“Wat word van die saadjies, Kareltjie”, vra Elanie, “gooi hul le dit weg?“ “O, nee, ons saad word gepars todat die olie daaruit spat en dan word die olie gebruik in al lerhande produkte soos slaaisous en margarien. Die geparste deel van die saad word as veevoer en kunsmis gebruik. Natuurlik word die beste saadjies gehou sodat die boer dit die volgende jaar weer kan plant.”

By die fabrieke word die katoenvesels gekam en skoongemaak deur ’n groot masjien. Die masjien kam die koeke uit, net, soos ons, ons hare kam. Dit word nou in ’n lang dun draad gespin. Hierdie draad word om ’n tol gedraai en die materiaal word deur ’n masjien geweef. Katoenmateriaal word gekleur of patroontjies word daarop gedruk. Die rol le materiaal word na die winkel gestuur. Katoen is koeler as wol of sy in warmer lande. Onbewerkte katoen word gebruik vir watte. Ander gebruike: magarien, klere en motorbande.
