Truth, for an ordinary mortal, can not be objective. His

subjective weakness always blurs his vision. Hegals great

contribution to human thought was the discovery of

historical relativism. Human mind, he found, could climb

out of its environments and view objectively from anabsolute stand point. But in India from times immemorial,

the masters have laid down that by ceaseless efforts of

assiduous detachment to worldly things, the mind can

become detached, fearless and untainted by wrath; It can

then transcend direct and inferential knowledge. Fancy,

even memory and with vision indimmed, can see the truth

as it is, which is entirely different from what seems to us

and what we call truth.

Rosary

Mary, said a young girl to a Catholic friend, why do you

carry that rosary everywhere, and what possible good does it

do to you to count those beads over and over again?

Oh answered Mary, I never could make you understand

what a comfort this rosary is to me, When I am tired out, or

blue or discouraged about anything, or when I long very much

for something that it seems impossible I should ever get it, I

take my rosary and begin to pray. Before I have gone over half

of its beads, everything is changed. The tired, discouraged

feeling is gone. If I have been asking for something I long to

have, it does not seem nearly so far away as before and I

know that if I do not get just what I ask for, I will get something

better.

Those who are too narrow minded or too prejudicial to see

anything good in a creed which is not their own, often sneer at

the Catholic custom of Saying the beads of rosary. To them

it is only superstition, nonsense, to repeat the same

prayer over and over again. These people do not understand

the philosophy as well as the religion underlying this beautiful

old custom. They do not know the power that inheres in the

repetition of the spoken word, and in the influence of the

thought expressed.

Anyone can prove this for himself. It is not necessary to

get a rosary made of beads. You can make your own, an

intangible but very real rosary, and if you say it over, not once,

or twice a day, but over many times, and especially before

retirement at night, you will be surprised at these wonderful

results.

It is a fault you wish to correct? It is a talent or gift you

desire to develop and improve? It is contentment, peace of

mind, happiness power to serve, power in your work whatever

it is you desire, make it a bead in your rosary, pray for its

accomplishment, think of it, work for its fulfillment and your

desire will materialize.

Simran

In my childhood, my nurse Rambha suggested as a

remedy for my fear of ghosts, the repetition of the Name of

Rama. I had more faith in her then her remedy and so at a

tender age I tried this method to cure my fear. It was of course

short-lived, but the good seed sown in childhood was not

sown in vain. I think it is due to the seed sown by that good

woman Rambha that today the repetition of the Name of Rama

has become an infallible remedy for me in times of trouble.
