The ZFL is an interdisciplinary center of the University of Bonn dedicated to research and teaching in geomatics esp. in the fields of remote sensing, photogrammetry, GIS and spatial analysis. It was founded in 2001 with the objective
to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration within the University of Bonn and to foster research and teaching activities in these fields. In 2011, ZFL became a partner of the newly founded priority research focus GEOMATICS of the Department of Geography.
At ZFL, scientists and students from various research fields get the opportunity to use a highly sophisticated and well-equipped remote sensing laboratory for their research activities.
ZFL staff » provides general advice on geomatics
related questions » assists in solving complex research
problems » advises in implementing project ideas related
to our fields of research.
Centralizing the remote sensing facilities of several university institutes makes a high degree of scientific exchange possible.
ZFL ExpertiseAbout ZFL Teaching & Research
ZFL runs a comprehensive teaching program including:
» regular colloquia with external speakers
» a semi-annual workshop with presentations of current research activities and projects
» technical seminars for internal exchange of information, tools and program codes
» introductory lectures and exercises as well as advanced classes on remote sensing and GIS.
This flexible teaching concept enables ZFL to consider proposals and specific needs of interested researchers. On condition that there is sufficient demand, seminars or courses on the suggested topics can be organized.
Additionally, ZFL staff members conduct their own research projects on a variety of subjects and in different locations - they are financed by external funding organizations, e.g. FP7, DFG, BMWI, BMBF, ESA & DLR.
ZFL is open for cooperation with other scientists and institutions in the research fields of geomatics.
As an interdisciplinary center we offer expertise in, e.g.
» Time series analysis » Regression analysis » Change detection » Data fusion » Pattern recognition » Advanced image classification » Coherence analysis » Geospatial modeling » Image pre-processing » Object-based image analysis » Hyperspectral analysis » Spatial analysis » Interferometry » Radar image analysis » Digital elevation models
