Responsibilities of Role-players

Page 2: Csc roles & responsibility

We have completed 17 years of CSC

Yet we are discussing roles & responsibilities

of different role-players!

Why we need to discuss these issues today?!

Is there anything new??

Is there any problem???

Or, any problem in understanding CSC …

Page 3: Csc roles & responsibility

All these questions are relevant

We have problems in understanding, because –

we still get models – though less in number

we still make judgment on the basis of skillful presentations

we still believe a CSC project is presentations of some statistics based

on survey, etc, etc.

Page 4: Csc roles & responsibility

How many of us know who are the

organisers and supporters at district, state

& national level?

We still have confusions between NCSTC

& NCSTC Network

This is because we have not understood

the system and structure, in true sense

Page 5: Csc roles & responsibility

Roles were already there but no defined

responsibilities, till recently

Some Roles are old, some are new with

defined responsibilities – now

These new roles and responsibilities are

to facilitate CSC and to improve quality

and to increase quantity

Page 6: Csc roles & responsibility

Role-players are there to play the

roles

Now this is the time to understand

the responsibilities and to act

accordingly

Responsibilities

State Coordinator

State Coordinating Agency engage a State Coordinator, preferably, in consultation with

other Network members in the state

A State Organising Committee is formed involving all stakeholders – Network member organisations, Concerned Govt. Agencies,

local academic institutions, science activists, etc.

Page 11: Csc roles & responsibility

Also to form a State Academic Committee

and to engage one State Academic

Coordinator

State Academic Coordinator must be a

learned scientific person with exposure to

CSC activities, knowledge and experience

on the theme and capability to orient

resource persons and evaluators

Page 12: Csc roles & responsibility

Roles – State Coordinators and

State Academic CoordinatorsBoth are integral part of State Organising Committee but

both have defined roles and responsibilities

State Academic Coordinator is the Convenor of the State Academic Committee and this Committee is responsible

for all the academic decisions of CSC in its state, of course with the knowledge of the State Coordinator

Both the Coordinators must act in close coordination. They should supplement each other.

Selection of Evaluators

- important role for SAC/DAC

It must be done in utmost sincerity. Otherwise all the efforts by the child scientists become fruitless.

An evaluator should be a respectable person with the understanding of child’s state of mind and level of education

An Evaluator should be a Post Graduate in science, an Engineer, a Medical Professional, a Science Educator, a Science

Communicator and a Ex-child scientists, who have represented state with minimum of graduation in scienceat present

The Academic Coordinator should have his/her own conviction that the selected evaluator understands method of science

It is advisable that SAC/DAC maintain a panel of evaluators in state and district, some of which may be changed based on the

theme and performance

Page 17: Csc roles & responsibility

Orientation of evaluators

-Another role for SAC/DAC

There must be at least one day-long

orientation of evaluators

Newly nominated evaluators should be

exposed to some presentations by child

scientists

Handbook for evaluators must be strictly

followed

Page 18: Csc roles & responsibility

Who should be the RPs?

Resource Persons selected at District for the state level RP training should have knowledge

on the theme

They should be good communicator/trainer because they have to train RPs/guides at

District Level

Similarly RPs send by State Academic Coordinator to the National Orientation should

have ability to independently train RPs at State.

Page 19: Csc roles & responsibility

State & District Coordinators

Your role is to enhance the reach

How many schools in a district are being covered?

What is the networking with different groups of school?

Reaching out to non-formal, underprevileged

Arranging necessary resources

Facilitating academic activities

Proper coordination with govt. and non-govt agencies at district and state

Organisation of District/State level CSCs in befitting manner

Page 20: Csc roles & responsibility

State/District Coordinators are the main contact points and they are solely responsible for quantitative success of CSC. We are in 17th years, yet our reach is not that satisfactory

State/District Academic Coordinators are responsible for identifying innovative minds, guiding them and facilitating their qualitative uplift. We have seen some kind of stagnation in qualitative uplift in last few years. Therefore we are now having dedicated committee and coordinator for Academic aspects
