While he is on vacation, Fr. Mike left us the following story to ponder. It was given to him by a parishioner.

The Magic Bank Account

Imagine that you had won the following *PRIZE* in a contest: Each morning your bank would deposit $86,400 in your private account for your use… However, this prize has rules: The set of rules: 1. Everything that you didn't spend during each day would be taken away from you. 2. You may not simply transfer money into some other account. 3. You may only spend it. 4. Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $86,400 for that day. 5. The bank can end the game without warning; at any time, it can say, Game Over!" It can close the

account and you will not receive a new one. What would you personally do? You would buy anything and everything you wanted, right? Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love and care for. Even for people you don't know, because you couldn't possibly spend it all on yourself, right? You would try to spend every penny, and use it all, because you knew it would be replenished in the morning, right? ACTUALLY, this game is REAL… Shocked??? YES! Each of us is already a winner of this *PRIZE*. We just can't seem to see it. The PRIZE is *TIME*. 1. Each morning we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of Life. 2. And when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is not credited to us. 3. What we haven't used up that day is forever lost. 4. Yesterday is forever gone. 5. Each morning the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time WITHOUT

WARNING… So, what will you do with your 86,400 seconds? Those seconds are worth so much more than the same amount in dollars. Think about it and remember to enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than you think. So take care of yourself, be happy, love deeply and enjoy life! RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS FOR FALL 2020

If you would like to volunteer as a catechist or classroom aide for our Parish School of Religion, please contact Karen Bartos. We will be working on reopening in the fall and redesigning our program for the safety and benefit of our children and our staff. We hope to get information mailed to our parents by the end of July. If your children have not been previously enrolled in our Parish School of Religion, please contact Karen at the Parish House (330) 534-1928. All children are required to have at least two years of formation before celebrating a sacrament.

"A sower went out wearing a face mask…" Jesus might have told this parable: "A terrible sickness struck a village. The people were terrified of getting sick and wanted to know what to do. The doctor asked the people to wear face masks to protect one another. We will! they all said. Some did for a while, but they found the masks uncomfortable, and made it difficult to breathe, so they soon stopped wearing them. The rabbi asked the people to share their food with the poor and sick. We will! they all promised. But many became more and more concerned for their own needs and that of their families, so they kept their barns and larders full—and locked. The mayor asked the merchants to close their shops and innkeepers to close their taverns so people would not gather and spread the sickness. We will! they all agreed. They did so for a few days, but their profits dropped, and they could not pay their help, so slowly, one by one, they quietly re-opened." "Soon, the sickness took the lives of many in the poor village. But then there were the good folk who understood that wearing face masks protected others from the sickness, who kept their distance from one another so the sickness would not spread, (even though they missed one another terribly), who readily shared what they had with those who had little. Oh, it was very hard, and there were many days when they wanted to give up. But they persevered. Because of them, many people did not get sick and survived." "Blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear." Jesus would have said. The parable of the sower challenges us to check the "thinness" of the soil in our hearts that results in our faith withering in the noonday heat; the "rockiness" of self-centeredness and avarice that prevents God's "seed" of generosity and peace from taking root in us; the "thorns" of bigotry and self-righteousness that "choke" the possibility of providing for the poor, healing the broken, lifting up the fallen. Our own response to the coronavirus is a good measure of the "richness" of our faith and its potential for the "seed" of God's Word to take root and realize in our lives the harvest of justice and compassion that is the Kingdom of God.

DEACON JOHN'S STEWARDSHIP COLUMN

In Matthew’s Gospel (10:1-7), Jesus summons his twelve disciples to go and gather the lost sheep. In this beautiful gospel Matthew lists all twelve of the first disciples by name. As I read each of their names, I was led to reflect upon all the great challenges they faced spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. The first disciples were truly an example of what the spirituality of stewardship really is. They gave their time, talent and treasure and their lives to the early Church with great joy and zeal. In this time of our Church history we, too, face many challenges like the pandemic, the unrest in our country and our world. These circumstances at times can challenge us emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Now is the time to reflect on those twelve disciples of the early Church and draw encouragement and hopefulness from their example of faith. We are a people that believe all good things come from Him. We can never allow our fears or doubts to be greater than our faith in Him. Over the past several months I have witnessed so many examples of stewardship in our parish, faith put into practice in so many ways. I have never been more proud to be Catholic or never more grateful to serve God’s people at St. Patrick Parish. God bless,
