ARAHAN KEPADA PELAJAR / INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS
1. Tugasan ini mengandungi SATU (1) soalan sahaja yang disediakan dalam bahasa modul bercetak kursus ini. / This assignment contains only ONE (1) question that is set in the language of the printed module for the course.
2. Jawab dalam Bahasa Melayu atau Bahasa Inggeris. / Answer in Malay or English.
3. Muat turunkan templet tugasan versi bahasa yang berkenaan daripada MyVLE untuk penyediaan dan penyerahan tugasan anda. Tugasan anda hendaklah ditaip dengan menggunakan saiz fon 12 Times New Roman dan langkau baris 1.5. / Download the language version of the assignment template concerned from the MyVLE for preparation and submission of your assignment. Your assignment should be typed using 12 point Times New Roman font and 1.5 line spacing.
4. Tugasan anda hendaklah antara 2000 hingga 2500 patah perkataan tidak termasuk rujukan. Bilangan perkataan hendaklah ditunjukkan di hujung tugasan anda. Jangan menyalin soalan dan arahan tugasan dalam jawapan anda. / Your assignment should be between 2000 and 2500 words excluding references. The number of words should be shown at the end of your assignment. Do not copy the assignment question and instructions to your answer.
5. Anda dikehendaki menghantar tugasan SECARA ON-LINE melalui MyVLE. Sila rujuk kepada portal untuk arahan mengenai prosedur menghantar tugasan anda secara on-line . Anda dinasihatkan menyimpan senaskah tugasan yang diserahkan untuk rujukan sendiri. / You must submit your assignment ON-LINE via the MyVLE. Refer to the portal for instructions on the procedures to submit your assignment on-line. You are advised to keep a copy of your submitted assignment for personal reference.
6. Anda hanya boleh menghantar tugasan SEKALI sahaja dalam SATU fail. / You can submit your assignment ONCE only in a SINGLE file.
7. Tugasan anda hendaklah diserahkan antara 28 Jun 2011 hingga 10 Julai 2011. Serahan selepas 10 Julai 2011 TIDAK akan diterima. / Your assignment must be submitted between 28 June 2011 and 10 July 2011. Submission after 10 July 2011 will NOT be accepted.
8. Tugasan hendaklah disiapkan secara individu. Anda dilarang meniru tugasan orang lain. Anda juga dilarang sama sekali memplagiat kerja orang lain sebagai kerja sendiri . /Your assignment should be prepared individually. You should not copy another person’s assignment. ASSIGNMENT QUESTION: TASK
OBJECTIVES OF TASK : (30 marks)
The objective of this task is to assess your ability to:
search for information;
write an essay type assignment using Microsoft Word;
acknowledge other authors’ work, and
demonstrate logical arguments/discussions with supporting facts and
evidences.
REQUIREMENT OF TASK
Produce a 2000-2500- word academic report based on the given scenario.
Being an online learner requires different sets of skills from those required of traditional
learners.
Describe THREE main skills that are essential to an online learner. Discuss why these
skills are essential for an online learner. Provide suggestions on how online learners can
learn these skills or improve themselves in the skills that you have identified.
1. Before writing the essay, students must carry out research on Internet or OUM’s
Digital Library (DL).
2. Find at least FIVE relevant journal articles/ materials from the DL/ the Internet/
newspapers, on the topic given. Read the journals.
3. Write the academic report.
GUIDELINES FOR ANSWERING TASK
1. To know more on how to write a good essay type of assignment, read Topic 5 of
the module.
2. To answer this task, you need to search for information.
(a) Information on essential skills for online learners can be found in
myLibrary and search engines (i.e. Google, Yahoo).
(b) To get more information on the topic, read Topics 7, 8 and 9 of your
OUMH1103 module to learn about Information Retrieval Skills.
(c) Select only scholarly articles that are relevant to the assignment topic. The
resources of information obtained and used in your writing must be listed
in the Reference section.
3. Assignment Format:
(a) Title page
As shown in Appendix 1.
(b) Table of content
List of headings and sub-headings with page numbers.
(c) Introduction
(i) Write the background of the problem here. State at least two
challenges that are faced by online learners that are not faced by
traditional learners.
(ii) Provide the scope of your report—state what the reader can expect
to find in the report. (In this section, provide your audience with
the topic (essential skills for online learners), the preview of the
main discussion in your report (reasons why the identified skills
are essential and ways to learn/ improve in the skills) and the data
source for your report (for example, the main findings of the report
are based on a secondary research)
(d) Findings
The findings section should comprise the following:
Three essential skills that are important to online learners and reasons why
these skills are important. (This is to be based on findings from secondary
research).
(e) Conclusion
Based on your findings, state your conclusion. In your conclusion, state
the following:
Evaluation based on findings made (Restate the importance of the skills
and identify the problems that online learners would face if they have not
acquired the skills that you have identified).
(f) Recommendation
The recommendation section should comprise the following:
Three practical ways that can be employed by online learners to learn the
skills OR to improve in the skills identified. (This is to be based on
findings from secondary research).
(g) Use suitable facts from the journals/ internet articles/ newspapers to
support your writing, with proper quotations or paraphrasing of outside
sources. Acknowledge these sources accordingly (with proper in-text
citation and referencing style).
Marks will be deducted if the in-text citation is wrongly written.
Deduction of marks will be based on the severity of the problem.
Reminder:
Marks will be severely affected or student may be awarded with a ‘0’
if work is not original.
(h) References
(i) List at least FIVE references (books, e-books, journals, e-journals,
newspaper articles, websites, etc)
(ii) These references must be written using the APA citation style
(Topic 5 of OUMH 1103). Marks will be deducted if the references
are wrongly written. Deduction of marks will be based on the
severity of the problem.
(i) Language
6 marks will be awarded for language. Marks will be deducted
for serious language and grammar problems. Deduction of marks
will be based on the severity of the problem.

PENILAIAN / EVALUATION
Tugasan ini akan menyumbangkan 30 % daripada jumlah markah kursus berkenaan dan akan dinilai berdasarkan kepada Rubrik. / This assignment accounts for 30 % of the total marks for the course and shall be assessed based on the Rubrics.
Anda akan diberikan maklum balas tentang tugasan ini sebelum Peperiksaan Akhir Semester bermula / You would be given feedback of the assignment before the Final Semester Examination commences.
