Tenneco’s Commitment to China’s Commercial Vehicle MarketFounded in 2014, Tenneco’s new wholly-owned Clean Air research, development and manufacturing facility is an example of the company’s commitment to China’s fast-growing commercial vehicle market.

Located in Kunshan near Shanghai, the facility is dedicated to emission control product design, development, testing and prototyping, customer application and industrialization for Tenneco’s growing OE commercial vehicle businesses, including on commercial truck and off-highway vehicles, as well as applications for marine, locomotive and stationary engines.

The 10,200-square meter facility currently has 150 employees, of which 120 are engineering and testing personnel. When fully commissioned, the facility will employ nearly 400 people, with approximately 240 engineers.

Tenneco’s unique systems integration skills and experience in mechatronics, combined with its experienced staff of engineers, offers customers an optimized emission control solution which balances engine, fuel and aftertreatment technology.

R&D CapabilitiesThe Kunshan facility sets a new standard for emission control engineering centers in the region with leading-edge engineering, testing and prototyping capabilities, as well as advanced mechatronics and systems integration laboratories.

The facility’s capabilities include robust system design and analysis, 3D and 2D modeling, control simulation, acoustic analysis and CFD simulation, application development for marine locomotive and stationary engines including hardware, software and testing capabilities.

XNOx TM Center of ExcellenceThe Kunshan facility is the main manufacturing location outside of North America for Tenneco’s XNOx™ Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology for commercial vehicle applications in China. XNOx™ combines Tenneco’s expertise in calibrating urea dosing systems with top-performing components such as the company’s XNOx injector to deliver an optimized solution with more than 95 percent NOx conversion efficiency.

XNOx™ Air Assisted SCR is a Euro V compliant system developed for the China market which provides an economical alternative to traditional SCR. Featuring a compact and integrated tank, controller and pump assembly, this innovative technology meters the right balance of air and urea together to produce an atomized spray that minimizes deposit formation. The intelligent design can be readily adapted to the existing muffler box space to drive down cost and facilitate integration onto the vehicle.

Large Engine Global Development CenterTenneco is a full systems supplier and systems integrator for large engine applications. The company works in close collaboration with its customers to develop emission control solutions for marine, locomotive and stationary engines up to 10,000 HP.

Tenneco (Suzhou) Emission System is a global center of excellence for engineering, testing and prototyping the components, products and systems that make up the company’s large engine portfolio. Part of this portfolio is an ultra-large diameter (24 inch) selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst developed in partnership with Cormetech Inc. The ultra-large catalyst can handle about 1 million watts or 1300HP of engine exhaust flow, approximately the same amount of exhaust flow as three conventional on-road catalysts, making it easier to package for large engine applications. The catalyst supports a significant reduction in backpressure, allowing large engines to operate with maximum efficiency.
