• It is possible to measure isotopes in wool to determine country of origin for brands which claim to contain fibre predominantly from one country.
• 我们可以通过测量羊毛的同位素成分来鉴定此产品的原产地;
• Internationally agreed sampling systems provide a foundation for isotope testing.
• 国际通用的取样系统可以为同位素测量提供好的保证;
• Integration of isotope testing into IWTO systems is feasible. • 这种同位素测量方法适用于目前的IWTO系统.

ScopeThe purpose of this method is to describe the procedures to be followed when
sampling and testing wool for stable isotopes. This document shall be used together with specific requirements of ISO/IEC Standard 17025 and of the appropriate National Laboratory Accreditation organisation. These documents prescribe certain overall levels of documentation, training, reporting, and scientific rigour. Accreditation requirements for methods that have been developed in-house should be consulted. The methods used for analysis of IWTO samples must be fully documented and approved by the National Accreditation organisation.
This working group method is a general outline of procedures and is non-prescriptive to allow laboratories the freedom to use ‘state-of-the-art’ technologies when undertaking isotope testing.
• This Specification sets out a method for determining the Country of Origin by way of measurement of δ2HVSMOW, δ15NAIR, δ13CVPDB, δ34SCDT isotopes from commercially scoured, or carbonised wool samples taken from bales according to the relevant IWTO Regulations. Procedures for the preparation of the wool before measurement are described.
• The method is not suitable for determining Country of Origin of individual fibres.
