Biography Robert Wm. Dean Executive Director Digital Business Transformation Cisco Systems Robert (Bob) Dean is the Executive Director at Cisco responsible for building and leading an organization to transform businesses on a global basis. Mr. Dean is an advisor, confidant, and consultant to senior executives and management teams in the manufacturing, technology and consulting industries worldwide. He also speaks publicly at professional events, industry forums, and universities on global business transformation, and the impact of technology on global business practices. He also advises/mentors and presents to university students on these same topics worldwide. Mr. Dean is also engaged in EU/US economic business development with embassy and consulate relationships in several EU countries and the EU delegation in the US. Before joining Cisco, Mr. Dean was the Vice President, IBM Global Services and Senior Partner at BearingPoint management consultancy where he was responsible for building and growing the worldwide Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management and IT Consulting Practices. This included both management consulting and systems integration capabilities across all manufacturing industries worldwide. He also has experience as Managing Director (UK), interim CEO, and senior executive with several world-class IT services, supply chain, sourcing and procurement consultancies. With over 25+ years of in-country international experience, Mr. Dean has Ex-Pat experience in the UK (5 years) and The Netherlands (2 years) as well as leading/managing client engagements and consulting services business units throughout Europe. Mr. Dean has a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of North Texas with a major area of study in business information systems. He is also a Certified IBM Global Services Business Transformation Consultant having led major business transformations in over 50 client companies across multiple industries around the world. Mr. Dean is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board of the College of Business at The University of North Texas. He is a former member in the Institute of Directors (UK). He has had several articles published in the Financial Times, Logistics Europe, American Shipper, Distribution, Inbound Logistics, Manufacturing Executive and other trade publications. Mr. Dean has been a guest lecturer at Henley Management College (UK), Cranfield University (UK), Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands), The University of Virginia Darden School of Business (US), Ohio State University (US) and Pennsylvania State University (US). He is an accomplished speaker at several professional conferences and universities each year on topics related to globalization, supply chain management, and information technology.

Biography

Mr. Dean’s global business transformation accomplishments include:

• For a $12 billion global manufacturing conglomerate, led the integration of sourcing and procurement process, skills and suppliers as well as IT implementation and integration across one business segment comprised of over 95 separate companies with operations in the US, UK, Europe and Asia. Resulted in over $100 million reduction in operating expenses in first 2 years.

• For a Middle East government, managed project to assess the direction of specific government agency business functions in relation to other public sector and commercial businesses. Resulted in sweeping changes in the way the government manages their sourcing, procurement and supplier relationship operations and competes regionally for resources. Also included cross-government integration of Oracle ERP system.

• For a Fortune 50 manufacturing conglomerate, led the development of operating plans for direct-to-store delivery of units. Included assessment and integration of 3rd party logistics, freight forwarders and transportation companies across all modes on a global basis. Also included IT strategies, integration of suppliers worldwide with manufacturing in Brazil and Mexico and retail operations in the United States and Canada. Focus included improvements in inventory, warehouse and transportation management functions. Resulted in multi-year plan to transform business starting with retooling manufacturing operations.

• For a worldwide manufacturer and retailer of furniture and home products, led the reengineering of their global supply chain to support the opening of multiple United States retail stores with products manufactured in Europe and Asia Pacific. Focus included improvements in inventory, warehouse and transportation management functions. Included selection and integration of 3rd party logistics, freight forwarders and transportation companies on a global basis.

• For a global world-class European automotive manufacturer, led teams to develop export of parts, assemblies and finished products from first United States based manufacturing operation to international locations, schedule and deliver inbound parts and assemblies to manufacturing plant, and redesign warehouse and inventory operation to manage increase in inventory volume. Included implementation of free trade zone and selection and integration of 3rd party logistics, freight forwarders and transportation companies on a global basis.

• For a global joint venture of AMR (parent of American Airlines) and CSX Railroad, member of executive team that developed and implemented a global cloud-based networked IT system to route, book and track freight across all modes of transport worldwide. Established European operating company in The Netherlands as a joint venture with PTT Telecom, the Dutch PTT. Developed VP-level relationships and global relationships with multiple rail, air, motor and maritime freight companies and 3 Fortune 100 manufacturing companies.
