    Introduction

The brake diagram manual complements the

compressed air diagrams and containsinformation required to read and understandthem.

The booklet comprises a list of components withinformation on the components in thecompressed air system. The information coversthe designation, description, function andsymbol of each of the components. Anillustration is also provided showing the actualappearance of the component.

Finally, the booklet contains the positionconfiguration. The figure shows an example ofhow the components can be located in a vehiclewith 6x4 A/B ABS (6-channel).

    Key to compressed air diagram

    Key to compressed air diagram

The compressed air diagram consists of a

skeleton diagram with symbols for the variouscomponents. It shows only how the variouscomponents are connected to one another, notwhere the components are located or how thecompressed air lines are routed in the chassis.Pipe connections and joints are not displayed inthe diagram either.

Beside each symbol is a designation, which alsocan be found in the list of components in this

booklet. If several components have the same

    13 35

function, they have the same symbol butdifferent designations.ExampleThe task of a safety valve is always to open if

the pressure in a circuit becomes too high. Forthis reason, the symbol for safety valve in the Safety valve Safety valvediagram is always the same. However, a valvethat opens at 14.3 bar has number 13, while one

14,3 bar 19 barthat opens at 19 bar is designated as 35 (seefigure).

In certain cases, components are differentiatedby placing a letter after the number, dependingon what they are used for.

    Example

7c is the designation for the front circuit air tankand 7d is the designation for the rear circuit airtank (see figure).

Next to each line on the diagram is a marking inthe form of two or three letters, as well asinformation on the diameter of the line. The linemarking indicates which circuit the line belongsto, where it originates and where it runs to. Themarking can also be found on the line in thevehicle.

    Example

The designation MAD16 indicates a linebelonging to the supply circuit running from the

compressor to the cooling coil. This has adiameter of 16 mm. These markings areexplained in more detail in booklet 10:02-08,Marking of compressed air lines andconnections.

MAD 16104 724Optional equipment is drawn in a box withbroken lines on the diagrams.

Components that constitute a single unit aredrawn in a dashed and dotted frame.
