Llofnod Dyddiad

Your right to request a meeting with the school’s governing body The Schools Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013 (The Act) removed the requirement for school governing bodies to hold an annual meeting with parents. Instead, new arrangements were introduced to enable parents to request up to 3 meetings in any school year with a governing body, on matters which are of concern to them. If parents wish to use their rights under the Act to hold a meeting, 4 conditions will need to be satisfied:

1. Parents will need to raise a petition in support of holding a meeting The parents of at least 10% of the school’s registered pupils will need to sign the petition. If it is a paper petition, then a written signature must be given as well as the name and class of each child who is a registered pupil at the school. If the petition is in electronic format, the ‘signature’ required is the typed name of the parent plus the name and class of each child who is a registered pupil at the school and the email address of each parent who ‘signs’ the electronic petition. There were 125 children registered as pupils with this school at the beginning of this academic year. Exact roll numbers at any time during the year may be obtained from the school office.

2. The meeting must be called to discuss matters which affect the school The meeting cannot be called to discuss such matters as the progress of individual pupils, or to make a complaint against a member of the school’s staff or governing body. The petition should contain brief details of the matter(s) to be discussed, and the reasons for calling the meeting. This information should be clearly displayed at the top of the petition, with parents’ signatures appearing below.

3. A maximum of 3 meetings can be held during the school year The law allows parents to use their rights to request up to 3 meetings with a school governing body during the school year.

4. There must be at least 25 school days left in the school year The law makes it a condition that at least 25 school days are left in the school year when the petition is received so that the meeting can be held. A “school day” means a day when the school is open to pupils: it does not include weekends, public holidays, school holidays or INSET days.

Parent Governor VacanciesWhen a vacancy arises on the governing body for a parent representative, the school will inform all parents of the vacancy and will make the necessary arrangements for the subsequent election. Every parent of a registered student at the school will be entitled to stand as a candidate and to vote at the election. Each parent will be provided with a letter via student post and a nomination form. The nomination form and personal statement must be returned to the school by the set date. Elections will be held by secret ballot. The next scheduled election of Parent Governor is September 2015.

ETHOS AND VALUES OF THE SCHOOLThe aim of the school is to try to ensure that the education provided enhances the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of each pupil and that the nature of the curriculum is varied, expansive and balanced so that each pupil may be prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.The core values of the school can best be highlighted in the school motto of‘Through Effort I will Succeed.’ This is the common core element that we strive for and try to implement in all aspects of the children’s time here with us in Ysgol Pant y Rhedyn.

In addition the children are also asked to learn five golden words (in Welsh) whichhelp us to foster a positive attitude towards our school and our learning. The six golden words are:-

Ar ol tynnu amser egwyl, mae disgyblion yn cael eu haddysgu am gyfanswm o 25 awr yr wythnos (mae’r cyfanswm yn cynnwys gwasanaethau). Byddai’n cael ei werthfawrogi pe bai rhieni’n sicrhau bod eu plant yn brydlon ar ddechrau’r sesiwn ysgol a’u bod yn cael eu casglu yn brydlon ar ddiwedd y diwrnod ysgol. Mae’r gloch yn cael ei chanu am 9:00a.m. Byddai’n cael ei werthfawrogi pe bai rhieni yn gadael yr ysgol pan mae’r gloch yn canu. TOILEDAUMae 2 set o doiledau yn yr ysgol ar gyfer y disgyblion. Mae'r disgyblion yn cael mynediad atynt trwy gydol y dydd. Mae yna 2 toiled ar gyfer y staff. Glanhawr yr ysgol sy’n gyfrifol am ofalu am y toiledau. Caiff y toiledau eu glanhau yn ddyddiol a’u hadnewyddu gyda chyflenwad o bapur toiled sebon a thywelion sychu.

Pupils are not allowed to leave the school premises during the school day unless this has been authorised by their parents (usually by means of a letter).

PlaytimeAll pupils have a break from lessons during the school day. At present the break times run as follows:-Morning break- 10:45 until 11:00amLunch Break- 12:00 until 1:00pmAfternoon Break- 2:15pm until 2:25pm.

Children mainly play on the yard, but are allowed onto the fields when the weather is dry. The school has Playground Buddies who encourage children to play positively and who share out play resources. The fruit tuck shop is open usually during the first break and pupils can purchase fruit for 25p or they can bring their own healthy snack. Chocolate and crisps are not permitted during this time.

BUILDINGSThe Governing body sub-panel meet on an annual basis in order to discuss the state of the buildings. This report is available on request.

TOILETSThere are 2 sets of toilets at the school for pupils. The pupils have access to them throughout the day. The toilets are fairly old but are in good condition and they have been painted in 2011. They are attractive and age appropriate.There is soap and handtowels available.

There are 2 sets of toilet in the coat area:*Toilets for the boys=1 large urinal and x4 cubicle and 4 sinks*Toilets for the girls x6 cubicles and 8 sinks. There is soap and hand drying towels available. There are two toilets . The school’s cleaner is responsible for the toilets. The toilets are cleaned daily and replenished with toilet paper, soap and hand drying towels.

The school is currently regarded as being in Category 4 for the use of Welsh by the Welsh Government. This means that the school is ‘Predominantly an English Medium primary school but with significant use of Welsh’

In junior stage, both Welsh and English is used in teaching but there is greater emphasis on English.Welsh is used as the medium of teaching or learning for between 25% and 50% of the primary curriculum overall .The day to day language or languages of the school are determined by the school’s linguistic context. Both languages are used as languages of communication with the pupils and for the school’s administration. A high priority is given to creating a Welsh ethos. The school communicates with parents in both languages. The majority of pupils transfer to Welsh second language secondary schools. We do have some children who come from a Welsh speaking background. In these instances, pupils will be afforded every opportunity to follow the Welsh 1 st language curriculum and will be assessed accordingly.This is also the case with pupils who show an excellent grasp for the language. These pupils will be included on our More Able and Talented register. For latecomers, pupils are afforded the opportunity to attend the Welsh unit in Dolgarrog. Further information regarding this can be found in our school handbook and by contacting the Headteacher.

The school continues to feed four secondary schools these being Ysgol Friars,Aberconwy,Tryfan and Ysgol y Creuddyn. Should parents wish for their children to attend a Welsh First Language school such as Tryfan or Creuddyn then it would be advisable for you to inform the school at the earliest possible moment in order for the school to try to prepare your child fully for this transfer.

Dosbarthiadau/ ClassesAr gyfer mis Medi 2012-13 mae dau B3 / 4 dosbarth a dau B5 / 6 dosbarth. Ar gyfer y sesiynau bore, bydd Mrs Hardwidge ymuno â'r tîm B3 / 4 er mwyn creu addysgu dosbarthiadau llai ar gyfer B3 / 4. Bydd y pennaeth hefyd yn ymuno â thîm B5 / 6 ar gyfer addysgu sesiynau maths.CPA yn cael eu cwmpasu gan Lynne Hardwidge Jones.

Ym mis Medi 2013, rydym yn rhagweld y bydd angen i greu trydydd dosbarth Y34 er mwyn ymdopi â'r cynnydd mewn niferoedd.

For September 2012-13 there are two Y3/4 classes and two Y5/6 classes. For the morning sessions, Mrs Hardwidge will join the Y3/4 team in order to create smaller teaching classes for Y3/4. The HT will also join the Y5/6 team for the teaching of maths.PPA sessions are covered by Lynne Hardwidge Jones.

In September 2013, we envisage the need to create a third Y34 class in order to cope with the increase in numbers.

Pam Pierce ydi'r Llywodraethwr sydd gyda chyfrifoldeb ar gyfer ADY ac Amddiffyn Plant.Ym mis Medi, bydd Mrs Kay Davies yn cynorthwyo Mrs Pierce gyda'r ddwy rôl hyn. Mae'r Cod Ymarfer yn cael ei dilyn drwy ddarparu cynlluniau unigol ar gyfer pob plentyn ar y gofrestr ADY. Mae rhieni yn cael cyfleoedd i drafod datblygiad eu plentyn yn ystod y flwyddynThe Governor with a curricular responsibilty for ALN and Child Protection is Mrs Pam Pierce.The Code of Practice has been followed through providing individualized plans for every child on the ALN register. Parents are given opportunities to discuss their child’s development during the year.In September, Mrs Kay Davies will be assisting Mrs Pierce with both these roles.

HMSCynhelir cyfarfodydd yn rheolaidd ar brynhawn dydd Mawrth er mwyn trafod meysydd addysgol amrywiol. Teachers and Support Staff attended a large number of courses that were compatible with the School’s Development Plan’s priorities and their own professional

development.This year the school fostered some close links with Casllwchwr Primary school. This was in order to develop Digital Literacy within the school. All staff were also give further Inset on the use of IPADs which is something that the school has moved on with.Further school Inset was provided for Science,Maths and English which are key elements in our School Development Plan. The school has also begun implementing the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework.

How well do pupils achieve at the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6)?

At the end of Year 6, pupils are assessed against National Levels of Attainment in Maths, English and Science. All children progress at different rates, but a typical pupil will reach Level 4.There were 26 pupils in the Year 6 class last year. These tables show the percentage of pupils who reached the expected level in all of these subjects, and also the levels reached throughout Wales during the previous year. I would like to thank the teachers and classroom assistants for their hard work over the year in helping the children reach their potential.

THE SCHOOL YEAR

TEACHING & LEARNINGHow are we making sure that every child receive teaching to meet their individual needs?Literacy – Two Classroom Assistants work with individual pupils throughout the whole school to help improve their reading skills. We also have many volunteers coming in to read with some children. We have a Catchup scheme to target individual who need that extra push with reading which is ran by Mrs Gweno Bond and Mrs Sharon Owen. Mrs Vivienne Barton will also be assisting from September onwards. Direct Phonics are also taught to some children and pupils with ALN have access to the Daily Diary Scheme.

Numeracy – Pupils continue to be ‘setted’ for Maths in Y34. We also have an ex-secondary school maths teacher who provides extra support for pupils with maths.

Teaching - Learning Objectives and Success Criteria is used by teachers for all lessons. These are shared with all of the children so that they understand what is expected of them in all lessons. Praise, encouragement and rewards are used to help pupils see the importance of working hard and learning well. We have many reward strategies in the classes which encourages respect and being proud of their work. We also have a rewards service every Friday afternoon. This has been going on for many years now and we have seen vast improvement in pupils attitude. We report to parents on their child's development every term in the parents evening. The schools processes of Assessment for Learning and Two Stars and a Wish in particular is paying dividends in terms of raising standards

Additional Learning Needs - There is special provision for the children that are on the additional learning needs register. Miss Rebecca Roberts and Mrs Lynne Hardwidge Jones have been working with these children weekly and theyhave all got an individual education plan which is geared towards their individual needs. The school also provides targeted learning sessions for children with ALN. We also have an ex-secondary school language teacher who provides extra support for pupils in Y56.Many strategies are used to help these children improve i.e IT programmes and language games are used constantly.

We also aim to stretch our More Able and Talented pupils with a wide variety of strategies within the class and also by working with other schools. Planning consultations have taken place with Educational Psychologists and Inclusion Teacher. Referrals have been made for Behavioural Support when needed. Annual reviews of statemented pupils have been conducted.

CommunicationLetter are sent home frequently with information about the school’s events. Our school Twitter feed @PYR2115 is used mostly to communicate on a regular basis with parents. The school website is updated weekly . The school also publishes a termly newsletter for parents.

Friends of the School (PTA)The PTA has been working hard to raise money for the school over the year with many social events. I would like to thank them for their hard work. They are always looking for new members

VolunteersI wish to thank Mrs Hughes, Mrs Herschman,Mrs Beaumont, Mrs Roberts, Mrs Brassington Martinez and Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Kentfor coming in to school on a weekly basis to read with our pupils. This helps us immensely in trying to raise standards at Pant y Rhedyn.

ReligionOur local vicar, the Reverend Janice Brown has started coming into the school on a monthly basis to be a part of our service.In accordance with our RE policy. Parents can request that their children are withdrawn from our religious services.

Charities

The school has continued to support a number of charities both locally and abroad. We continue to support the Itala Foundation in Zambia and we have also taken part in Children in Need, Comic Relief and other national events. The Rotary club also continues to support the school.

PoliceThe school has also been visited regularly by PC Vicky Roscoe. She visits the school on a termly basis in order to deliver lessons based on topics such as drug awareness and Anti Social behaviour.

ParentsI believe that the Open Door policy we have here is working well where parents can come in and discuss their worries straight away. The school will then do their best to nip the problem in the bud. We will also contact home if we, as a school, have any worries or queries about your child. I would also like to thank the parents who have supported us by bringing their children to a variety of events over the year i.e Sports etc

Beth mae’r plant wedi ei ddweud wrthym yr hoffent ei gael yn yr ysgol?Ar ôl cyfarfod y Cyngor Ysgol penderfynwyd eu bod eisiau gwell dewis amser chwarae o bethau i’w gwneud. Felly rydym wedi bod yn buddsoddi arian ar gyfer y gwelliannau hyn. Roedd hyn yn help mawr i gael gwell disgyblaeth a phawb yn cael hwyl.Mae gennym blant Bydis Buarth ar y buarth amser chwarae yn barod i helpu a chwarae hefo plant unig neu sydd wedi brifo. Mae’r cyngor ysgol hefyd yn dewis Ffrind yr Wythnos ar gyfer ein gwasanaeth dydd Gwener.What have the children asked us to do at school?After a meeting with the School Council they decided that they would like to improve playtime. Therefore we have continuously spent on playtime games for them. This has been a great help in improving playtime discipline. We also have playground buddies who are children that have volunteered to help other children during playtime if they’re hurt or lonely. Our School Council also chose a Friend of the Week for our Friday Service.

Sut yr ydym yn sicrhau bod y plant yn cael bywyd iach o fewn oriau’r ysgol?Rydym yn rhan o ysgolion iach Conwy.Mae gennym nifer o weithgareddau corfforol wedi bod ymlaen yn ystod y dydd ac ar ôl ysgol. Miss Ffion Jones ydi ein cydlynydd ysgolion iach. Eleni derbyniodd yr ysgol y drydedd wobr ysgolion iach. Mae bwydlen yr ysgol yn fwydlen iach ac mae nifer fawr o blant yn yr ysgol yn cael cinio ysgol. Mae hefyd cyfle i’r plant gael ffrwyth amser chwarae. Rydym hefyd yn annog plant i yfed dŵr yn ystod y dydd o’r ffynnon ddŵr sydd yn yr ysgol. Caiff holl blant yr ysgol gyfle i fwyta brecwast am ddim. Mae cyfle i bob plentyn yn yr ysgol mynd am wersi nofio yn ystod y flwyddyn. Ar nod yw bod pawb sy’n gadael yr ysgol ym mlwyddyn chwech yn gallu nofio o leiaf un hyd o’r pwll. Mae disgyblion blynyddoedd 5 a 6 yn cael gwersi beicio hefyd.

How do we make sure our pupils are healthy?

We provide an excellent programme of play, physical education, sport and games to keep learners active and fit during lessons and playtime. Miss Ffion Jones is our Healthy School co-ordinator and over the year we were successful in obtaining the Stage Three Award. The pupils have a wide variety of experiences involving the Environment and Food and Fitness in their classes and extra curricular as well. We have encouraged healthy eating options for school meals and snacks and sell fresh fruit at break-times. Water bottles are provided for all children throughout the school and we are involved in providing a free breakfast for all of our pupils. All children from year 3 to Year 6 will have the opportunity to learn to swim during the year and our aim is that all children are able to swim at least a length of the swimming pool before they leave year 6. Cycling proficiency is taught to year 5 and 6 pupils.

Maent hefyd wedi derbyn gwersi Ocarina.Hefyd mae gennym nifer o glybiau ar ôl ysgol megis clwb cyfrifiadur, clwb coginio a chlwb garddio. Mae gennym hefyd clwb Urdd a chlwb Cornet yn rhedeg yn wythnosol.Yn ogystal, mae nifer o blant yr ysgol yn Llysgenhadon Digidol o fewn yr ysgol.Mae’r plant yma gyda’r cyfrifoldeb o ehangu llythrennedd digidol o fewn yr ysgol. Mae cyfle i ddosbarth hynaf yr ysgol defnyddio cyfleusterau Nant BH ac mae plant Bl56 wedi aros yn breswyl yn Glanllyn. Fe fydd teithiau addysgol yn digwydd yn aml (weithiau yn dymhorol) fel symbyliad i’r gwaith. Gydag un daith hwyliog ar ddiwedd y flwyddyn.Byddwn yn cychwyn ar brosiect sgiliau mor tuag at ddiwedd 2014.

Which activities do we have available for our pupils?

In addition to our rich and varied curriculum, the children have the opportunity to have music lessons e.g. Singing, Flute & Clarinet lessons in Key Stage 2, and there will be many extra curricular activities that have been ongoing this year - computer club, cooking club and the gardening club.Pupils also had the opportunity to learn the ocarina.We also have the Urdd and Cornet Club. In addition, we also have our digital ambassadors who are are helping us to develop Digital Literacy throughout the school.There is an opportunity for the older children to spend an overnight stay at Glanllyn and we also have used Nant Bwlch yr Haearn in the past. In 2014,we aim to begin the Water skills course that is offered in the Conwy Centre. All the classes go on educational visits (which we aim to be once a term) in order to enrich their education. There is also one fun trip at the end of the year.

OTHER ACTIVITIES AND VISITS-Smoke Bugs visited the school to educate the children about the dangers of smokling.-Pupils also had a visit and workshop from the Conwy Recycling team.-Menter Iaith have begun an art project within the school. The artist is currently working with all pupils within the school.-5 pupils from the school have filmed as extras in the Welsh series of Rownd a Rownd.-Pupils from the school have been down to the beach to take part in an environmental art activity.-Pupils from the school have taken part in a MAT activity in Ysgol Capelulo.-Pupils have taken part in Urdd Swimming Gala and in Football and Rugby Competitions within the county.-Samba Workshops have been arranged by the Rotary.-Pupils from the school have taken part in a MAT activity in The school. Pupils from other schools came to PYR in order to take part.-Y56 pupils took part in the county rugby tournament in Llandudno/ Eirias Park. Thanks to Miss Roberts for taking and training the pupils.-Pupils from Y56 had a visit from Mrs Brenda Wyn Jones to talk about her book Bullies and Blacklegs. Thanks go to Miss Nia Hywun for arranging the talk . -Hywun Williams visited Y34 to talk about the Snowdonia National Park.-PC Vicky Roscoe has visited the school in order to do a session on Alcohol.-Mrs Julia Jarman and Mrs Brenda Wyn Jones have agreed to become our Patrons of Reading.

Y CORFF LLYWODRAETHOLMae'r Corff Llywodraethol wedi cyfarfod tair gwaith yn ystod y flwyddyn ddiwethaf . Mae’r Cadeirydd a'r Is-gadeirydd wedi bod yn ymweld yn amlach na hyn( fel arfer unwaith y mis ) ac mae llawer o'n llywodraethwyr eraill hefyd wedi ymweld er mwyn cynnal ymweliadau monitro . Mae rhai o'n rhiant-lywodraethwyr hefyd yn gwirfoddoli yn yr ysgol ac felly maent mewn sefyllfa wych i arsylwi ar yr hyn sydd yn digwydd o fewn yr ysgol. Mae Mr Chris Parry (Penneth Bl 8 Friars ac yn Lywodraethwr) yn ymweld bob mis Medi er mwyn addysgu grŵp o ddisgyblion B6 mewn Mathemateg .

Mae gan yr ysgol rywfaint o is - bwyllgorau yn ei le . Mae rhai o'r pwyllgorau hyn yn cyfarfod yn ôl yr angen , ond mae’r panel cyllideb , adeiladau , pwyllgorau ADY ac Amddiffyn Plant yn cyfarfod yn flynyddol . Mae'r ysgol hefyd yn defnyddio cyfarfod mis Tachwedd i drafod perfformiad yr ysgol .Trwy weithio yn y dull yma, mae modd i drafod sawl agwedd pwysig ar sut i redeg ysgol yn effeithiol .

Fel arfer, mae’r Polisïau yn cael eu trafod gyda’r is-banel polisïau ond gall yr ysgol gysylltu â’r Cadeirydd a’r Is-gadeirydd os nad yw hi’n bosib cael pawb at ei gilydd mewn cyfarfod llawn o’r Corff Llywodraethol llawn . Bydd polisiau yn cael eu rhannu gyda’r corff yn gyson ac rydym wedi pasio llawer o bolisïau yn ystod y ddau dymor diwethaf .

THE GOVERNING BODYThe Governing Body has met three times over the last year. The Chair and Vice Chair have been visiting quite often (usually once a month) and many of our other governors have also visited in order to carry out monitoring visits. Some of our parent governors and also volunteers in the school thus they really do have a hands on approach to what we are trying to achieve in school. Mr Chris Parry also visits every September in order to teach a group of our Y6 pupils in Maths.

The school has some sub-committees in place. Some of these committees meet when needed, but the budgetary, buildings, ALN and Child Protection committees meet annually. The school also spends the November meeting to discuss the schools’ performance. Working in such a way allows us to discuss the many aspects of running a school more effectively.

Policies are usually discussed with the policy sub-panel but the school may ask the Chair and Vice Chair to pass policies if it has proved difficult to get a full meeting of the Governing body arranged. All policies that are passed are shared with the full Governing Body. Many policies were passed during the last two terms.

This school year has been exceptionally busy for the Teaching Staff, Governors and children. The Governors would like to thank the staff and the Head for their continued hard work and I sincerely hope that the school will continue to go from strength to strength under Mr Jones’ leadership in the future!   This report lists some of the changes and achievements that have been accomplished over this past year and clearly sets out the targets and objectives identified for change and improvement over the coming school year.
