The road to success with head teacher Isaac

    The roadto success is

    always un-der con-struction.

    This quota-

    tion inspires

    Mr. Isaac

    Salve Ben-trez, head

    teacher ofR e f r e s h e rCourse De-

    artment, Pines International Academy.

Bachelor of Science major in Psychol-gy graduate and currently finishing his

raduate studies in English, Mr. Bentrez

as been working for almost eight years

ow at Pines International AcademyPIA) - the largest English academy in

aguio City, Philippines.eing the head teacher of a department

with faculty members ranging from 70-

20, he is tasked to oversee the smooth

    peration of the department, coordinat-

ng with the assigned Filipino and Ko-

ean campus managers. Since the de-

    artment houses various peoples- Fili-

    ino, Koreans, Japanese, Arabs, Taiwan-

    ese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other

Asians; the head teacher has to carefully

deal with diversity, cultural, personality, and attitudinal issues. When conflictsarise between and amongst teachers and

students, he plays a vital role by mediat-

ing in the dispute. At times, the argu-

ments are the results of language as a

barrier or merely a simple misunder-

standing. With his background in Psy-

chology and exposure to guidance and

counseling, Mr. Bentrez functions as theguidance counselor of the department.

Much like a captain of a ship braving the

tempestuous seas; together with themanager, he calls the shots when to

steer the team to safety and success. He

is responsible for encouraging the crew

not to throw in the towel. He must

walk the extra mile at times to better

understand the plight of teachers in hotseats. He even has to be the bigger man

to preserve unity within the team. Con-sequently, with all these burdens on his

shoulders, Mr. Bentrez has becomebolder and more mature as regards chal-

lenges in the work place. The experi-

ences have given him avenues to better

    his decision-making ability and wisdom.

It has seasoned him to be more tactfu

    and witty.

As to lessons acquired through the opportunities provided; complacency andover familiarity issues top the line. Being

complacent because of significanachievements can knock someone ou

and too much closeness can burn bridge

and close doors. There should always b

hunger for more, desire to explore th

    unknown, and appropriate leadershi

governed by correct relationshipboundaries. The head teacher throug

    the years has gradually incorporated

these lessons into his leadership. Finally, the head teacher aligns himse

with the Academys vision to be a premiere language institution in the world

that is God-centered and inculcates lov

for the family among its employees and

students. In particular, he envisions himself as one of the big brothers who sup

port, guide, and maintain harmony in

an extended family whose success is a

    ways under construction. He strongly

believes the academys present success inot the dead end. The road goes on.

The wow experience with academic manager Joj

    Jojo

    F r a n c i s c o

    started offat CIP al-most 4

    years ago as

    a Native

    Teacher for

    the stu-

    dents. With

    a double

degree inrench and Accounting, he now uses his

    ast experiences in business, corporate

aining and teaching languages to goodse at CIP. He worked his way up to

ecoming the company trainer in early

013, and was recently promoted to the

cademic Manager position in July of

    his year.

It was apparent that the studentsuickly identified Jojo as one who in-

ructs with passion. His method ofeaching forces the students to quickly

think in the English language, and com-

municate faster and better than they

thought possible. Because of this, CIPManagement decided to assign TeacherJojo to the Academic Manager position

in order to teach the ESL teachers, Fili-

pino and Native, the most effective

ways of instructing for the CIP students.

So when asked about his most significant

teaching experience, he proudly says It

was with my first Japanese student from

Okinawa. He was 60 years old at thattime and he spoke in phrases only be-

cause he had a 101 level in most areas. It

was because of him why I started havingepiphanies of how to teach effectively

and later on I was able to create my

    most valuable teaching technique which

    I call ABSTACT CONVERSATION. Ab-

    stract conversation simply means when

people use adjectives while they arespeaking, they must confirm their ideas

by giving concrete ideas. I will neverforget this very kind man, for without

him I wouldn't be able grow into th

kind of teacher that I am now.

As the Academic Manager, Jojois responsible for all academic facets o

the school. Students are the numbe

one priority on his agenda. Due to this

Jojo feels that ESL teachers need to b

trained well. Teachers need to b

equipped with the right material, as we

as, to be taught the best ways to bring

out students communication in the Eng

    lish language. Recently, Jojo introduced

the Wow! Experience at CIP which

creates a learning atmosphere that excites the students and teachers, and give

ESL learners the courage and confidenc

to speak and learn English quickly and

efficiently. Jojo continues to advise eve

ryone he meets that when learning Eng

lish, its not always easy, but its al

ways worth it. Come to CIP, mee

with Jojo Francisco, our Academic Man

ager, and feel the wow!at our school!

Modern society recognizes the value of English as the

ngua Franca (language used for communication by people

who speak different first languages) and for individuals to be-ome successful in todays competitive world they must beuent in English. The growing significance of English poses a

egree of difficulty for students and working people who

ave grown in countries where its education has not, up to

his day, developed an efficient system of English education.

With this difficulty in mind, governments and schools aroundhe world have encouraged learning English abroad. One of

he countrys most recommended to venture out to, with thisurpose, is the Philippines. However, if you are a student or aarent, your thoughts will be filled with intricacies of studying

nd living in a different country. This is where an education

    onsultant plays a key role.Education

    consultants are

    the bridges that

    connect studentsto schools over-

seas. If you arelooking for the

    best English edu-

    cation that suits

    your personal

    and learning

    needs, then it is

    most desirable to

    get advice from a

    consultant first.So for studyabroad concerns,

    Phil-English is the

    top choice of

    Japanese ESL stu-

ents. Phil-English and its consultants uphold the values of in-

egrity, hard work and student-centeredness. Their executive

onsultant- Kajino puts honesty up on a pedestal, stating thatStudents can feel our genuine honesty and it makes them eas-

r to trust us. This trust paved the way for Phil-English to be-ome the fastest growing Education consultancy firm in Ja-

pan. Kajino attributes having satisfied-clients to his well

thought advices and he makes it a point that from the start o

the students inquiry until they graduate from the school theyfeel his utmost care as their adviser. Consultation with Kajinostarts with the determination of the students English profi

ciency because the students level will be the basis of hi

choices of schools suitable for the client. There are numerou

schools in the Philippines which all have their own strength

and specialties and the most important and difficult part ostudying abroad is the selection of the right school. Once the

student, with Kajinos guidance, decides on the school andfinishes the enrollment, he proceeds with providing them numerous information about living in the Philippines. For exam

ple, he informs them of how to go through the airport, per

sonal items and documents to prepare prior to leaving theicountry, school policies and many more, this step of his con

sultation enables students to feel safe and empowered to tak

on a new journey in their lives. To further encourage his cli

ents, he provides tips on how to effectively learn English bynot depending on their teachers alone and must educate

themselves as well. He quotes Charles Ogden- a famous and

wise linguistic scholar A man can live without inconvenienceif he knows at least 850 words. With this he shares with hi

clients Ogdens Basic English word list that will ascertain

good start especially for beginners. Kajino spends many hour

writing several emails and making phone calls with one clien

to ensure that his clients are well prepared in their difficul

trek to mastering the English language.

Education consultants not only assist students to pur

sue high quality English education but they also help shapacademies into better institutions through evaluation of the

partner schools curriculum, methods of instruction, facilitieand services. Many schools have already contributed to th

success of their students and this is with a consultants help

Without consultants there will be no representatives in Japan

to promote the academies in the Philippines, gather student

and provide feedback or information of what are the curren

learning needs of students.English education is a powerful instrument to succes

and Kajino with the other consultants of Phil-English arhighly skilled in guiding institutions and students to triumph.
