체험을 해야하지 않을까요?’ 그녀가 빛나는

이유는 여기에 있는 듯 하다.

dition now! Acts of all kinds (singers, danc-

ers, musicians, acrobats, etc.) are welcome.

Last year, local newspapers and TV stations

reported on the event and over 770 guests

attended. It’s a great chance to get exposure

and have fun at the same time.

World famous ukulele musician

launched his "Aloha for Japan"

tour to celebrate his 10th anni-

versary as a soloist. The act was

feels like they are part of the

show. Jake went back to basics

This religious festival, held ev-

ery Autumn, lasts three days.

It originated in 1634 when two

female performers dedicated a

new dance to the Suwa Shrine.

The dance is now registered as

a national cultural asset. You will

see the dance, called “Niwasaki-

mawari”, at several spots in town.

칸에이 시대 11년 두명의 유녀가

스와신사에 소무(극에서 추는 짧은

춤)를 봉납한 것이 시작이라고 알려진

나가사키를 대표하는 가을 대축제이다.

博多灯明ウォチング博多部一帯Hakaya Tomyo Watching

Inspired by the ancient Senyo-

myo (thousand lights) ceremo-

ny, this festival sees the Haka-

ta area fantastically illuminated

with sacred lanterns known as

tomyo. Artistic arrangements will

be created across a wide area in-

cluding Hakata Sta. Square and

Kushida Shrine. Free buses will

cover the area.

하카타에서 옛날부터 행해지고 있는

천등불을 지금도 이어받아 올해로

개최 17회를 맞이하는 정서 넘치는

축제. 하카타 지역의 거리를 환상적인

불꽃이 비치고, 하카타 역 앞 광장과

쿠시타 신사 약 7곳에는 거대한 지상

그림도 떠오른다. 학생들의 창작등불

콘테스트를 시작해 각 지역 다양한

행사가 열린다. 지역은 광범위하므로,

日本文化塾こくさいひろばJapan Cultural Program

This monthly event gives ex-

change students a chance to

learn about Japanese culture. A

lecture by a local businessman,

politician or academic is followed

by a talk from the young people

on their cross-cultural experi-

ences. The intercultural mixer

afterwards is a great chance to

meet people.

This festival began around 1,200

years ago, to give thanks for the

Autumn harvest, and is now one

of Hakata’s favorite Autumn

events. A ceremony will be held

events include a market selling

autumn crops and sumo contest.

쿠시다 신사에서 대제가 진행되어,

◊ eco cruising on the chikugo riverThe Chikugo River provides roughly one-third

of the water used in the Fukuoka City metro-

politan area. There will be a tour of the Chiku-

go River on traditional houseboat to coincide

with the Chikugo-gawa Festival in Kurume

to promote exchange in the river area. The

tour will also include a trip to Chikugo Ozeki,

a dam controlling the river waters. It’s the

perfect opportunity to learn about the envi-

ronment while enjoying the festival. ● Oct.

ticipants to enjoy local autumn festivals and

events. You can enjoy nature’s fall colors, the

longer nights, and the dining experiences that

only Fukuoka offers. The selection of mini-

tours includes the Ichiba Yokamon Meguri

walking tour of Yanagibashi Market, Hakata’s

kitchen; Hakata Bijin ni Daihenshin, an evening

walking tour for those dressed in kimono; and

tours to try Zen meditation with a sushi bento

◊ environment Festival Fukuoka 2011This hands-on event can be enjoyed by peo-

ple of all ages while learning about the envi-

ronment. There are upwards of 50 booths,

including classes for making eco-bags and

eco-candles, and paper pressing artwork us-

ing recycled paper. The stage events include

a fashion show with recycled clothing, a per-

formance by the Fire Department band, and

a workshop for making musical instruments

from discarded materials. At the same time,

there’s a quiz game with nice presents for the

early arrivals, a simulation of a recycling so-

ciety that the children love, and electric ve-
