Top i c s t h i s t e r mLiteracy In Literacy this term we are going to have a very strong focus
on stories. We are beginning the term by looking at traditional
stories and fairytales and mainly at Jack and the Beanstalk
which we will be studying closely. After much work onbeginnings, middles and ends and some exciting puppet shows we
will move onto looking at stories from different cultures and
begin to really focus on the settings and providing readers with
lovely descriptions. This will lead into writing our own story with
a fantasy setting which children will create themselves (in a
shoebox) from items gathered from Wandsworth Common and
The Rookery. We will end the term by exploring poetry once
more and really focusing on shape poems. During all this we will
be of course working on the structure of our sentences and
using different and interesting vocabulary. We are starting the
term by reading The Secret Garden as our class book.
Numeracy
This term we will be continuing our work on vertical addition and
subtraction and progressing onto using 4 digit numbers! We will
be thinking about 3D shapes and giving change from a ten pence
piece. We will be beginning work on cutting different shapes
into halves and quarters by drawing lines accurately and shading
sections. We will also be continuing work on solving word
problems (known as embellished real-life stories) by drawing
the real-life story and also writing it in the form of a mathsstory.
