REGISTRATION BROCHURE
THE FORUM
With the rapid growth of social and economic development, promotion of efficient and environmental friendly rail transport system including high speed rail, metro, light rail transit, tram, freight rail and automatic people mover, etc., is the first priority among various transport policies in many metropolitan areas over the world. From the view of rail transport development in the Two Shores and Four Places, the construction of high speed rail in Mainland has improved the convenience of people for their everyday living. Apart from the high speed rail, urban rail transport system is proactively being planned and developed in many major cities of Mainland. In Hong Kong, the urban rail network has already covered most of the urban areas. To enhance the usage of the public transport, various extensions of railway lines are also being planned and constructed. In Macau, the light rail system is under construction. It is believed that a new look will be brought to Macau in the near future. In Taiwan, after the opening of the Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taipei Metro System and Kaohsiung Rapid Transit System, various cities have noted the importance of rail transport for urban development and hence have started to develop the rapid transport systems. Thus, there is a necessity to cooperate among various stakeholders for development of the rail transport systems in these four places so as to seek for the prosperity. In order to strengthen the cooperation and technical exchanges in the rail transport in the Two Shores and Four Places, China Communications and Transportation Association, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Rail Engineering Society of Taiwan and the Macau Institution of Engineers have co-organised a “Forum on Urban Rail/Transit Development in the Two Shores and Four Places” since 2006 to establish a platform for technical exchange of rail transport and to promote smart development for construction and operation of rail transport.
