대한 의견을 묻는 설문을 실시해오고 있습니다.

2017년 4분기 85개국 1293명의 CEO들을 대상으로 진행된 스물한 번째 서베이 (21st Global CEO Survey)의 결과가

2018년 1월 22일 저녁 스위스 다보스에서 발표됐습니다. 전 세계 최고경영자(CEO)들이 글로벌 경제 성장을 바라보는

시각과 이를 통해 파생되는 개별 기업의 성장 전략을 가늠해볼 수 있는 서베이 최종 결과를 간략히 살펴 보면 다음과

같습니다.

• 글로벌 경제 성장에 대한 CEO들의 낙관론을 설문에 참여한 모든 국가에서 기록적으로 높은 수준을 보였습니다.

• 가장 많은 CEO들이 매력적인 투자국으로 미국을 꼽았습니다.

• 한국은 올해 매력적인 투자국 순위 14위로 랭크, 처음으로 순위권에 진입했습니다.

낙관적으로 전망


설문에 참여한 다수의 CEO들이 향후

12개월 내 글로벌 경제가 ‘성장할 것’

이라고 전망했습니다.

이는 전년도 29% 대비 두 배에 가까운

수치이며, 2012년 글로벌 경제

성장에 대해 질문을 던진 이래 최대의

증가폭입니다.

• 글로벌 경제 전망에 있어서, 2017년은

최고의 해로 기록 될 것입니다.

• 세계 경제에 대한 낙관적인 전망은

Q How confident are you about your organisation’s prospects for revenue growth over the next 12 months?

개별 기업에 대한 성장 전망은 세계 경제에

대한 낙관적인 견해에 비해, 북아메리카

지역을 제외하고는 다소 조심스러운

편입니다.

• CEO들이 가지고 있는 세계 경제 성장에

대한 낙관론이 자신들의 기업에 대한

낙관론으로 이어지지는 않고 있습니다.

• 미국은 53%의 CEO들이 올해 이후에도

자신들의 기업 성장에 대하여 낙관적인

견해를 가지고 있는 반면, 다른 지역의

최고경영자들은 이에 대하여 조심스러운

입장입니다.

• 미국 최고경영자들의 61%가 M&A를

기업 성장의 한 방법으로 생각한다고 답한

반면, 유럽의 CEO들은 45%만이 그렇게

생각하고 있었습니다(전세계 평균은 42%).

• 2015년까지 러시아와 브라질이 원자재

가격 폭락으로 어려움을 겪었고, 그리스를

비롯한 남유럽 국가들이 파산 직전의

상황이었습니다. 그러나, 2018년 현재

세계 원자재 가격이 정상 수준으로

회복되면서 러시아와 브라질의 경제 성장

전망 역시 긍정적으로 회귀하는 한편,

Brexit로 어려움을 예상했던 유로존 역시

정상 회복 단계로 들어섰습니다.

• 미국은 트럼프 행정부의 친 기업 정책과

과감한 감세 정책으로 기업들이 자신감을

회복하면서 주식시장 역사상 가장 긴

호황을 누리고 있습니다.

• 그러나, 이러한 글로벌 경제 호황에

대한 CEO들의 견해는 ‘금융위기 이후

경기순환측면에서 회복 단계에 들어선

것’이라는 생각과 ‘오래 지속되지 않는

단기적인 호황’이라는 견해로 나뉘는 것을

볼 수 있습니다.

공급 제한은 있으나, 세계에서 가장 높은 노동생산성을 가진

지역으로 생각한다고 답했습니다.

• 특히 최근의 감세정책이 미국에 대한 직접 투자 매력을

증가시킨다고 답했습니다.

• 반면, 중국은 27%가 매력적인 투자처라고 답했는데, 이에 대해

중국 정부는 이미 해외투자자들의 중국내 직접투자가 감소되는

것을 인지하고, 금융서비스 시장을 포함하여 시장 전반적으로

중요한 개혁을 진행하고 있습니다.

• 이를 통해 알 수 있는 것은 글로벌 성장에 대한 경영자들의

확신은 높아졌지만, 투자에 있어서는 여전히 단기적으로

안정적인 성장이 예상되는 지역을 선호하는 경향을 보인다는

것입니다.

• 특히 단기적인 성장 목표를 달성하기 위해 소비자에 대한

접근성, 기술, 금융 및 우호적인 규제 환경이 갖춰진 지역이

매력적인 투자 시장으로 꼽히고 있습니다.

향후 3개년 동안 기업의 성장 전망에 대해서는 다소 낮은 자신감을 보였으며,

특히 중동지역과 유럽 중남부 지역의 CEO들은 33%만이 긍정적이라고 답했습니다.


• 이번 CEO 서베이 결과에서 흥미로운 점은 CEO들의 개별 기업에

대한 성장 전망입니다.

• 보통 최고경영자들은 장기 전망이 단기 전망보다 긍정적인 경우가

많은데, 이번 설문조사에서는 그 반대의 결과를 보였습니다.

이유로는 전 세계적으로 불안한 정치 상황, 테러, 새로운

기술의 등장으로 급격하게 변화하는 외부 환경에 기인한 것으로

추측됩니다.

• 또한 CEO들이 글로벌 전망에 대해서는 전반적으로 낙관적으로

바라보지만, 자신이 경영하는 기업에 대해서는 다소 불안한 전망을

하고 있습니다.

• 이는 올해 설문조사에 참여한 CEO들은 반 이상이 최고경영자로서

5년 미만의 재임 경험으로 과거 심각한 불황 속에서 기업을

이끌어 온 경험이 없는 세대이기 때문인 것도 하나의 이유로 볼 수

있습니다.

기업의 성장에 위협이 되는 항목에 대한 평가 점수가 예년 대비 올랐으며,

작년과 동일하게 기업의 위협이 될 사안으로 ‘과도한 규제’를 들었음.

올 해 설문조사에서 크게 순위가 올라간 항목은 2008년에 12위를 차지했던

‘테러’로, 올해 2위에 올라섰고, 지정학적 불확실성에 대한 우려도 높은

순위로 랭크 되었음.

• 아시아 지역의 CEO는 기술의 가용성(52%),

기술 변화의 속도(51%), 테러리즘(48%),

사이버 위협(44%), 그리고 과도한 규제

(42%) 순으로 우려를 나타냈습니다.

• 한 가지 눈여겨볼 사항은 테크놀로지의

발달로 인한 성장의 기회 못지 않게

여기에서 파생되는 다양한 위험 요소에 대한

우려 역시 높다는 점입니다. 이전에 진행된

PwC 조사에 의하면, AI는 2030년까지

글로벌 GDP에 추가적으로 15,7tillion

USD를 증가시킬 것으로 예상됩니다.

그러나 사이버 위협, 기술 변화의 속도,

그리고 그 기술의 가용성에 대한 CEO들의

우려 역시 상당히 높은 것으로 보여집니다.

• 설문에 참여한 CEO들은 본인이 경영하는

기업이 속한 시장의 변동성보다 거시적인

측면의 사회적, 지정학적인 변화에 대한

우려가 더 높았습니다. 이와 관련된 위험

요소들이 해소되지 않는다면 중장기적으로

기업의 성장에 대한 확신이 감소될 수 밖에

없을 것입니다.

• 북미의 CEO들은 사이버 위협(53%), 과도한

규제(50%), 지역적인 불확실성(44%), 테러

(43%), 그리고 기술 변화의 속도(34%)에

대해 심각한 우려를 나타냈습니다.

• 서유럽 지역의 CEO들은 포퓰리즘(42%)

을 가장 큰 위험 요소로 보았고, 이어서

과도한 규제(35%), 지역적인 불확실성

측정하는 과거의 방식이 미래에서는 더 이상 유효하지 않다는 것을 인지하고 있었다.
