Significant Nr. of injuries from contact foul play?

    Differences in anatomical locations:

    - ankle injuries prevail in 9/10 vs. knees in 11/12-

    - similar trend in 14-16 years players (Peterson et al., AMJSM, 2000 )

    - type of injuries sprain injuries increase in older group

    - specific problems knee Osgood-Schlatter diseases , Achilles tendinopathy

    traction tendinopathy in 11/12 group,

Thigh/groin/hip injuries- relatively stable and comparable (8-11% of injuries) lower rate than in 14-16 years (10-26%, Peterson et al., AMJSM, 2000 )

Fractures: 14% and 10% in both groups- similar to group of 14-16 group (12% - Chomiak et al. AMJSM, 2000)

Relatively high incidence of upper extremity and head/face falls on grass

Swiss study similar Nr of players and results, only more injuries in youngest players (7/8)
