    GRILLE AND GRILLE OPENING REINFORCEMENT(GOR)

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove 3 screws and gri l le (Fig. 1) from gril le

    opening reinforcement (G OR).

    (2) G r a s p l ow er ed ge of h ea d la m p l en s. P u ll

    m e n t (GO R ). Di s en g a g e l ow e r a d ju st e r p iv ot s f r om

    lens assembly (Fig. 2).

    (4) Locate and disconnect the 3 wire connector be-

    h i n d h e a d l a m p .

    (5) Rotate bulb ring counterclockwise. Remove ring

    and bulb from lens (Fig. 3).

    (6) Open hood.

    (7) Remove side marker lamp upper screw located

    below radiator side closure panel (Fig. 4).

    (8) Remove lower screw located above park/turn

    s i gn a l l a m p .

    (9) Pull out lamp.

    (10) Twist lam p socket clockwise. D isconnect lam p

    socket from lamp.

    (11) Remove upper screws at turn signal lens. Pull

    lens out to access lamp sockets (Fig. 5).

    (12) R em ov e t u r n s ig n a l a n d s id e m a r k er l a m p

    sockets by twisting sockets clockwise.

    (13) Remove lens.

    (14) Repeat procedure for other side of front end.

    (15) Remove license plate bracket if equipped, from

    bumper fa scia/crossmember.

    (16) Remove 6 retainers at front fascia (Fig. 6).

    well (Fig. 7).

    (18) Sl i d e f a s c ia of f r e t a i n er p eg s a t s i d e o f l o w er

    crossmember.

    (19) Remove fascia from lower crossmember (Fig.

    6).

    (20) Remove 8 bolts t ha t at ta ch gri l le opening rein-

    forcement (GOR) to the upper and lower crossmember

    (Fig. 8).

    (21) Remove grille opening r einforcement .

    (22) If necessary, remove air seals located at head-

    lamp wiring inlets (Fig. 9).

    INSTALLATION

    For installation, reverse removal procedure.

    RADIATOR SUPPORT CROSSMEMBERRefer to Group 7, Cooling Systems for service infor-

    mation.

    HOOD

    REMOVAL

    (1) Raise hood.

    (2) Disconnect underhood la mp wire har ness con-

    nector (Fig. 10), if equipped.

    (3) M a r k l oca t i on of t h e h ood h i ng es a n d h i ng e

    shims (Fig. 11) for insta l lation a l ignment.

    (4) R e m ov e n u t s t h a t a t t a ch h i n ge s t o h ood . R e-

    move hood from vehicle with aid of a helper.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) P o si t ion h ood on s h im s a n d h i ng es . F i n ge r-

    tighten hinge nuts (Fig. 12).

    (2) Align hinges and shims (Fig. 11) with instal la-

    tion reference marks. Tighten hinge nuts to 23 Nm

    (17 ft-lbs) torque.

    (3) Test latch release cable a nd lat ches for proper

    operation.

    (4) Connect underhood lamp wire harness connec-

    tor (Fig. 10).

    (5) Inspect hood for proper a l ignment an d a djust as

    necessary.

    HOOD ADJUSTMENTThe hood attaching holes are enlarged to aid front,

    back and side-to-side adjustment.

    (1) I f h ood i s l o w i n r e la t i o n t o c ow l p a n e l, i n s er t

    shims between hinge and hood.

    (2) Adjust hood bumper (Fig. 13) in or out to adjust

    hood-to-fender height alignment.

    (3) Ad ju s t t h e h ood l a t c h (Fi g . 14) a s n e ce ss a r y.

    Ti gh t en t h e n u t s t o 11 Nm (8 f t -l bs) t or q u e a f t e r

    adjustment.

    (4) Align latch striker (Fig. 12) so that striker en-

    t e r s t h e l a t ch s q u a r e ly a n d w i t h ou t bi n di n g .

    HOOD HINGES

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove hood from vehicle.

    (2) R e m ov e h i n g e r e t a i n i n g n u t s f r om s t u d s (Fi g .

    11).

    (3) Remove hinge from inner cowl side panel.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position hinge over studs (Fig. 11).

    (2 ) I n s t a l l h i n g e r e t a i n i n g n u t s o n s t u d s . T i g h t e n

    r e t a i n i n g n u t s t o 2 3 Nm (17 ft-lbs) torque.

    (3) Instal l hood.

    (4) Adjust hood as necessary. If necessary, refer to

    adjustment procedure.

    HOOD LATCH

    REMOVAL

    (1) R em ov e n ut s t h a t a t t a ch la t ch t o r a dia t or

    crossmember support (Fig. 12).

    (2) Di s con n e ct l a t c h f r om t h e h ood r e le a s e ca bl e .

    Remove lat ch.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Connect latch to latch release cable. Position i t

    on radiator crossmember support (Fig. 12).

    (2 ) I n s t a l l n u t s .

    (3) Tighten nuts to 11 Nm (8 ft-lbs) torque.(4) Test operation of latch release cable and latch.

    HOOD LATCH STRIKER

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove 2 striker retaining bolts.

    (2) Remove striker from hood (Fig. 12).

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position striker on hood. Instal l bolts (Fig. 12).

    (2) Tighten bolts to 11 Nm (8 ft-lbs) torque.

    (3) Te st s t r i ke r /h ood a l i g n m en t by op en i n g a n d

    closing hood several t imes. Adjust striker, i f neces-

    s a r y .

    LATCH RELEASE CABLE

    REMOVAL

    (1) Disconnect cable from hood latch (Fig. 14).

    (2) Disconnect cable from retaining clips (Fig. 12).

    (3) Remove left cowl side (kick) trim panel.

    (4) R em ov e ca bl e br a c ke t a t t a c h in g s cr e w s f r om

    cowl side panel (Fig. 15).

    (5) P u ll ca b l e t h r ou g h d a s h p a n el a n d r em ov e i t

    from under instrument panel .

    INSTALLATION

    (1) I n s e r t r e pl a ce m en t ca bl e e n d t h r o ug h h ol e i n

    dash panel (Fig. 15) into engine compartment.

    (2) P u ll ca b l e f or w a r d a n d s ea t g r om m et i n d a s h

    panel (Fig. 15).

    (3) P o s it i on ca bl e br a c ke t on cow l s i de p a n e l a n d

    insta l l screws (Fig. 15). Tighten screws to 11 Nm (8

    ft-lbs) torque.

    (4) Instal l left cowl side trim panel .

    (5) Route cable into retaining cl ips.

    (6) Attach cable to hood latch (Fig. 12).

    (7) Test release cable for proper operation.

    SAFETY LATCH STRIKER

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove latch striker screw from hood (Fig. 12).

    (2) Remove striker from hood (Fig. 12).

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position striker on hood. Install screw (Fig. 12).

    (2) Test safety latch operation.

    COWL GRILLE AND SCREEN

    REMOVAL

    (1) U s e a w a x p en ci l t o m a r k p os it i on of w i pe r

    arms (Fig. 16).

    (2) R em ov e w i n d sh i el d w i pe r a r m s f r om p iv ot s

    (Fig. 16).

    (3) Remove 6 screws that attach gri l le to cowl (Fig.

    17).

    (4) Remove windshield washer tubes from nozzles

    (Fig. 18).

    (5) Remove cowl gri l le a nd screen from cowl (Fig.

    17).

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position cowl gri l le on cowl. Instal l windshield

    washer tubes on nozzles (Fig. 18).

    (2) Insta l l cowl gri l le reta ining screws.

    (3) I n s t a l l w i n d s h ie ld w i p er a r m s on p iv ot s w i t h

    wipers a l igned with wa x pencil (Fig. 16).

    BATTERY TRAY

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove 2 bolts a nd h olddown bra cket from ba t-

    tery tray (Fig. 19).

    (2) Remove bat tery t hermo-guard from ba ttery.

    (3) Remove bat tery from t ray.

    (4) R em ov e 5 s cr ew s t h a t a t t a ch b a t t er y t r a y t o

    inner fender pan el .

    (5) Remove battery tray. Disconnect vacuum reser-

    voir hoses.

    (6) If necessary, remove 2 screws that attach reser-

    voir to bottom of battery tray.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) If r emoved, instal l va cuum reservoir a nd screws

    to bottom of tra y.

    (2) P o si t ion b a t t e ry t r a y on i n ne r f en d er p a n el .

    Connect vacuum lines to reservoir.

    (3 ) A t t a c h ba t t e r y t r a y t o i n n e r f e n d e r p a n e l w i t h

    the 5 screws (Fig. 19). Tighten screws to 10 Nm (7

    ft-lbs) t orque.

    (4) I n s t a l l ba t t e r y i n t r a y.

    (5) Position upper holddown bracket over battery.

    Tight en t he bolts t o 10 Nm (7 ft -lbs) torque.

    FRONT FENDER

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove headlamp, side marker and turn signal

    lamp. Refer to Group 8L, Lamps for service informa-

    tion.

    (2) Remove front bumper fascia. Refer to Group 13,

    Frame and Bumpers for service information.

    (3) Remove front wheel.

    (4) R em ov e 12 f a s t en er s a t t a ch i ng i n ner f r on t

    fender liner to fender and inner fender (Fig. 20).

    (5) Remove inner fender liner.

    (6) Right fender only:

    I f e q u i p p e d , r e m o v e r a d i o a n t e n n a m a s t , n u t , p a d

    and base from fender (Figs. 21 and 22);

    (7) From inside wheel well , remove 2 bolts at rear

    of fender reinforcements (Fig. 23).

    (8) Remove 2 bolts at front fender bracket (Fig. 24).

    (9) R em ov e 2 b ol t s a t l ow e r r ea r of f en d er a t

    A-pillar (Fig. 24).

    (10) Re mov e 5 u pp er m ou n t in g b ol t s a t t op of

    fender (Fig. 24).

    (11) Remove fender from in ner fender.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position fender on inner fender panel (Fig. 24).

    (2) I n s t a l l a l l of f en d er a t t a ch i ng s cr ew s f in g er -

    tight (Figs. 20, 23 and 24).

    (3) Align fender w ith a djacent body pan els. Tighten

    fender bolts t o 9 Nm (80 in-lbs) torque.

    (4) Install inner fender liner (Fig. 20).

    (5) Instal l front wheel.

    (6) Instal l front bumper fascia. If necessary refer to

    G r o up 13, F r a m e a n d B u m p er s f or i n st a l l a t i on i n -

    structions.

    (7) I n s t a l l f r on t h ea d l a m p, s id e m a r k er a n d t u r n

    s i g n a l l a m p . I f n e c e s s a r y r e f e r t o Gr o u p 8 L , L a m p s

    for service information.

    BODY SIDE CLADDING

    REMOVAL/FRONT DOOR

    (1) Using a trim stick, gently l i ft up from bottom of

    c l a d d i n g . U n s n a p m o l d i n g f r o m r e t a i n i n g c l i p s (Fi g .

    (2) Lift upward and remove molding.

    INSTALLATION/FRONT DOOR

    (1) Install molding over top of retaining clips.

    (2) Align molding to door edges.

    (3) Sna p molding down over reta ining cl ips.

    REMOVAL/REAR DOOR

    (1) Open rear door.

    (2) Remove acorn nut at rear dogleg (Fig. 25).

    (3) Using a trim stick, gently l i ft up from bottom of

    cladd ing. U nsna p molding from reta ining cl ips.

    INSTALLATION/REAR DOOR

    (1) Insta l l molding reta iner into hole at dogleg.(2) Install molding over top of retaining clips.

    (3) Sna p molding down over top of retaining clips.

    (4) Instal l acorn nut onto retainer.

    REMOVAL/FENDER-QUARTER PANEL

    (1) Remove 3 screws at wheel opening.

    (2) U s i ng a t r i m s t ick , G e n t l y p r y u pw a r d f r om

    bottom of cladding.

    (3) Unsnap cladding from retainers.

    INSTALLATION/FENDER-QUARTER PANEL

    (1) Install molding over top of retainer clips.

    (2) Sna p molding down over reta ining cl ips.

    (3) Insta l l 3 screws into w heel opening.

    body panels using various cl ips and retainers.

    REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

    (1) Push down on upper molding and carefully pry

    molding off along bottom (Fig.26 and 27).

    (2) P u l l u p on l ow e r m ol d in g a n d ca r e fu ll y p ry

    along top of molding.

    (3 ) A l i g n m o l d i n g w i t h r e t a i n e r s a n d w i t h c l i p s i n

    panel (Fig. 28). Press molding into place on panel.

    WOODGRAIN OVERLAY

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove exterior trim as necessary to clear cap-

    tured edges of overlay being removed

    (2) R e m ov e o v er l a y u s i n g a s u it a bl e h e a t g u n or

    lamp.

    (3) Clean adh esive residue from body finish using a

    suitable adhesive remover.

    INSTALLATION

    INSTALLATION EQUIPMENT

    Bucket fi l led with a mild dish soap solution.

    Lint free applicator cloth or sponge.

    B ody putty applicat or squeegee.

    H e a t g u n or s u n l a m p .

    Razor knife.

    The painted surface of body panel to be covered by

    an overlay must be smooth and completely cured. If

    painted surface is not smooth, wet sand with 600 grit

    wet/dry sand paper unt i l surface is smooth.

    Ripples and feather edges wil l read through overlay

    if surface is not properly prepared.

    (1) Wi t h ba c ki n g s t i ll i n p la c e, p os i t ion ov er l a yacross panel . Apply masking at top of overlay to hold

    it in position.

    (2) M a r k ou t s id e e dg e of p a n el on ov er l a y w i t h

    grease pencil.

    (3) Tr i m ov er l a y t o w i t h i n 17 m m (0.750 i n .) of

    outl ine ma rks.

    (4) Sp r ea d ov er l a y a c r os s a s m oot h f l a t w o r k s u r -

    face, overlay side down.

    (5) Peel paper backing away from overlay exposing

    adhesive backing of overlay.

    (6) Apply soap solution l iberally to adhesive back-

    ing of overla y.

    (7) Apply soap solution to body panel surface.(8) P l a c e ov er l a y i n t o p os it i on on b od y p a n el .

    overlay unti l i t lays flat on panel surface.

    (9) Push air pockets from under overlay to perim-

    eter of panel from center of overlay out.

    (10) Remove air bubbles from under overlay using

    a body putt y sq ueegee.

    CAUTION: Do nut cut into painted surface of body

    when trimming overlay to size.

    (11) Trim overlay to size using a ra zor knife. Leave

    at least 13 mm (0.5 in.) for edges of doors and open-ings.

    CAUTION: Do not overheat overlay when performingstep 12.

    (12) Ap pl y h e a t t o ov er l a y t o e va p or a t e r e si d u a l

    moisture from edges of overlay. This wil l also al low

    overlay to be stretched into concave surfaces.

    (13) Edge t urn overlay around doors or fenders.

    (14) Instal l exterior trim i f necessary. Small air or

    w a t e r bu bbl es u n d er ov er l a y ca n be p i er ce d w i t h a

    pin an d smoothed out.

    BODY STRIPES/DECALS

    GENERAL INFORMATION

    B o d y s t r ip es a r e d u r a b le , w e a t h er -r es is t a n t t a p e

    stripes with pressure-sensitive backing (Fig. 26). The

    tape stripe is protected by a carrier unti l instal led on

    a b od y p a n el . C a r r ie r a l so i s a n i n st a l l a t i on a l i gn -

    m e n t a i d .

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove exterior trim as necessary to clear cap-

    tured edges of tape stripe being removed

    (2) Remove tape stripe using a suitable heat gun or

    lamp.

    This will soften adhesive backing.

    (3) Clean adh esive residue from body finish using a

    suitable adhesive remover.

    INSTALLATION

    (3) Trim str ipe to wit hin 17 mm (0.750 in.) of out-

    l ine marks.

    (4) Spread stripe across a smooth flat work surface,

    stripe side down.

    (5) P e e l p a p e r ba c ki n g a w a y f r om s t r i pe e xp os i n g

    adhesive backing of stripe.

    (6) Apply soap solution l iberally to adhesive back-ing of stripe.

    (7) Apply soap solution to body panel surface.

    (8) P l a c e s t r i p e i n t o p os i t ion on bod y p a n e l (Fi g .

    29). Smooth out wrinkles by pull ing l ightly on edges

    of tape stripe unti l i t lays flat on panel surface.

    (9 ) P u s h a i r p o c k e t s f r o m u n d e r t a p e s t r i p e t o p e -

    rimeter of panel from center of the t ape stripe out.

    (10) R em ov e a i r bu bbl es f r om u n d er t a p e s t r i pe

    using a body putty squeegee.

    CAUTION: Do nut cut into painted surface of bodywhen trimming tape stripe to size.

    (11) Tr i m t a p e s t r i pe t o s i ze u s in g a r a z o r k n i fe .

    Leave at least 13 mm (0.5 in.) for edges of doors and

    openings.

    CAUTION: Do not overheat tape stripe when per-forming step 12.

    (12) Apply hea t to ta pe stripe to evaporate residual

    m oi st u r e f r om e dg es of t a p e s t r ip e. Th i s w i ll a l s o

    a l l ow t a p e s t r i p e t o be s t r e t c h ed i n t o c on ca v e s u r -

    faces.

    (13) Edge t urn ta pe stripe around doors or fenders.

    (14) Instal l exterior trim i f necessary. Small air or

    water bubbles under tape stripe can be pierced with a

    pin an d smoothed out.

    QUARTER WINDOW APPLIQUE/AIR EXHAUSTER

    REMOVAL

    (1) Carefully pry applique from panel (Fig. 30).

    (2) Carefully pry air exhauster from upper quarter

    panel using a flat blade screwdriver.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Reseal air exhauster using foam tape.

    (2) Instal l air exhauster on panel .

    (3) P o si t ion a p pl iq u e on pa n el w i t h r et a i ner s

    aligned (Fig. 30). Press applique firmly in place.

    REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

    EXTERNAL MIRRORS

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove door trim panel.

    (2) R em ov e m i rr or i n si de t r i m cov er a t t a ch i ng

    screw.

    (3) For power mirrors, remove inside trim cover.

    (4) For r emote cont rol mirrors, loosen t oggle control

    setscrew.

    (5) For remote control mirrors, remove inside trim

    cover.

    (6) Remove mirror retaining nuts.

    (7) R em ov e m ir r or f r om d oor. R ef er t o G r o up

    8E l e ct r i ca l f or a d d i t i on a l i n f or m a t i o n i n vol v in g

    power mirrors.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position mirror on door. Verify that the O-ring

    seal a nd ga sket ar e properly positioned.

    (2) Instal l mirror retaining nuts.

    (3) For remote mirrors, position inside t rim cover

    over toggle control. Tighten setscrew.

    (4) Install inside trim cover.

    (5) I n s t a l l i n s id e t r i m cov er a t t a c h i n g s c r ew a n dtighten it securely.

    (6) Instal l door trim panel .

    LUGGAGE RACK

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove slide ra il screws (Fig. 33).

    (2) Remove luggage rack from vehicle roof.The skid strips are attached to roof panel with

    adhesive.

    (3) Loosen each skid strip (Fig. 33) with a heat gun.

    (4) L i f t on e e dg e o f e a c h s ki d s t r ip w i t h a p ut t y

    k n i fe a n d p ee l i t f r om r oof p a n e l. A pp ly a d d i t i on a l

    heat to any location where a skid strip remains.

    (5) Remove original adhesive from roof panel with

    an all-purpose adhesive removal solution.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) I n s t a l l 3M 06379 d ou ble -s i d ed t a p e on s k id

    strips.(2) Align each skid strip on roof panel.

    (3) Verify that each skid strip is properly aligned.

    (4) P r e s s e a ch s ki d s t r ip on t o r oof p a n el w i t h a

    roller.

    Apply 3M Drip-Chek Sealant (or an equivalent

    product) to underside of side rail screw heads.

    (5) Position luggage rack on roof (Fig. 33).

    ( 6 ) I n s t a l l a n d t i g h t e n s l i d e r a i l s c r e w s t o 3 Nm

    (28 in-lbs) torque.

    GENERAL INFORMATIONAll sunroofs are equipped with drain tubes that are

    located in the A, B or D-pillars. The dra in t ubes must

    be kept open to prevent water from entering passen-

    ger compart ment.

    LUBRICATION

    (1) L u br ica t e ca bl e s w i t h L u br ip la t e or e q u iv a l en twhen cables a re replaced.

    (2) Periodically clean dirt from guide rail covers.

    DRAIN TUBES

    Inspect drain holes, located in trough around sun-

    r oof op en i ng t o v er i fy t h ey a r e cl ea r . I n s pect i on

    s h ou l d be p e r for m e d o n ce a y e a r or w h e n p r obl em s

    are suspected. If drain hose or tubes are plugged, use

    compressed a ir or blunt flexible wire to clear them. I f

    tubes cannot be cleared, they must be repaired.

    T h e l o w e r e n d s o f r e a r d r a i n t u be s a r e l o c a t e d i n

    r ea r q u a r t e r p a n el d r op w e ll s. To cl ea r r ea r d r a i n

    tubes, use compressed air or blunt flexible wire fromlower ends of tubes.

    GLASS VERTICAL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

    GLASS VERTICAL ADJUSTMENT

    (1) Open glass to vent position.

    (2) Slide upper half of mechanism covers rearward

    until clips disengage and separate covers from vehicle

    (Fig. 1).

    (3) C l os e g l a s s p a n e l, s ep a r a t e l y l oos en a d ju st i n g

    bolts and individually adjust the corners of the glass.

    (4) Adjust front of glass panel to 1.0 mm (0.040 in.)

    below top surface of roof panel.(5) Adjust rear of glass to 1.0 mm (0.040 in.) above

    top surface of roof panel.

    (6) Secure adjustment bolts a nd instal l cover.

    WIND DEFLECTOR

    REMOVAL

    (1) Open sun roof glass panel.

    (2) R e m ov e s cr e w s h ol d in g w i n d d e fl ect o r t o s u n

    roof unit side rail (Fig. 2).

    (3) Separate wind deflector from vehicle.

    INSTALLATION

    Reverse preceding operat ion.

    WIND DEFLECTOR ADJUSTMENT

    (1) Open sunroof.

    (2) P osition w ind deflector so 19 mm (0.75in.) above

    top surface of roof panel and 1 mm (0.040 in.) rear-

    wa rd of roof panel forwar d edge (Fig. 2).

    (3) Secure wind deflector to sunroof unit.

    GLASS PANELREMOVAL

    (1) Remove wind deflector mechanism covers (Fig.

    1)

    (2) Position glass to vent position.

    (3) Position sunshade full rearward.

    (4) Loosen nuts holding glass panel to side adjust-

    ment brackets.

    (5) Sl i d e g l a s s p a n e l r e a r w a r d 12m m (0.5i n .) a n d

    separate glass from sunroof unit .

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position glass panel in opening with logo rear-wa rd and sl ide pan el forwa rd 12 mm (0.5in.).

    (2) Verify that attaching nuts are below top surface

    of glass adjustment brackets.

    (3) Close sunroof to center glass panel in roof open-

    ing.

    (4) Tighten cent er screws to hold ad justment.

    (5) O pe n g l a s s t o v en t p os i t ion a n d t i g h t e n n u t s t o

    8 Nm (70.8 in. lbs.).

    (6) Close glass and check al ignment.

    (7) Install mechanism covers.

    (8) Adjust win d d eflector, if necessary.

    ADJUSTMENT BRACKET

    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

    (1) Remove wind deflector, mechan ism covers a nd

    glass panel .

    (2) Move glass carria ge to vent position a nd remove

    rearward adjustment bolt from adjustment bracket.

    (3) Lift rear of adjustment bracket to highest verti-

    cal position and disengage front of bracket from unit

    (Fig. 3).

    (4) For installation reverse the preceding operation.

    Adjust glass,and wind deflector a s necessary.

    DRAIN CHANNEL

    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

    (1) Remove wind deflector mechan ism covers and

    glass panel .

    (2) Locate glass carriage to vent position and drain

    channel in full forwa rd position.

    (3) R e m ov e s cr e w s h ol d in g d r a i n ch a n n e l t o s u p-

    port frame.

    (4) For installation reverse preceding operation.

    DRI VE CABLE LOCATORS

    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

    (1) Position glass 19 mm (0.75 in.) unti l rearward

    cable locator is visible.

    (3) Remove tra vel l imiting micro switch grommet

    and disconnect wire connector.

    (4) Disconnect wir e connector.

    (3) Lift cable out of cable reta iner and pull forward.

    INSTALLATION

    Verify sunroof is in vent position. Push mechanism

    f o r w a r d o n bo t h s i d e s t o a l i g n d r i v e c a bl e s . R e v e r s e

    the preceding operation.

    SUNSHADE

    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

    (1) Remove wind deflector, mechan ism covers a nd

    glass panel .

    (2) P osition system to full rearw ar d position.

    (3 ) Sl i d e s u n s h a d e p a n e l f u l l f o r w a r d a n d r e l e a s e

    the front tabs from track assembly.

    (4) P u ll r ea r r et a i n i ng cl ip i n boa r d a n d l if t s u n-

    shade out Fig. 7.

    (5) For installation reverse preceding operation.

    GUIDE ASSEMBLY

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove wind deflector, mechanism covers, glass

    (2) Move glass carriage to vent position.

    (3) Remove front slide from guide assembly.

    (4) Remove screws holding front an d center guide

    t r a ck t o u n i t .

    (5) Pull cable out of groove for cable end.

    (6) P u l l g u id e ou t w a r d t o r el ea s e f r om h ou s in g .

    Separate rear end of guide from clips. Sl ide guide out

    of unit F ig. 8.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Insta l l guide cable into rea r of guide a ssembly.

    (2) I n s t a l l g u id e a s se mb ly a t a n a n g l e s o t h e r e a r

    (3) Place cable in groove of cable holder.

    FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove inside release handle assembly screws

    (Fig. 1).

    (2) Disconnect ha ndle lat ch a nd lock rods.

    (3) Remove window crank handle (Fig. 2).

    (4) Remove screw at armrest (Fig. 2).

    (5) Remove screw at window demister slot (Fig. 2).

    (6) Remove screw a t th e upper mirror bezel (Fig. 2).

    (7) D et a c h t r i m p a n el p er i me t er r et a i n er s f r om

    door inner pan el with an appropriate pry tool (Fig. 2).

    (8) If equipped, disconnect the wiring connectors

    from power switch pa nel .

    (9) Remove trim panel from door (Fig. 2).

    (10) If necessary, remove waterdams from door.

    (11) If necessary, remove power switches from door

    panel (Figs. 3 and 4).

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Apply adh esive/sealant to edges of door wa ter-

    d a m .

    (2) Position waterdam on door inner panel . Press i t

    i n w a r d t o a t t a c h i t t o i n n er p a n e l .

    (3) If removed, instal l power door switches (Figs. 3

    and 4).

    (4) P o s it i on t r i m p a n e l o n d oor i n n er p a n e l. Fo r

    vehicles equipped with power door locks/windows,

    connect wire harness connectors. Press nylon retain-

    ers inward to attach i t to inner panel (Fig. 2).

    (5) I n s t a l l a r m r es t s cr ew . I n s t a l l d em i st e r s lots cr e w. I n s t a l l m i r r or bez el s cr e w (Fi g . 2). Ti g h t en

    screws t o 4 Nm (34 in-lbs) torque.

    (6) Insta l l window crank ha ndle (Fig. 2).

    (7) Connect rods to inside handle assembly. Instal l

    h a n d l e a s s e m bl y (Fi g . 2 ). Ti g h t en s cr e w s t o 2 Nm

    (16 in-lbs) torque.

    DOOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION(1) For vehicles equipped with power windows and

    locks, remove door trim panel. Disconnect power win-

    d ow r e gu l a t o r, p ow e r d oor l ock m ot o r a n d a l l ot h e r

    w i r e h a r n e s s con n e ct o r s. Sl i d e w i r e h a r n e ss ou t of

    boot and door.

    (2) Mark a n outl ine around door hinges for insta l la-

    tion alignment reference.(3) R em ov e d oor h i ng e cov er s , r et a i n i ng b ol t s,

    plates and shims (Fig. 5). Remove door from vehicle.

    (4) Identify and retain door hinge plates and shims

    for correct installation (Fig. 5).

    (5) I f a r e pl a c em e n t f r on t d oor i s bei n g i n s t a l l ed ,

    coat door interior with anti-corrosion wax. Also, seal

    d oor h e m f l a n g e w i t h s ea l a n t .

    (6) B e for e i n s t a l l in g a r e pl a c em e n t d oor, t r a n s f e r

    or i g in a l h a r d w a r e . I f n e ce ss a r y, r e fe r t o a p p li ca bl e

    procedures.

    (7) Position door in body opening.

    (8) Al ig n d oor h i n g es , p la t e s a n d s h i m s w i t h bol t

    h ol es . I n s t a l l (bu t d o n o t t i g h t en ) h i n g e bol t s ,i n s t a l l

    hinge covers (Fig. 5).

    (9) Adjust door to reference mar ks. If necessary,

    refer to a djustment procedure. Tighten hinge bolts to

    35 Nm (26 ft-lbs) torque.

    (10) Adjust latch striker as necessary.

    (11) If applicable, route a nd connect ha rness con-

    nectors to door and vehicle body wire harness connec-

    tors.

    (12) Install door waterdam (if removed), trim panel,

    a r m r e s t a n d w i n d ow g l a s s r e g u la t o r h a n d l e . I f n e ce s-

    sary, refer to t rim pa nel insta l lation procedure.

    FRONT DOOR WINDOW

    REMOVAL

    seals.

    (3) Remove window track retaining nuts (Fig. 6). If

    necessary, refer to removal procedure.

    (4) Lift window glass upward and out of door.

    For installation, reverse removal procedure.

    REAR DOOR WINDOW REGULATOR

    REMOVAL

    (1 ) R e m o v e d o o r t r i m p a n e l a n d w a t e r d a m . I f n e c -

    essary, refer to removal procedure.

    (2) P os i t ion w i n d ow g l a s s t o a c ce ss w i n d ow t r a c k

    nuts (Fig. 8).

    (3) Loosen 2 window track nuts and sl ide track off

    of window (Fig. 8).

    (Fig. 9).

    (5) Remove 2 door track screws (Fig. 9)

    REAR DOOR WINDOW

    REMOVAL

    (1) Lower window glass.

    (2) P r y w i n d ow bel t l in e m ol d in g f r om f l a n g e. R e -

    move molding from door.

    (3) Remove window weatherstrip seals from door.

    (4) R em ov e t r i m p a n el a n d w a t e rd a m f r om d oorinner panel. If necessary, refer to removal procedure.

    (5) Remove window t ra ck nuts an d sl ide tra ck off of

    window (Fig. 8).

    (6) Remove division bar upper attaching screw and

    belt line screw (Fig. 10).

    (7) Tilt sta tionary glass chan nel assembly forwa rd

    and remove it from door.

    (8) Remove window glass from door.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Instal l window glass in door.

    (2) Ti g h t en g l a s s t r a c k n u t s t o 6 Nm (53 in-lbs)

    torque.

    (3) Instal l stationary glass channel in door.

    (4) I n s t a l l s t a t i on a r y g la s s ch a n n el s cr ew s (F i g.

    10). Tighten screw to 6 Nm (5 ft -lbs) torque.

    (5 ) I n s t a l l w i n d o w g l a s s c h a n n e l a n d be l t w e a t h e r -

    strip seals.

    (6) Insta l l window beltl ine molding.

    (7) I n s t a l l d o or w a t e r d a m a n d t r i m p a n e l . I f n e ce s-

    sary, refer to installation procedure.

    DOOR KEY LOCK CYLINDER

    REMOVAL

    (1 ) R e m o v e d o o r t r i m p a n e l a n d w a t e r d a m . I f n e c -

    essary. refer to removal procedure.

    (2) D isconnect door latch lock cylinder rod a t door

    latch (Fig. 11).

    (3) I f e q u ip pe d , d i scon n e ct s ecu r i t y a l a r m s w i t ch

    connector from lock cylinder (Fig. 12).

    (4) Remove key lock cylinder retainer clip. Remove

    lock cylinder, gasket and clip from door (Fig. 13).

    (5) If applicable, remove door lat ch lock cylinder

    rod from original lock cylinder. Connect it to replace-

    ment lock cylinder (Fig. 13).

    For installation, reverse removal procedure.

    DOOR LATCH ADJUSTMENT(1) Locate access hole (Fig. 14).

    (2) I nser t a 5/32-inch hex-w rench t hr ough hole a nd

    into adjustment screw (Fig. 14). Loosen screw.

    (3) Operate outside handle button several t imes to

    release any restriction because of mis-alignment.

    (4) Tighten adjustment screw to 3 Nm (30 in-lbs)

    torque.

    (5) Test h a ndle but ton a nd lock cylinder for proper

    operation.

    OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE

    REMOVAL

    (1 ) R e m o v e d o o r t r i m p a n e l a n d w a t e r d a m . I f n e c -

    essary, refer to installation procedure.

    (2) Remove a ccess h ole cover (Fig. 15). Rem ove door

    ha ndle reta ining nut s (Fig. 16).

    (3) Disconnect handle latch rod from latch (Fig. 16).

    (4) Remove gaskets from door, if necessary.

    For installation, reverse removal procedure.

    DOOR LATCH

    REMOVAL

    (1 ) R e m o v e d o o r t r i m p a n e l a n d w a t e r d a m . I f n e c -

    essary, refer to removal procedure.

    (2) Remove door latch retaining screws (Fig. 17).

    (3) Disconnect all rods from door latch (Fig. 18).

    (4) Remove door lat ch from d oor.For installation, reverse removal procedure.

    DOOR INSIDE LATCH RELEASE AND LOCK RODS

    REMOVAL

    (1 ) R e m o v e d o o r t r i m p a n e l a n d w a t e r d a m . I f n e c -

    essary, refer to removal procedure.

    (2) Remove door inside lat ch release ha ndle screws

    (Figs. 19 and 20).

    (3) Move door release handle outward. Disconnect

    handle latch and lock rods.

    (4) Remove door inside release handle from door.

    For installation, reverse removal procedure.

    DOOR WINDOW EXTERIOR M OLDINGS

    REMOVAL

    (1) Lower window glass completely.

    (2) Car efully pull molding from door panel flange

    a nd/or r eta ining clips.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) When instal l ing window moldings, start at for-

    ward end of molding.

    (2) Force molding onto door flange. Continue rear-

    w a r d u n t i l i t i s s ea t e d o n f l a n g e .

    (3) M a t e r e a r m ol d in g w i t h u p pe r m ol d in g . Fo r ce

    molding edge inward.

    (4) Continue pressing downw ar d t o complete instal-

    lation.

    DOOR WINDOW GLASS AND DOOR OPENINGSEALS

    The window glass seals can be removed by hand.

    (1) To instal l a front door w indow cha nnel wea ther-

    strip seal , start at upper, rear corner.

    weatherstrip seal , start at upper, front corner.

    (3) I n s t a l l s ea l ev en l y u n t il i t i s f ul ly s ea t e d i nchannel.

    (4) Position belt weatherstrip seals at window edge.

    Force them downward unti l seated on flange.

    TRIM PANEL

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove the CHMS L a ccess panel . Remove the 6

    screws that attach l i ftgate panel to l i ftgate (Fig. 21).

    (2) U s e a t r i m p a n e l r e m ov a l t o ol t o d e t a c h p a n e l

    retainers from liftgate (Fig. 22).

    (3) Remove trim panel from li ftgat e.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position trim panel on l i ftgate.

    (2) Align trim panel retainers with holes in l i ftgate

    inner panel . Force trim panel inward to seat retainers

    in holes (Fig. 22).

    (3) I n s t a l l s cr ew s t o a t t a ch p a n el t o l if t g a t e (F i g.

    21). Tighten screws securely.

    LIFTGATE

    REMOVAL

    WARNING: DO NOT DISCONNECT THE SUPPORTROD CYLINDERS WITH THE LIFTGATE CLOSED.

    THE SUPPORT ROD PISTONS ARE OPERATED BY

    HIGH PRESSURE GAS. THIS PRESSURE COULD

    CAUSE DAMAGE AND/OR PERSONAL INJURY IF

    THEY ARE REMOVED WHILE THE PISTONS ARE

    COMPRESSED.

    (1) Open l i ftga te. Support l i ftgate for ea se of repair.

    (2) Remove l i ftgate trim panel (Fig. 21). If neces-

    sary, refer to removal procedure.

    (3) Remove reta iner cl ips tha t secure support rod

    cylinders to ball studs (Fig. 23).(4) Remove support rod cylinders from ball studs

    (Fig. 23).

    (5) R em ov e u p pe r s u pp or t r od r e t a i n i n g s cr e w s

    (Fig. 23). Remove support rods.

    (6) D i scon n ect w i r e h a r n e ss es a n d w a s h e r h os e

    from li ftgate.

    (7) Remove hinge screws at liftgate (Fig. 24).

    (8) Remove liftgate from vehicle.

    For inst a llat ion, reverse removal procedure. Torque

    hinge screws t o 9 Nm (7 ft -lbs) torque.

    HINGE

    REMOVAL

    It is not necessary to remove l i ftgate to replace one

    o r bo t h h i n g e s . T h e h i n g e s c a n be r e p l a c e d o n e a t a

    time.

    (1) Remove l i ftga te (headliner) upper trim molding

    (Fig. 25). Disconnect wiring harness to cargo lamp.

    (2) Remove hinge screws at roof panel (Fig. 24).

    (3) Remove hinge screws at l i ftga te (Fig. 24). Re-

    move hinge from liftgate (Fig. 24).

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position gaskets, shim and hinge on l i ftgate and

    roof panel (Fig. 24).(2) I n s t a l l a n d t i g h t e n h i n g e s cr e w s a t r oof p a n e l

    (Fig. 24) to 9 Nm (7 ft -lbs) torque.

    (3) I n st a l l h in ge s cr ew s a t l if t ga t e (F i g. 24).

    Tighten screws to 9 Nm (7 ft -lbs) torque.

    (4) Insta l l l i ftgat e (headliner) upper trim molding

    (Fig. 25).

    LIFTGATE LATCH/LOCK COMPONENTS

    REMOVAL

    LIFTGATE ADJUSTMENT

    The position of l i ftgate can be adjusted upward or

    d o w n w a r d , a n d i n w a r d o r o u t w a r d b y u s e o f h i n g e

    shims. Liftgate stop bumpers must also be adjusted i f

    l i ftgate hinges a re a djusted. The inw ar d/outwa rd po-s it i on of ea ch s t op b um per i s a d ju st ed b y t h e of

    shims.

    LIFTGATE OPENING WEATHERSTRIP SEAL

    REMOVAL

    (1 ) P u l l s e a l a w a y f r o m f l a n g e a r o u n d e d g e o f l i f t -

    gate opening. Remove it from vehicle.

    (2) Clean seal flange a s necessary.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position weatherstrip seal in opening with left

    e nd of s ea l a t op en i ng ce nt e rl in e. I n s t a l l s e a l i n aclockwise direction.

    (2 ) Se a t i n s t a l l e d p a r t o f s e a l . M o v e f r o m l e f t bo t -

    tom end of seal to top left half of the seal .

    LICENSE PLATE LAMP HOUSING

    REMOVAL

    (2) Disconnect bulb socket from lamp housing (Fig.

    28).

    (3) Remove housing from liftgate (Fig. 28).

    INSTALLATION(1) P osition lamp housing at l i ftgate (Fig. 28).

    (2) Connect bulb socket to lamp housing (Fig. 28).

    (3) Instal l lamp housing retaining screws in l i ftgate

    (Fig. 28). Tighten screws securely.

    used to secure windshield to fence is difficult to cut or

    vaged. B efore removing windshield, check a vailabil i ty

    of windshield a nd moldings from t he par ts supplier.

    WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENTThe procedure for windshield replacement can also

    be used to service rear quarter glass and l i ftgate glass

    (Figs. 1 and 2).

    WINDSHIELD REMOVAL

    (1) Remove inside rear view mirror.

    (2) Remove cowl cover.

    (3) Remove windshield moldings (Fig. 3). Pull out-

    w a r d on m ol di n g a t t h e b ot t om of A-p il la r s u s in g

    pliers.

    (4) C u t u r et h a n e bon d i n g f r o m a r o u n d w i n d s h i el d

    using a suitable sha rp cold knife. A pneumatic cutting

    device can be used if available (Fig. 4).

    (5) Separa te w indshield from vehicle.

    WINDSHIELD INSTALLATION

    CAUTION: Open a window before installing wind-

    shield. This will avoid pressurizing the passengercompartment. If a door or trunk lid is slammed be-

    fore urethane is cured, water leaks can result.

    A l l o w t h e u r e t h a n e a t l e a s t 4 h o u r s t o c u r e be f o r e

    returning the vehicle to use.

    The windshield fence should be cleaned of old ure-

    t h a n e bon d i n g m a t e r ia l . Su p por t s pa c er s s h ou l d be

    cleaned a nd properly insta l led on w eld studs or repair

    screws at bottom of w indshield opening.

    (2) Position the windshield inside up on a suitable

    work surface with two padded, wood 10 cm by 10 cm

    b y 50 cm (4 i n . b y 4 i n . b y 20 i n .) b l ock s, p la c ed

    parallel 75 cm (2.5 ft.) apart (Fig. 6).

    (3 ) C l e a n i n s i d e o f w i n d s h i e l d w i t h M o p a r G l a s s

    Cleaner an d l int-free cloth.

    (4) A pp ly cl ea r g l a s s p r im e r 25 m m (1 i n .) w i d e

    around edge of w indshield. Wipe w ith clean/dry l int-

    free cloth .

    (5) Apply black-out primer 15 mm (.75 in.) wide on

    t op a n d s id es of w i n d sh i el d a n d 25 m m (1 i n . ) on

    bot t o m of w i n d s h ie ld . Al l ow a t l ea s t t h r e e m i n u t e s

    drying t ime.

    (6) P os it i on w i n d sh i el d s pa c er s on l ow e r f en cea bo v e s u p p o r t s p a c e r s a t t h e e d g e o f t h e w i n d s h i e l d

    opening (Fig. 7).

    (7) Appl y a 10 m m (0. 4 i n. ) b ea d of u r et h a n e

    a r o u n d p er i m et e r of w i n d s h i el d a l o n g t h e i n s id e of

    the moldings.

    (8) With aid of a helper, position windshield over

    windshield opening. Align reference m arks at bottom

    of windshield to support spacers.

    (9) S l ow l y l ow e r w i n d sh i el d g la s s t o w i n d sh i el d

    opening fence. Guide top molding into proper position

    if necessary. Push windshield inward to fence spacers

    a t bo t t o m a n d u n t i l t o p m o l d i n g i s f l u s h t o r o o f l i n e

    (Fig. 8).

    (10) Clean excess urethane from exterior with Mo-

    pa r, Super Clean or equivalent.

    (11) In sta l l windshield molding. Apply 150 m m (6

    in.) lengths of 50 mm (2 in.) masking tape spaced 250

    m m (10 i n .) a p a r t t o h ol d m ol di n g i n p la c e u n t i l

    urethan e cures.

    (12) Install cowl cover and wipers.

    (13) Insta l l inside rear view mirror.

    (14) After urethane has cured, remove tape strips.

    Wa ter t est w indshield to verify repair.

    FIXED GLASS WATER LEAK DETECTION AND RE-PAIR

    SERVICE INFORMATION

    The sources of wa ter leaks ar ound edge of t he w ind-

    shield or a fixed glass can be sealed without removing

    g l a s s . I f g l a s s i s f i r m l y bo n d e d a n d o n l y h a s a s m a l l

    the top of glass.

    SEALING LEAK AREAS

    (1) Thoroughly clean and remove al l foreign mate-

    rial from leak area. Dry area with compressed air .(2) Se a l l e a k a r e a w i t h bu t y l s e a l a n t . Al low s ea l a n t

    to cure for a t least 1/2 hour. Next, w at er test glass t o

    e n su r e t h a t l ea k a r e a i s s ea l e d .

    TRANSFER CASE SKID PLATE

    REMOVAL

    (1) Support skid plate.

    (2) Remove bolts that attach skid plate to transmis-sion support crossmember and frame sill (Fig. 1).

    (3) R em ov e s u pp or t a n d s k id p la t e f r om v eh i cl e

    (Fig. 1).

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position and support skid plate at the frame si l l

    and transmission support crossmember (Fig. 1).(2) Atta ch skid plate t o frame si l l a nd crossmember

    with the bolts (Fig. 1). Tighten bolts to 22 Nm (16 ft.

    lbs) torque.

    TRAILER HITCH

    REMOVAL

    (1) I f n e ce ss a r y, r e m ov e t r a i l e r t o w w i r e h a r n e s s

    connector from hitch.

    (2) Support hitch.

    (3) R em ov e n u t s t h a t a t t a c h t h e t ow i n g t u be t o

    frame sills (Fig. 2).

    Reinforcement brackets are retained on framesills with 4 studs.

    (4) R e m ov e bol t s f r om p la t e br a c ke t a n d v eh i cl e

    rear crossmember (Fig. 2). Lower support and hitch.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Pla ce hit ch on a l i ft ing device. R aise, position

    hitch at proper location (Fig. 2) and support it.

    (2 ) L o o s e l y i n s t a l l n u t s t h a t a t t a c h t o w i n g t u be t o

    vehicle fra me sills (Fig. 2).

    (3) P o si t ion p la t e b r a ck et a n d i n st a l l a t t a ch i n gbolts through vehicle rear crossmember (Fig. 2).

    (4) Tighten a ll a tt a ching bolts/nut s.

    (5) Remove support and, i f removed, attach trai ler

    wire harness connector to hitch (Fig. 2).

    (13) Disconnect bulkhead connector at left side of

    d a s h p a n e l.

    (14) Disconnect cluster wiring at lower left side of

    instrument panel .

    (15) Remove right side kick panel access door. Dis-

    connect wiring at kick pa nel .

    (16) Pull back and lower instrument panel . Discon-

    nect A/C va cuum lines a nd a nt enna .

    (17) Remove Instrument P an el .

    For component disassembly refer to related group.

    To inst a ll r everse removal procedure.

    FRONT BUCKET SEATS

    REMOVAL

    B u c k et s ea t p la t f o r m s a r e a t t a c h ed t o f l oor p a n e l

    with 4 bolts (Fig. 3). The trim covers are attached to

    platform with 3 screws.

    (1) Remove 4 bolts reta ining seat .

    (2) For power seat s, disconnect wire ha rness con-

    nector (Fig. 4)

    (3) Remove seat from floor panel.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position seat on floor panel.

    (2) I n s t a l l a n d t i gh t en s ea t r et a i n i ng b ol t s t o 25

    Nm (18 ft-lbs) torque (Fig. 3).

    (3) For power seats, connect wire harness connector

    (Fig. 4).

    BUCKET SEAT CUSHION AND COVER

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove the seat from vehicle (Fig. 3). If neces-

    sary, refer to removal procedure.

    (2) Remove 3 screws retaining seat trim cover (Fig.

    3).

    (4) For power seats, remove control housing from

    seat cushion.

    (5) Remove retaining screws and seat cushion from

    s ea t f r a m e .

    (6) Remove seat cushion cover retaining screws and

    w i r e r od s f r om cu s h ion cov er. R e mov e cov er f r om

    cushion frame.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) I n s t a l l s ea t cu s h ion cov er on cu s h ion f r a m e .

    I n st a l l w i re r od s a n d r et a i ni ng s cr ew s . Ti gh t en

    screws t o 2 Nm (13 in-lbs) torque.

    (2) I n s t a l l cu s hi on a n d r et a i n i ng s cr ew s on s ea t

    frame.

    (3) For power seats, instal l control housing on seat

    cushion. Tighten screws to 2 Nm (13 in-lbs) torque.

    (4) Instal l rear carpet seat track cover and support

    rod and flap retainer.

    (5) I n s t a l l s ea t t r i m cov er a n d s cr ew s on t o s ea t

    platform.

    (6) Install seat in vehicle (Fig. 3). If necessary, refer

    to removal procedure.

    BUCKET SEATBACK COVER AND FRAME

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove seat from vehicle. If necessary, refer to

    removal procedure.

    (2) Remove seat cushion from frame. If necessary,

    refer to removal procedure.

    (3) If equ ipped, remove headr est. Twist knob under

    headrest and pull up and out of cylinders in seatback.

    (4) Remove headrest latch release lever bezel fromseatback.

    (5) Squeeze plastic retainers together. Deta ch lower

    flap from front of cover.

    (6) Remove cover retainer clips and remove cover

    from seatba ck.

    (7 ) Fo r p o w e r s e a t s , r e m o v e r e t a i n i n g s c r e w s a n d

    remove the seat cont rol from seat tra ck/plat form.

    (8) Remove retaining screws a nd nut s. Remove seat

    fra me from seat tr ack/plat form.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) P osition seat frame on seat tra ck/platform. In-

    s t a l l r e t a i n i n g s cr e w s a n d n u t s .

    (2) Fo r p ow e r s ea t s , p os i t ion s ea t con t r o l o n s ea t

    t r a c k /p la t f or m . I n s t a l l r e t a i n i n g s cr e w s . Ti g h t en

    screws securely.

    (3) P o si t i on cov er on s ea t ba c k. I n s t a l l cov er r e -

    tainer clips.

    (4) Attach cover bottom elastic band or attach Vel-

    cro flap to front of cover.

    (5) Instal l seatback insert .

    (6) Insta l l headrest latch release lever bezel .

    (7 ) I n s t a l l h e a d r e s t by p u s h i n g i t d o w n i n t o s e a t -

    back cylinders.

    (8) Instal l cushion on frame. If necessary, refer to

    installation procedure.

    (9) Instal l seat in the vehicle. If necessary, refer to

    the insta l lation procedure.

    (10) For power seats, test sea t operation.

    BUCKET SEAT PLATFORM

    REPLACEMENT

    Bucket seat platforms are not repairable. If the seat

    p l a t f o r m i s d a m a g e d , r e p l a c e p l a t f o r m a s a u n i t . R e -

    fer to Group 8Electrical for additional service infor-

    mation.

    REAR SEAT CUSHION

    REMOVAL

    (1) D i s en g a g e s e a t cu s h ion a t r e a r by p u ll in g u p -

    w a r d o n r e l ea s e s t r a p .

    (2) Tilt seat cushion forward.

    (3) Disengage lower seat cushion hinge by pull ingupward and out. Remove cushion from vehicle.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Position seat cushion in vehicle.

    (2) Insert hinge into lower pivot.

    (3) Push downward to engage hinge into pivot.

    (4) Lock seat cushion down by pressing firmly on

    center of cushion unti l la tch enga ges.

    REAR SEAT CUSHION COVER

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove seat cushion from vehicle. If necessary,

    refer to removal procedure.

    (2) U s i n g a t r i m t o ol , d i s en g a g e s ea t cov er r e t a i n -

    ers around edge of seat bottom.

    (3) R em ov e cov er s id e, f r on t a n d r ea r r et a i n i ng

    clips from wire retainers with an appropriate removal

    tool.

    (4) Remove seat cover from cushion.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Place replacement cover on cushion.

    (2) C o m pr e ss cov er a n d a t t a c h r e t a i n i n g c l ip s t o

    f r on t a n d r e a r w i r e r et a i n er s .

    (3) Insta l l serrated reta iners at ends of cover.(4) Instal l seat cushion in vehicle. If necessary, re-

    fer to installation procedure.

    REAR SEATBACK

    REMOVAL

    Install 2 side support bolts (Fig. 5).

    (4) Instal l lower seat cushion. Refer to instal lation

    procedure.

    REAR SEATBACK COVER

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove seatback from vehicle. If necessary, re-

    fer to removal procedure.

    (2) Remove seat back lat ch release ha ndle and bezel

    from seatba ck.

    (3) D isenga ge cover zipper and J -ra i l r etainer. Re-

    move cover from seatback pad.

    INSTALLATION

    (1) Install replacement cover on seatback.

    (2) Atta ch cover J -ra il reta iner clip to fra me/pan eledge and engage cover zipper.

    (3) I n s t a l l s e a t l a t c h r e l ea s e bez el a n d h a n d l e o n

    cover and pad.

    (4) Instal l seatback in the vehicle. If necessary, re-

    fer t o insta l lation procedure.

    INTERIOR TRIM PANELS AND SCUFF PLATES

    SERVICE INFORMATION

    CAUTION: Do not attempt to remove trim

    panels/moldings without first removing overlapping

    adjacent panels.

    To a v oi d d a m a g i n g p a n e l s , v e r if y t h a t a l l s cr e w s

    and cl ips are removed before attempting to remove a

    trim panel/molding. Trim panels are somewha t flex-

    ible but can be dama ged i f ha ndled improperly.

    LOWER B-PILLAR TRIM PANEL

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove retaining screws along bottom edge of

    trim panel (Fig. 6).

    pan el (Fig. 7).

    (3) R e m ov e u p pe r f r on t s ea t bel t m ou n t i n g p iv ot(Fig. 8).

    (4) Deta ch and remove upper B -pillar trim panel .

    (Fig. 8).

    (6) Remove 2 mounting screws located behind up-

    per B -pillar trim.

    (7) Remove trim panel.

    For installation, reverse removal procedure.

    WINDSHIELD SIDE MOLDING

    REMOVAL

    (11) If necessary, remove spa re t ire (Fig. 14) a nd

    tire stand-offs from left quarter trim panel (Fig. 15).

    REMOVAL

    (1) Remove the 2 Torx reta ining screws (Fig. 18).

    (2) Remove a ssist ha ndle from roof pa nel .

    INSTALLATION

    (1) P os it i on h a n d l e o n t h e r oof p a n el a n d i n st a l l

    reta ining screws (Fig. 18). Tighten r eta ining screws t o

    3 Nm (22 in-lbs) torque.

    FRONT SHOULDER BELT/BUCKLE

    REMOVAL

    (1 ) Sl i d e f r o n t s e a t s a l l t h e w a y f o r w a r d f o r a c c e s s

    to buckle anchor bolt.

    (2) Disconnect buckle wire harness connector.(3) Remove anchor bolt cover.

    (4) Remove buckle a nchor bolt w ith a Torx bit (Fig.

    19).

    (5) Remove shoulder belt buckle from transmission

    tunnel.

    (6) Remove cap concealing shoulder belt upper an-

    chor bolt (Fig. 19).

    (7) U se a Torx bit t o remove upper an chor bolt (Fig.

    20).

    (8) Remove lower A to B trim panel, refer to service

    procedure. Remove shoulder belt lower retra ctor an -

    chor bolt w ith a Torx bit (Fig . 19).

    (9) Remove shoulder belt and retractor (Fig. 19).

    Tighten anchor bolts to 37 Nm (27 ft-lbs)

    REAR SHOULDER/LAP BELT/BUCKLE

    (Fig. 31).

    SHIFTER COVER

    REMOVAL

    (1) Pull transmission shift lever handle straight up
