Kübra AŞAN ANADOLU UNIVERSITY Visually impaired students in the Open Education System gave a public concert at Cinema Anadolu on Tuesday, December 6 on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Among the guests of the concert were Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan (Rector of Anadolu University), Prof.Dr. Adnan Özcan (Vice Rector), Prof.Dr. Yücel Güney (Vice Rector and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Open Education), faculty members, students, and athletes in Eskişehir Sports Club for the Visually Impaired. Before the concert, Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan gave an appreciation giſt to Abidin Karademir, a visually impaired student in the Program in International Relations, Faculty of Economics, Anadolu University, who ranked the first in the tandem cycling category of VelotürkGranFondo a bike race held in Çeşme in November. en Prof.Dr. Yücel Güney presented an appreciation giſt to Oğuzhan Can, a member of Eskişehir Cycling Association, who was the pilot of Abidin Karademir in tandem cycling. Aſter opening speeches and presentation of the giſts, a choir of visually impaired students in open education programs performed Turkish Folk Music in the concert.

Visually impaired students in the Open Education System gave a public concert at Cinema Anadolu on Tuesday, December 6 on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Among the guests of the concert were Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan (Rector of Anadolu University), Prof.Dr. Adnan Özcan (Vice Rector), Prof.Dr. Yücel Güney (Vice Rector and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Open Education),

SOCIAL SCIENCES: A FIELD OF STUDY DRAWING INTEREST IN AKADEMA Res.Asst. Gamze TUNA

AKADEMA offers two courses under the category of Social Sciences: “Reading and Writing Poetry” and “Family Structure and Relationships”. Both courses enable learners to interact with course instructors in synchronous sessions in virtual classrooms. Learners can get enrolled in courses at http://akadema.anadolu.edu.tr/cat-sosyal.php. They have access to course content at https://ekampus.anadolu.edu.tr/ at the place and time of their choice. Learners get in touch with course instructors and fellow learners in scheduled synchronous sessions. A certificate of completion is granted to course participants that carry out the activities assigned by the course instructor in due time.

“Reading and Writing Poetry” is a course delivered by Prof. Dr. Yüksel Kocadoru. The course description available at http://akadema.anadolu.edu.tr/course-siir.php defines poetry as “the art of expressing the depth of emotions and thoughts with a limited number of words”. The course instructor contacts with participants once a week in synchronous sessions in the virtual classroom. The course aims to help learners develop basic knowledge and skills required to read poems with a literary approach and write poems in view of literary rules. The four-week course plan is as follows:

• Week 1: Introduction to the course(synchronous), Qualities of a good poem (asynchronous), End-of-the-week meeting (synchronous)

• Week 2: Poem reading exercises(asynchronous), End-of-the-week meeting (synchronous)

• Week 3: Introduction to poem writing(asynchronous), End-of-the-week meeting (synchronous)

• Week 4: Poem writing exercises(asynchronous), End-of-the-week meeting (synchronous)

Aile Yapısı ve İlişkileriŞiir Okumak ve Yazmak

“Family Structure and Relationships” is a course delivered by Prof. Dr. Sezen Ünlü. The main focus of the course is on family, which is the smallest unit of society. The course concentrates on the significance of family and marriage in social life, common characteristics of successful marriages, factors that lead to impaired family structure, and main rules for successful parenting. Learners first read related resources and watch video lectures, and then exchange ideas. The four-week course plan is as follows:

OPEN EDUCATION SYSTEM CONTRIBUTES TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF MANAGEMENT I N F O R M A T I O N S Y S T E M S

The objective of Undergraduate program in Management Information Systems, launched in the Faculty of Open Education of Anadolu University in 2015-2016 academic year,is to respond to market needs regarding information systems. The program aims to enable students to comprehend the planning, design and management of methods, processes and systems used by individuals and businesses to meet the need for generating, storing, sharing and accessing information. Graduates of the program may be employed

in the field of financial services, retail services, logistics and transport, tourism and information, and communication technologies. They are employed in these services for producing solutions related to information technologies, determining customer needs, and marketing of goods and services; and in public institutions particularly for defining and meeting IT needs.

The program had a quota of 2000 in 2015-2016academic year, and achieved to fill 87% of its quota in

its first year. The quota will be the same in the next academic year. Candidates are placed in the program based on their scores in university entrance examinations.
