    TOPIC 8 : STRATEGIES FOR DIVERSE LEARNERS

    Based on the TWO topics above, you are requested to:

    1. Gather information and read at least FIVE articles of printed materials / internet

    connection on the two topics.

    2. Summarize all information gathered from all the FIVE articles.

    3. Based on the information, construct an appropriate mind map / flow chart / graphical

    management about science teaching strategies for diverse cultural needs of the

    population, gender differences, differences of students and children with special

    needs.

    Introduction

    Definition was clearly stated and objective of assignment was clear and precise with relevantliterature support.

    INTRODUCTION

    In Malaysia, the objective of nation building and forging national unity amongst the

    various ethnic groups ranks very high in her educational and political agendas. In fact

    national unity and integration are the cornerstone of the education policy. It was stated as our

    major goals of the national education policy as the following: To inculcate and nurture

    national consciousness through fostering common ideals, values, aspiration and loyalties in

    order to mould national unity and national identity in a multi-ethnic society.

    These public school teachers are expected to teach a diversified group of students

    including students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds and students who may

    or may not have disabilities.Teachers who teach in inclusive and diverse classrooms must

    implement several key strategies in order to ensure that each student in that particular

    classroom truly feels like he/she belongs.

    A unique characteristic of our schools here in Malaysia, is that the students are from

    many different ethnic groups. But here in peninsular there are only 3 main races, namely

    Malay, Chinese and Indian. These three dominant ethnic groups have their own beliefs,

    culture, values and norms that will affects their behaviors and actions. Its a goal of

    Malaysian education and schooling practice to enhance social integration among these

    various ethnic groups beyond mere physical integration, and intends to eliminate social

    prejudices and discrimination.

    In this assignment, we are required to picks 5 chosen articles from any valid sources

    and summarized it all. We also must construct an appropriate mind map, flow chart or

    graphical management about science teaching strategies for diverse cultural needs of the

    population, gender differences, differences of students and children with special needs.
