Please carefully read the following information to ensurethat you do not invalidate your 15 year warranty.

TONGUE & GROOVE INSTALLATION

TONGUE & GROOVE INSTALLATION

Please be aware that these instructions are not exhaustive, ifyou require further information, advice or are in any doubt asto how to proceed please contact the Rearo technical teamon 0141 440 0800.

Please also note that for all installations there are somegeneral, simple guidelines which must be followed withoutwhich our warranty would be invalidated including:• all exposed edges of panels must be sealed.• panels should never be fitted directly onto a shower tray

without adequate sealing. Please see instructions.

Note: It is always wise to dry fit first to ensure a good fit.

Tools

We recommend that the following tools areavailable prior to installation.

• Pencil & Ruler • Measuring Tape• Jigsaw or Hand saw• Masking Tape• High-grab adhesive• Silicone Sealant

Wall preparation

It is essential that walls should becompletely dry before installing Selkie andany source of dampness is treated.Wherever possible, remove existing wallcoverings such as wall paper and fabrics. There is no need to make good thesurface to be covered.

Groundwork

Rearo do not recommend direct fixingof tongue & groove boards to masonry, cement or plastered surfaces, howeverflat and well finished.

The best results for Selkie™ “Tongue andGroove” are achieved by securely fixing agroundwork of horizontal timber battens

e.g. 25mm x 50mm (rot proofed ifrequired) at maximum 600mm centres, packed out to a true, flat and plumbsurface. Always ensure a batten is placedat the extreme top and bottom of thepanels. Vertical panels will be necessaryaround windows and doors. Additionalbattens must be used where heavy itemssuch as cabinetry and sanitary-ware are tobe fixed.

Cutting of Panels

When using a jig-saw (with upward cuttingjig-saw blade), panels should be cut fromthe back, decorative face down (Fig1) toprevent chipping of the laminatesurface. When using a standard hand saw- decorative face should be UP (Fig 2).

For the best results - where possible applymasking tape along the line of cut.

Cutting Apertures

Although Selkie Board has a highly durablefinish, care should be taken when cuttingapertures or inspection hatches.

Internal corners of apertures and cut outsMUST always be smoothly radiused to aslarge as possible, with a 5mm minimumradius. This radius should be increased asthe side lengths of the aperture areincreased. (Fig 4)

Ensure that wooden blocks are placedbelow your drilling areas to prevent' burstout' and any possible damage to thedecorative face.

Mark out cutting shape to rear face anddrill positions on front ensuring one at eachcorner.

Drill holes at suitable intervals aroundperimeter of shape on front face.

Leave a 3mm clearance around all pipesand accessories and seal with siliconesealant.

Using jigsaw, slowly cut around perimeterof shape on rear face, taking care to retainthe radius in the corners.

Ensure that your fitting overlaps theaperture cut-out. (fig 6)

When using a circular saw or fine-toothblade hand-saw, panels should be cutdecorative face up, with the protective filmremoved from the cutting line only

When measuring distance from walls, orpast shower enclosures, allowancesshould be made for the thickness ofaluminium profiles and the space betweenwalls and profiles.

Installation for a 2 or 3 sidedshower enclosure

For larger installations Selkie Board may besupplied as a Tongue and Groove option -this is often a more practical option andtogether with colour matched sealantresults in a professional installation. (fig 7)

Plan the room

Start in the corner furthest from the door, fix Selkie™ panels with 3/4" x No. 6 woodscrews through the back shoulder of thegroove (ensure that screw heads do notobstruct the tongue of the next panel, insert the tongue of the next panel into thegroove and fix as before.(Fig 8)

Fixing tongue and groove panels

Tongue and groove panels should be dryjointed prior to final installation to ensure asufficiently flush and tight joint will beachieved between all panels and also toensure colour consistency betweenpanels.

Screws should be at 400 – 600mmcentres with the bottom screw a maximumof 35mm from the bottom edge of thepanel.

Panels should always be screwed to thehorizontal timber battens to ensure asmooth surface at maximum 600mmcentres.(Fig 9)

Around the Room

Continue to work around the room, apply aribbon of colour match sealant onto thelong shoulder of the tongue of the nextpanel to be inserted. Insert the edge of thenext panel. Again fix the panels into placethrough the back of the groove.

Cut the last panel of this wall section tosize, fit corner profile to panel and swingpanel into position. Screw fix profile alongthe free edge, again continue installing thepanels, as before.

For the last panel above the door, cut tosize from the groove edge leaving thetongue intact. Rebate the back edge andinsert the tongue into the groove (fig 6). Fixthe rebated edge to the battens with paneladhesive.

Internal corners. (Fig 10)

First fix an internal corner profile in positionensuring that it is plumb. Cut off tongueedge to be fixed into profile, apply sealantalong profile recess.

Please note: take care not to applyexcessive silicone to channels in profiles

Insert the cut edge of the panel (fig 4).

Using a 3/4 No6 screw, fix the oppositeedge to the batten through the back of thegroove.

External corners (Fig 11)

Cut panel to size.

Locate edge profile on square edge andplace panel into position (fig 7).

Fix using 3/4 No6 screws throughexposed profile section tongue. A fewdabs of sealant applied to the battens willhelp secure the panel.

Trim tongue of next panel, insert into profileand continue to fix as normal.

The external corner profile can (when required) also be used around windowsills.

Use of an “L section” or an end cap profileis preferred if a profile is required aroundthe entire windows recess.

If cutting an external corner for use aroundwindow frames a ‘packing piece’ shouldbe used.
