    Suggested Exercise Steps1. Create a new database.2. Import the Unigraphics part file.3. Remove the small hole in lower left region of model.4. Remove other holes.5. Change the hole pattern inside the counter bore.6. Change the size and radial position of the holes.7. Change the number of holes.8. Change the number of notches and holes back to what they were.9.     Step 1. Create a New Database

    Create a new database.a. File/New.b. Enter test2 for File name.c. Click OK.d. Under New Model

    Preferences select DefaultTolerance.

    e. Select MSC.Nastran forAnalysis Code.

    f. Select Structural forAnalysis Type.

    Step 2. Import Unigraphics File

    Import the Unigraphics part file.a. File/Importb. Set Object to Model.c. Select Unigraphics for Source.d. Find and select gear.prt for File

    Step 3. Remove the Small Hole

    Suppress the small hole in thelower left region of the model.

    a. Geometry : Edit/Feature/Suppress.

    b. Select the hole in thelower left corner(asindicated) for theGeometric Entity List.

    c. Click on Apply.

    Eliminate some of the other holesof the part.

    a. Select both the top andbottom hole in the setadjacent to the left notch (asindicated) using shift pickingfor Geometric Entity List.

    b. Click on Apply.c. There should only be 8

    holes, a single holecorresponding to eachnotch.

    Step 4. Remove Other Holes

    Step 5. Change the Hole Pattern Inside the Counter Bore

    Change the hole pattern inside thecounter bore from 4 to 5 holes.

    a. Geometry : Edit/Feature/Parameters.

    b. Under the Feature List selectCIRCULAR_ARRAY(4).

    c. In the Feature ParameterDefinition form click in the cellcorresponding to Number andDefinition.

    d. Enter 5 for Input ParameterDefinition, and click Enter.

    e. Click on OK.f. Click on Apply.

    Change the size and radialposition of the holes adjacent tothe notches.

    a. Geometry: Edit/Feature/Parameters.

    b. In Feature List selectSIMPLE_HOLE(8).

    c. In the Feature ParameterDefinition form click inthe cell corresponding toDiameter and Definition,input 18 for InputParameter Definition. andclick Enter.

    Change the radial position of the holeslined-up with the notches.

    a. Select INSTANCE[0](8)/SIMPLE_HOLE (8) for FeatureList.

    b. Click in the cell corresponding toPositioning DimensionPerpendicular Distance andDefinition, enter 27 for InputParameter Definition, and click theEnter key.

    c. Click on OK.d. Click on Apply.

    Step 6. Change the Size and Radial Position of the Holes

    Change the number of holes adjacent tothe notches.

    a. Geometry: Edit/Feature/Parameters.

    b. Under Feature List selectCIRCULAR_ARRAY(11).

    c. Click in the cell corresponding toNumber and Definition. Note thatthe cell does not contain anumber, but the word FixPosNr.

    d. Select CIRCULAR_ARRAY(7) forFeature List.

    e. In the cell for Number and Namenotice that the same word appearshere. This means that the numberof notches equals the number ofholes.

    f. Click in the cell corresponding toNumber and Definition, enter 6 forInput Parameter Definition, andclick the Enter key.

    g. Click on OK.h. Click on Apply.

    Step 7. Change the Number of Holes

    Change the number of notches andholes back to 8.

    a. Under Feature List selectCIRCULAR_ARRAY(7).

    b. Click in the cellcorresponding to Numberand Definition.

    c. Enter 8 for Input ParameterDefinition, and click Enter.

    d. Click on OK.e. Click on Apply.f. There might be a warning

    message about not beingable to perform the desiredaction.

    If there is a warning it suggests somethingabout the feature suppression state. Whenattempting to do this in UG an errormessage is issued that states errorupdating feature.

    If there is a problem it is with the holesadjacent to the holes centered on thenotches; top and bottom holes in the figure.Unsuppress all the adjacent holes.

    Unsuppress the adjacent holes socan change back to 8 notches and8 centered holes..

    a. Geometry: Edit/Feature/Unsuppress

    b. Feature List: select allentries except the two withthe number 16 in thename.

    c. Applyd. Geometry: Edit/Feature/

    Parameterse. Feature List: select

    CIRCULAR_ARRAY(7)f. Click in the cell

    corresponding to Numberand Definition.

    g. Input Parameter Definition:enter 8, and click Enter
