INTRODUCTION
THE BATANGAS STATE UNIVERSITY PROFILE
The beginning of Batangas State University's history could be traced way back
on 1903 when Manual Training School was founded under the supervision of an
American principal, Mr. Scheer on its present site in Batangas City. Two years later it
was named Batangas Trade School, admitting only male students for gainful
occupations such as woodworking. It was destroyed by a fire on 1928 until classes
resumed on 1932. Classes were closed again after World War II broke out in the
Philippines. Five years later after the rehabilitation act, the school was named Pablo
Borbon National Trade School and further gaining a national status under the Republic
Act 746 authored by Congressman Babao. It was renamed as Pablo Borbon Regional
School of Arts and Trades on July 1, 1957. By August the same that year, the newly
appointed school superintendent Arsenio Gaularan started to offer technical courses.
He was followed by Vicente Mendoza on November 1962 and then succeeded by
Rosario De Leon the next year.
The latter's administration started to offer terminal classes in auto-mechanics,
electronics, dressmaking, machine shop practice and, radio mechanics. This was
followed on 1965 when Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education was offered after the
Republic Act 4372 took effect. As authorized by the Republic Act 5270 on 1968, Pablo
Borbon Regional School of Arts and Trades was converted into a state college under its
new name, Pablo Borbon Memorial Institute of Technology (PBMIT) with Rosauro de
Leon as its first president. At the time of its conversion, it was the 23rd state college in
the Philippines. Later on 1971, PBMIT started to offer Electrical and Mechanical
Engineering courses. Three years later, Civil Engineering was offered. The same that
year, the Graduate School was opened pioneering master's program such as Master of
Arts in Industrial Education major in Administration and Supervision. This was followed
on 1978 when Master of Management specializes in Business and Public Managements
was offered on consortium with UP College of Public Administration. Earlier on 1977, a
200-hour skills training for out-of-school youths for practical automotive, electricity, food
trades, mechanics and, woodcraft known as the Extension Trade Training Program was
introduced. Rosauro De Leon was succeeded by Isabelo R. Evangelio as college
president on 1984. Two years later, the newly appointed president, Mariano O.
Albayalde succeeded the latter, Evangelio. On 1987, a pilot class of the general
secondary curriculum with emphasis on science and mathematics was introduced on
the Secondary Department of PBMIT. By the next year, a doctoral program in Industrial
Education Management in consortium with Technological University of the Philippines
was offered. Earlier on 1986 up to 1990, the college expanded its undergraduate
programs in science, mathematics and, home economics. Mariano O. Albayalde was
followed by Ernesto M. De Chavez on 1989, becoming the fourth president of PBMIT.
More relevant courses were introduced such as Bachelor of Arts major in English,
Bachelor of Elementary and Secondary Educations and, Bachelor of Science in
Computer Science.
The next year, a special program, the Dual Training System was launched for
future technicians. This was conducted on trimester class sessions with four days in
industry and two days in school. By 1991, courses such as Bachelor of Arts in
Development Communication and Bachelor of Science in Biology were offered. From
1995 to 2000, numerous courses were offered and colleges of Accountancy, Business
and Economics, Center of Gender and Poverty Studies, Computer Studies, Food
Science and, Liberal Arts were created. Courses includes Architecture, Behavioral
Science, Business Administration, Chemical Engineering, Computer Education,
Environmental and Sanitary Engineering, Fine Arts, Guidance and Counseling,
Information System Management, Information Technology, Marine Biology, Peace and
Security Studies, Physics, Psychology, Public Administration, Secretarial
Administration, Sociology and, Statistics. Also, the Grade School Department was
established with Kindergarten I and II offered in pre-school and Grade I in elementary.
On 1984, the former Pablo Borbon Memorial Institute of Technology under the
presidency of Isabelo R. Evangelio acquired a three-hectare site at Brgy. Alangilan,
Batangas City which is now known as Governor Pablo Borbon Campus II. Within a
decade later, PBMIT Balayan Campus located in Balayan, Batangas were established
with courses offering in Automotive, Electricity, Electronics and Welding Fabrication. By
2000, extension campuses in Lipa City, Rosario San Juan and, Taysan, Batangas was
established under the authorization of a memorandum of agreement. However, the
latter Taysan Campus is now defunct.
The Apolinario R. Apacible School of Fisheries (ARASOF) located in Nasugbu,
Batangas and Jose P. Laurel Polytechnic College (JPLPC) located in Malvar, Batangas
were acquired by Batangas State University as satellite campuses after the Republic
Act 90451 was enacted on March 22, 2001. Two years later, two other extension
campuses were established; one is located in Lemery, Batangas and the other in Lobo,
Batangas. At present, Batangas State University holds a total of 10 campuses located
throughout the Province of Batangas: two main, two satellites, and six extension
campuses. Governor Pablo Borbon Campus I located in Rizal Ave., Poblacion,
Batangas City where the former Manual Training School was established in 1903 and
Pablo Borbon Memorial Institute of Technology in 1968, is the flagship campus of the
university and offers the most number of courses.

Chapter III
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING ACTIVITIES
During the first day of our Internship Training, Mr. Marlon Panganiban, the OJT
Coordinator of Keppel Batangas Shipyard brought us to the Conference Room #3 of
Administrator Building for the orientation. Rules and Regulations as well as the Duties
and Responsibilities of the trainees were discussed and explained to us. After the
orientation, we headed to the IT Department and introduced to our three bosses. The
first one that was introduced by Mr. Marlon Panganiban was Mr. Dennis Guiyab, the
Senior Systems Analyst of Keppel Batangas Shipyard, followed by Mr. Rowill Doromal
and Mr. John Christer De Castro who both work as the Programmer/ Technical Support
of the said company. After introducing oneselves, I, together with my co-trainees asked
for something to do for our first day. Mr. Dennis Guiyab requested us to encode all the
data of Senior Officers employees using MS Access which they used in the presentation
of their Appraisal Report to the board members. On the following days of our training,
Mr. Rowill and Mr. JC taught us the different techniques on how to approach different
kinds of problem regarding computers: hardware, software and computer systems that
we might encounter during the whole training. Hardware and Software Installation and
Troubleshooting, computer formatting and Networking: setting up of IP Addresses,
Domain, net support, network cabling and internet troubleshooting were discussed and
taught to us through actual activities and oral discussions. That knowledge that were
imposed to us and were gained by us brought us into completion of our Internship
Training. Through those leanings, less supervision was needed for us to accomplish a
certain task. I can also say that we produced more output consuming less time but
exerting efforts and conducting activities with accuracy and proficiency. With that
indoors and outdoors activities, we have been exposed not just to different working
environment of each and every department but also to the employees who gave their
trust to us.
Aside from conducted activities which are related to our courses, it was also our
privilege to be one of Keppel Batangas Shipyard trainees who joined the KAIZEN
Training/ Program. This program is being held very rare, that is why we felt great that
we had experienced KAIZEN Training /Program which means “Continuous
Improvement of Work”. That Program was led by Mr. Reden Atog, one of the
mechanical engineers of the company. And since our training lasted for four month, we
also spent time in Keppel Batangas during their Christmas Party held last December 18,
2011 at the company’s premises. We also dedicated two weeks of our training in parol
making for the parol making contest of each department which is done every year, but
inspite of those activities, our duties and responsibilities were never forgotten. We
always find time in solving problems of those employees and departments who
demanded for technical support. With all these experiences many leanings have been
added to ourselves that we can definitely apply on our future careers. These activities
that we had in Keppel Batangas Shipyard served as a great help for it contributed so
much on our way of interacting and approaching with problems, troubles and successes
towards things that have something to do with our careers.
Through our initiative and goal-oriented characters, we showed them that our
differences being trainees from them being employees did not hinder our interest to
learn.
Chapter IV
ACCOIMPLISHMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS
Having been expose to computer operations, technical support, software and
hardware troubleshooting and networking led me, together with my co-trainees to a
level of competencies where in we can actually interact to those employees with
different working designations as well as their employers in an equal manner. We did
our responsibilities in a way that we also act as regular employees. Accomplishing tasks
in a span of short time truly lessened the workload of our trainers. With that fact, we can
say that we contributed so much especially with these works and activities that we have
finished and outputs that we have produced:
Data of Keppel Batangas Shipyard employees, including the Project, Junior and
Senior Officers together with the Managers that were encoded in a program
using MS Access for two days and was presented during the Appraisal Report of
Mr. Guiyab and Mr. Doromal to the Board members.
Maintaining and updating all computer units of 13 departments of Keppel
Batangas Phiippines including the, Human Resouce, Information Technology,
Accounting, Commercial, Engineering, Contracts, Purchasing, ISO, Safety,
QA/QC, Project Managers Office, Planning, Production and New Building Office
with the total number of 120 personal computers and 20 additional laptops.
Troubleshooting and repairing computer units to all possible departments.
Christmas Lantern made of used papers and bamboo sticks which served as the
entry of Information Technology Department in the contest.
Scanning and editing all employees’ signatures for the development of new ID of
Keppel Batangas Shipyard.
Setting up presentations in VIP, Conference Room #3 and Training Room to
acquaint visitors.
Impact to the Field of Specification
Houses, offices, malls, schools, hospitals and many other establishments are
now using computers in order to manipulate and fasten works and transactions that they
can offer to their customers. It has also been the source of knowledge and information
which can be gathered and absorbed by not just the students and workers but also to
any other people who are interested to learn. This has also been subjected to
immediate response of people towards local and international news. Having these facts,
the world has evolved into more modernize and has uplifted the urbanization of different
countries which continuously occurring. With all these proofs, a lot of advantages to
those who took computer-related courses were offered.
Keppel Batangas Shipyard as one of the most progressive Shipyard companies
locally and internationally has also been using computer systems in doing their
transactions like log-in/log-out system, payroll system, issuance system, designing
projects and etc. These transactions are operated through computers and with that, IT
support is a great help to both employees and the company. Being a Bachelor of
Science in Information Technology student, I am very fortunate to be one of the trainees
in IT Department of Keppel Batangas Shipyard which resulted to exposure in computer-
related activities and works. Aside from that, it also added our interests on learning
more in order to develop the skills needed in the mere future.
Conclusion
In entering a new career, many things must be put into consideration. And these
things pertain to attitude as Mr. Faustino said “Attitude is everything” during his visit in
the company, performance which questions one’s ability to do work well and punctuality
that counts one’s interest and eagerness toward attending work regularly. In this phase
of learning one must shave determination to learn and experience new things through
interacting with new people and being active in different activities. In this four- month
training, I learned to adopt in environment which is 100% different from the environment
in school. I can also say that perseverance to do things, courage and interest to learn,
love for your career and faith to achieve things are the keys to attain accomplishments.
Recommendation
For the students who will take their Internship Training in the future, I will
recommend Keppel Batangas Shipyard to be their selected establishment. This
company will definitely help you aggregate your knowledge and develop self-
confidence that you can use in the world where competitions and competitive
people exist.
Never take for granted the opportunity to learn. Give time to enhance your
knowledge and to develop your skills that will surely be your asset in finding job
after college. This will help you understand more your chosen career.
