Our VDCAhosts con- sistently put on a good show-and bring some very interesting vintage machinery; this event has become a favorite among the South Atlantic Club racers with its relaxed atmosphere and close proximity to one of the south'sgreatcoastal cities.Most of the reg- ular participants ofthis event have their spe- cial placesin Savannah to enjoy a good meal with friends. Non-racing spouses also find lots to do with shopping and siteseeing avail- able close by. And the weather tends to be pretty good in December. The race weekend commenced on Friday with four practice sessions for the 37 BMW CCA Club racers. Saturday was a full day, including two morning practicesessions with quali$ring and the sixff-minute endurance race in the aftemoon. Sunday included a morning qualifying session and an early-aftemoonsprint race.With severalregional and national cham- pionships still up for grabs,the racing was sure to be intenseand exciting. Thirty cars took the green flag for Satur- day's enduro. The race was incident-free, avoiding any dreaded full-courseyellow Mike Akard (D-M E30 318is) was on the pole and took the early lead, but dropped out on lap elevenwith abroken clutch, handing the lead to Chris Lewis (C-M E46 M3). After the pit stops I found him again and was able to close the gap, but when I saw him pit a second time I know something was wrong." Over the courseof the year, the series ran 77 races at 32 events acrossthe US and in Canada. A total of 328 racers competed in the seriesin 2008, com- pared to 324 in 200'7 , so the seriesheld the line in terms of participants despite economic downtums. FPREPARED, with 78 competitors, was far and away the largest class in the series.The national title went to VernAnderson of the South Central region, who won his class nine times in his E36 M3.
